Seriously. Why start him?? Its like 4 on 5 when he's in the game. He doesn't rebound, doesn't score and doesn't defend. Frye or Jones should start cause I don't even think its possible for them to do worse than Collins. Sure Frye is scared to post up even on smaller players but at least he can rebound and sometimes brings an offensive presence. At least they can't double off him cause of his 3pt shooting.

If they wanna keep Frye with the bench to keep the chemistry within the bench, at least they can start Jones. Jones looked good in garbage time against weaker competition but he can't be any worse than Collins. I have read stats everywhere that show the Suns do a lot worse when Collins is in the game as opposed to sitting on the bench!

We are very limited on offense when he is the game and it takes a lot of our scoring away. His defense is just as bad or worse than his offense. And Nash is a better rebounder than him so it tells you how good he is in that phase of the game.

Can anyone give me any kind of legitmate answer to why we continue to start Collins? And no don't start with the veteran crap.

I've given this a lot of thought and all I can come up with is that he knows the offense and the defense and his presence is less of a disruption than it would be with Jones. I don't know if I buy this but it's all I can come up with. Collins fails the eye test in every way and we know Gentry isn't blind so unless the big guy is holding some incriminating photos I figure it must be something along these lines.

So.... you thought this thread was so nice you created it twice???

lol :p

Gentry has spoken about this. He said that he doesn't want to start Channing Frye because he doesn't want him in early foul trouble so all he wants from Collins is to start, play about 8-10 mins and play defense.

Just giving you the coaches explanation. :D

Why is it Collins and not Jones? You got me there I have no idea.

Come on. This is as big a no-brainer as you can get. One, Frye is major off the bench. Two, he's been coming off the bench for half the season already. Three, Amare is used to a bruiser type of guy starting that helps defend the bigger guys but at the same time allows him to do what he has to do. Channing effectively takes away the high post from Amare from the get-go because his defender will be closer to the perimeter. And as we all know, Amare likes to start his moves a little bit further from the basket. Lopez/Collins hanging out on the weak side gives him more freedom.

I think we all know why Channing doesn't play every minute of the game. The real question is not "why not Channing" it's "why Collins". From what I've seen a used broomstick could do most of the things Collins does.

Because he is a veteran body that can push around Timmy for 10 min. It is why he is on the team so coach lets him try and do his job.

Channing is too valuable off the bench and he plays most of the minutes anyway.

You really want to start Jones or Lou against Duncan? The only way we see Jones is if we have major foul trouble.

This is a war of attrition. It's now how you start it but how you finish it. Do you think Frye would have any legs left to hit those huge 3s if he were to take on TD at his highest energy level? Let Collins bang him and wear him even so slightly out. Also, seeing how the opponents are operating while we have our worst lineup with Collins in it makes it easy for the coach to adjust game plan going forward. It's chess game, man. It has worked well for the team so far despite the pawn labeled Collins hasn't looked fancy himself. It ain't broke yet.

Collins is -- by far - the best screener on the team. When he sets a screen or pick, it gets really set.

The Suns have been successful starting Collins. Why mess with a winning rotation. Frye has been very successful coming off the bench. I think this is why Gentry started Collins after the Lopez injury... to keep a similar rotation.

And, if a legitimate Center (Collins or Jones) were not starting, that's 12 more minutes that Amar'e would be playing Center.

But I've wanted to see Jones given the chance since he got here.
