Why is everyone afraid of Atlanta?

I keep reading how Leinart is going to get killed in Atlanta. When did Atlanta become this unbeatable force on defense. I bet 95% of the people on here can't name 5 defensive starters without looking it up. Abraham has been hurt. Hartwell has been hurt. Hall got banged up last night. They are good on defense but the Saints put 23 points on them with special team help but, the other thing is they are absolutely putrid on offense. They have no passing game and if you keep Vick from beating you with his legs then they can't score. They have a 68 year old FG kicker that requires them getting inside the 10 to be in FG range. Their defense is helped out by their ball control ability. If the Cards stop the run, something they've been good at this year, i can easily see a victory this week. I think it's a perfect time for Leinart to start. The offense probably won't have to put 25-30 points up to win. Heck, the Cards almost went in their and won with McCown at qb two years ago. Leinart can go in there and play mediocre and get 17 points on the board and the Cards come away with a 17-7 victory.

I agree. I think Pendy actually set the blueprint a couple of years ago for containing Vick (sans one long run he did nothing). We'll need solid play (patient play) from the OLBs to play conatainment so he's forced to hand it off inside. I'd rather deal with Dunn up the middle than Vick on the edge.

But their defense is pretty good; not great, but good.

I just wish they'd won last night so they don't come out PO'd.

They will just as depressed as we will. I think this game with Matt will be close. If we are going to win on the road this year. It needs to start Sunday against a team that is less talented than us, at least on paper.

First of all, I don't buy the assumption that Leinart will start.

Second, Atlanta has 1½ less days to prepare for us.

Third, NO was able to run between the tackles vs. Atlanta.

Four, last time I looked, each team gets to put 11 players on the field at any given point in time. Vick nothwithstanding, I'll match up our 11 with their 11 in athletic ability anytime.

The only thing holding us back right now is what we collectively have "between the ears." Assuming we continue to play hard, our stiffest challenge will be to focus more and cut down on dumb executional mistakes (especially penalties, missed assignments and turnovers). (This is not an impossible challenge/it's just that we haven't knuckled down and cleaned these things up so far).

Chances are we will lose but it's not like the Falcons are some great team. The two teams they beat are a combined 1-5. This should be a much easier game than going into Seattle and the Cards at least played with them, even outplayed them, the last 3 quarters. This game can go either way.

I think we match up pretty well against them. First off they're one of the few teams, (Titans, Raiders) that aren't equipped to pick on our lousy CB's because their WR's aren't great and their QB is a scatter arm. Yes they have a great run game and we're going to have to really do a good job on that, but they're not the kind of offense that figures to exploit our bad coverage which is a godsend.

Defensively they're better than they showed last night for sure, but with our offensive talent if we don't turn the ball over and kill ourselves with penalties, we should put up points.

I guess the big concern for Matt could be crowd noise in his first start leading to a lot of problems but hopefully all those big games he played in while at USC will help in that regard.

Nobody is expecting Matt to go 25-30 375 yards and 5 TD's or something the point is if he simply takes care of the ball, hits the safety valve when the protection breaks down, we'll be better off than we were Sunday with Warner.

We need our qb to protect the ball. One of my biggest disappointments in Warner is that an experience QB should be capable of reading his progressions and know through his internal clock when to get rid of the ball. In fact most QB's can come to the line and already rule out their primary receiver. Too often Warner looks, looks, tries to move , looks some more and then something bad happens. Hell ,even when he is cleanly flushed out of the pocket and buys a little time he STILL gets hammered. This should NEVER happen.

those are just a few starters. they are all pretty good. i am not worried about their defense. i am more worried about their running game. having a good running game takes time off the clock and in turn makes their defenes a whole lot better. Vick, Dunn, and Norwood are all capable of taking it to the house at any given play. so far the cardinals have been doing decent againist the run. they are going to have to play discpline in order to beat the falcons. it going to be a tough game to win. falcons are a very good team.

the cardinals offense is going to have to get james the ball more and use more playaction in order to move the ball and keep warner upright. as everyone here knows they need to get the tightend more involed. defences are keying on boldin and fitzgerald more and more. it is possible to sneak the te up the seam for a big play. some things obviously need to change in order for this offense to live up to expectation.

You make a good statment with showing these guys we must look for. Our defense next week is to hold them from running. We have done a pretty good job thus far in that area. You also make a good argument for putting in Lienart. We need a guy that will dump off quickly and spot the TE and RB out of the formation. IMO if Lienart starts and we control the clock with Edge we can win this game. I'm hyped.

Exactly, the Cards are going into a hostile environment to play a team that was just embarassed on MNF after looking very good the two weeks before.

Not exactly the best combination for a visiting team thinking about starting a rookie QB.

Two problems here.

You are happily accepting 10 points in 3 quarters with this offense.

And you apply the 3 quarter rule to seattle but not to San Fran. We only had 1 good quater there. That equals to 2 bad games by Warner using your phiosophy.

one was 53 yards - hardly reliable and another was 51 - hardly reliable - AND can't we say that Brown - another reliable kicker - also missed a field goal?

bottom line - through 46 minutes of football, we were losing 21-3. We scored a cheese TD - yeah.

we gave up 150 yards on the ground and had 250 yards of total offense - we were dominated. You can't just ignore an entire quarter.
