I think Herm will bring in NFL guys to sell that 'NFL Prep' idea. Can't imagine Napier bolting was a part of the original plan though...

Just grasping at straws. Herm’s Been in place for the snap of a finger and this vaunted new design of program is crumbling already.

LOL... got an offer for the head coach job at Northern Iowa... we’ll see if Ray matches my offer!! [emoji106]

You are as good as gone. Herm will encourage you to take the job like he did with Napier.

I was ok with the hiring as I heard the reasoning. Now I am more skittish about it. Something tells me Napier was either not given any reassurance he was a successor in waiting or he thinks taking the Louisiana job is better for him

The Anderson design had a chance of blowing up and making the program look bad.

The program has blown up and is now a laughing stock. Articles on front page of ESPN are ugly.

Ray Anderson will be gone as soon as all of this goes badly. ASU fans will rejoice at his departure. Baseball and football are down. Basketball is thriving.

Ray said his plan was to keep CTG's coordinators going forward and both have now jumped ship. Ray's plan is falling apart right in front of our eyes.

Herm hasn't coached in college for nearly 3 decades...or at all in nearly 10 years.

Good luck with this mess, Ray.

Go Devils !! (But not a fan of the changes)

I think one of the main reasons Ray Anderson had his way with the football program is because of his involvement in updating the ASU athletic facilities especially concerning the renovation of Sun Devil Stadium. He has his hands all over things, mostly in a good way, however I think he needed someone to check his authority in the football coaching hire.

According to AZ Central, Anderson encouraged Napier to take the HC job. I can see why though, you can't stand in the way of a promotion. If Napier was going to be the OC then yeah fight for him, but this does make Anderson look foolish saying the coaching staff would remain intact and now both his coordinators are gone and Herm's first choice for DC job used him to get a pay raise. They promoted Likens but maybe Herm should look to hire some local powerhouse HS coaches to his staff to re-establish pipe lines and they wouldn't cost much in terms of salary.

Man I think you guys are being way too dramatic... it's cheap and it's very simple to bash Anderson over what has transpired with the football team.
At the end of last season, many who are now claiming their allegiance to CTG or that it would've been "better" to keep him rather than pay the $12 million to let him go, were all screaming to fire his ass then...
Ray is the Athletic Director and aside from what has gone down with the football program (which I don't believe is nearly as catastrophic as so many make it out to be), what is there to bitch about?? If you bring up the baseball program - what the hell to Ray inherit?? C'mon man... at least try to be honest.

With regard to the football program - it is WAY too early to assess the events that have unfolded. If ASU fails to land an impressive recruitment class... and/or, if the team fails next season... then sure, all bets are off and Ray should absolutely be torched. But at this point? Don't be like a lazy-ass Gambo and others who literally go into full-blown meltdown mode at the very first sniff of smoke... There is no fire yet. None. Let the recruitment process unfold. Let's see who Herm brings in as the DC and other coaches... and let's see what transpires on the field next season - a season that, based upon the schedule will certainly be a massive challenge from start to finish!

What I'm saying, and perhaps others as well, when ASU fired Todd Graham and paid his buyout, fans rightfully expected an improvement in the football program. I don't think firing Graham without a better replacement is the right answer. I'm being honest. If I didn't care about ASU, I wouldn't be critical.

Fine... and what I'm saying is that it's dishonest to claim that the replacement is worse than what was there, when the replacement hasn't even completing a recruiting cycle or coached a single game...

I didn't say that.

What I said is you don't fire a head coach and pay a $12 million buyout without a significant chance of improving the football program. It's not looking that way right now.

Obviously I'm hoping for the best.

Your statements certainly suggest that you believe the team has taken steps backward... perhaps catastrophically so... Nonetheless, IMHO, Anderson has done enough to have earned my trust. And until proven otherwise, I will trust that he has made a wise choice with Herm and that the program will be improved... both in the short-term and for many years to come.
Of course, the results will be the ultimate determining factor. All of the hand-wringing at this point is lazy, useless & pointless bickering... Seriously, let it all play out before you toss knives in Ray's back.

Keeping good offensive and defensive coordinators will be a problem for the Sun Devils when better opportunities arise. Perhaps ASU will look to hire older coordinators in the future who are not as likely to leave.
