Left for???

Still looking. Unemployment sucks. Got a few really good options though. Have some great relationships with many of the vendors I used to talk to.

Was driving all over North-Central and Northeastern Arizona for work this week...

For the vast majority of my day my work phone (Verizon) had no signal. My personal cell (Tmobile) had coverage the entire time...

Just sayin'. :)

My contract with Verizon is up. My wife's is up soon. Leaving Verizon and their overpriced wireless service as soon as I can. I don't really have any problems with Verizon other than pricing.

So Verizon is changing their billing plans and I am confused. Someone help a brutha out here. I keep doing the math and my bill is going to decrease substantially with this new plan. I cannot believe Verizon is going to charge me less. We currently have 2 smart phones, 1400 minutes, unlimited texts, and pay $30 each for our data plans. I get a employer discount so my monthly bill is $183.74. If I understand this new plan correctly we would pay the $40 each for our 2 smartphones and I would get the 2GB data for $60. So my new total without whatever taxes and fees without including my employer discount yet is $140? Am I missing something?

Under Verizon's new plan, which it calls the "Share Everything Plan," all voice minutes and text messaging will be unlimited. Customers will pay a set access fee based on the type of device they use and can have multiple devices attached to the same account.

The access fee will be $40 for each smartphone, $30 for each basic wireless phone, $20 per laptop or PC-connecting USB device and $10 per tablet.

The second component of the new plan covers data usage shared between all of the account's network-connected devices.

The minimum monthly fee for data usage will be $50 for 1 Gigabyte, followed by $60 for 2 GB, $70 for 4 GB, $80 for 6 GB, $90 for 8 GB, and at the high end, $100 for 10 GB.

So a customer with a smartphone, a basic phone and a tablet would pay $80 per month for unlimited voice minutes and text messaging on those devices, plus an additional $70 for 4 GB of monthly data access shared between all devices, totaling $150 a month.

Verizon said the average customer data usage per smartphone is between 1 GB and 2 GB per month.

Existing customers will have the option to keep their current usage plans, but the new system will apply to all new customers, the company said Tuesday.

kps... I did a little checking on this today at the Verizon store because I bought a new Droid... I've been using a 3 year old Blackberry that I finally dropped one too many times. I'm pretty much a neophyte at this sort of thing so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I opted to stay with my original plan as it's almost the same as yours. 2 smartphones and a basic phone with unlimited text and nationwide calling, our bill is slightly higher than yours, about $ 195 which may be due to MM fees or something I can't think of right now.

I used this monthly usage calculator on the Verizon website to figure how much data I would use because that is where the real fees will increase if you go over. Email, text, web browsing don't affect usage very much at all (unless you leave a web page running in background that refreshes itself automatically like ESPN.. etc.) Where the huge increase in data comes from is live streaming of HD video, music streaming... that sort of thing. That calculator will show you that if you stream...say 15 min of video a day, you'll go way over your 2 G in no time at all. Also if you forget to turn your navigator off it's running all the time and more usage goes down the tubes. Add in streaming video from your phone to your computer or flat screen, add in your laptop, I pad or Kindle or stream an NFL game and then see where your bill goes.

My office mgr got a new I phone for Christmas and as we all are with new toys, she messed with SIRI a lot and she blew over the 2G and got a nasty surprise on her bill. My wife and I are older and we don't use all this fancy stuff but I was considering going to 5G plan just to be safe, but then I remembered I have unlimited for $30 so now what the hell if I watch netflix or a Cards game on my phone, or use my laptop where there is no wifi connection.... the way I understand it I will probably be better off where I am.

Here's the chart I used...Make sure you push the tab for 3G -4G smart phones just scroll down to smartphones and click it on 15 min of streaming HD video a day and thats shoots you up over 5 G

Someone who knows alot more that me about this could probably elaborate much more concisely

Hope this helps.... confused,, I am. after trying to find answers on line I broke down and went to a store that typically has a 1/2 hr wait. When I got the salesperson who was very nice and very knowledgeable, but he couldn't answer squat about the primary concerns I had...ie... will this Droid synch easliy with my microsoft Outlook on my work laptop.... he had no clue. I made a quick call to a techie friend and he said he would set if up for me so not to worry. That took care of that problem... the next one was they didn't know how to set up my email because its through a private server... turns out all I need was to put in pop.fatcow.com for incoming mail and smtp.fatcow.com, put my password in and awaaaaay she went. The employees looked at me with their mouths open... for crying out loud. A 65 year old man showing these punks:) how to do it....yea for me

good luck, brah

btw, I've had my new Droid about 6 hours and I gotta lota learning to do.

I get about an 8% discount through my employer which is probably where the difference is coming from.

Thanks for the info. I should be OK with 2GB data plan but if my bill goes down, like it appears it may, I will probalby spend a little extra to get the next data tier to avoid any overage charges. We really don't use much data and if I do I am at work or at home and connected to the wifi so I am not on Verizons data service.

Which Droid did you get?

You have to pay an access fee of $40 PER PHONE and a data plan?

Unreal.

A 1GB shared plan with two phones would costs $130 a month in just data. :biglaugh:

Guess I'm not upgrading my phone after all.

? you lost me there. Wouldn't you be paying $130 a month total for unlimited minutes, texts, and 1GB shared data?

:shrug:i just looked on Sprint and I don't see it. For the Family Unlimited plan the website says it starts at $209.98 for 2 smartphones. I understand that is apparently unlimited minutes, texts, and data but...thats $210

Yeah I agree but who are you with that you have equal or better plan for less?
dcr doesn't have a smartphone, and won't pay for data. He considered getting one when he heard that we could share our data, but likely not at this price, even though it will be cheaper in the end for us.

He kinda cracks me up a little; our current bill is $250/month. I get a $75 reimbursement from my employer, we get a 20% discount from dcr's work, and both of my older daughters pay us $60/month for their phones. Then we have dcr's phone & the one phone the 3 younger kids share. It would be cheaper, if I did the math right, for us to share 4gb on 4 phones, but he's bein' stubborn :)

The $250 is after the 20% discount, btw.

Resistance is futile, DCR.

I held off for a while, but I have to say, I use that thing constantly and it is extremely useful in ways I never imagined.

I have Sprint. Have 2 smartphones. My plan is unlimited everything accept minutes which I have 1500 IIRC. But you only burn minutes if you call a landline phone. All calls to ALL cells all carriers are not included. You still don't burn minutes on nights and weekends either. With those stipulations I have never come anywhere near close enough to burning 1500 minutes.

Total bill every month for both lines and phones unlimited text data etc... 138.00 thats after taxes and all.

That is around what we have for 3 smart phones. We get unlimited text and data and never go over minutes....EVER. Most people we call are cell to cell so as you stated we never go over either.

Thats pretty similar to my plan with Verizon now except the way your minutes are used. Well that and the cost. I saw that plan or similar plan and was trying to figure out what the deal was. Good to know. Thanks

Yeah I don't really call anyone on a land line anymore. Do toll free #'s count as landlines and burn minutes?
