You must be getting paid by Verizon to sing their praises across bulletin boards, LoL.

Obviously some people are unhappy with them, some are not.

The addage is....

If you like your carrier you tell no one. If you are unhappy, you tell 10 people.

Obviously from ground level people are always going to have issues. You can't control the mob. What you can do is make your overall experience better from the 3000 foot view.

And VZW has clearly done that. In all markets, from all networks, to customer service, to retail, to handsets. And independent testing from outside companies (JD Power, Telephia, Consumer Reports, etc.) proves it to be 100% fact.

Verizon choose to go broad and shallow, so even in areas that coverage is listed, you will still get dropped calls or busy signals when trying to dial, due to inadequate cell availability.
This is completely false. CDMA has twice the tower capacity of GSM. The reason you have less towers in an area is due ONLY to this fact.

In some rare cases, GSM signal will have better in building coverage based solely on the higher Mhz it operates at. Higher the Mhz, the more penetration it can get. And is another reason it costs so damn much and takes so damn long for AT&T to upgrade the network.

Why does cell service work in one place than another? I don't know.... Will it rain today? Same answer. It's still wireless.

Again though... 3000 foot view people.

AT&T offers cheaper plans. Verizon is the Cadillac while AT&T is the Honda. Which cars do you see more of on the road?

Not true... The rate plan structure is almost completely identical. Even prepaid is almost the same.

Also, Verizon Wireless has more total customers..

Anytime...... you need to give it up on your pimping out of your employer verizon. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion and not everyone shares the same deep love and passion for verizon that you evidently have, although something tells me this also has to do with the name on your paycheck

I like my paycheck... yes.

Still.... I could care less about my opinions. I am only stating the raw unedited details. Seriously... I have only given you the opinions of outsiders, and the ratings of third-parties that are completely unbiased. Everyone else seems to want to share their feelings and emotions.

If you logically look, from the outside. You cannot say that vzw isn't the better choice. You just cant. If you take your personal feelings into account, THAT is where you begin to make fool hearty choices.

I worked for AT&T for 7 years. VZW for 2. I have a bit of knowledge in this area. From all sides of the equation.

I've had all the carriers, Sprint, ATT, when they were cingular and a couple others, Verizon is the best as long as you work like crazy to get your bill down.

It works literally everywhere, no roaming, almost never lose a call, but their GPS app is bad for letting you down when you need it most, I have a Garmin now though.

Nextel was the worst, literally only interstate coverage, once you exited it was like you were on Mars.

J.D. Power and Associates just ranked VZW highest in call quality in the Northeast (New York and New England) and Mid-Atlantic (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, DC, and Virginia) for the 10th consecutive reporting period. And it's an even longer run in the West & Midwest.

o First Place in Download Speed - Verizon Wireless - Wired.com (July 10, 2009) posted the results of an interactive 3G speed survey conducted in May that attracted 12,000 valid, usable responses. Verizon Wireless came in first place with an average download speed of 1,940 Kbps. According to the article, “In dead last was AT&T with an average of 901 Kbps.”
o “Fast And Consistent” 3G Service - PCWorld.com (June 28, 2009) tested the major 3G services across the United States and reported Verizon Wireless had the fastest download speeds in seven of the 13 test markets, more than any other carrier. In terms of reliability, VZW beat AT&T in 12 of the 13 markets and tied with them in the remaining one.

I apologize to all you iPhone homers... This isn't me.... It's INDEPENDENT SOURCES. ;)

Some of us actually can. Some of us have multiple services and historical experiences with these companies. I can honestly say that Verizon has had some of the worst customer service I have EVER experienced with a carrier. The only reason I still have them is because my company has a contract with them.

Obviously, my personal cell phone choice is different and the reason why I have a different carrier. You can spout all you want about coverage, net access blah blah blah. However, it's not that cut and dry.

Cell phones are about personal choices, features you like on phones, designs of the phones and ultimately your EXPERIENCE with that carrier. When you add those things to the equation Verizon is not the clear cut choice. That's a fact.

Here is another fact, in the history of consumer electronics, the superior product doesn't always win out. Consumer electronics has never been about one feature (coverage area for example or data rates) and has always been about personal choice, price and and the overall package (design, feature set, color, customer experience etc...). All your pimping of Verizon won't change that nor should it.

Nice post SteelDog

When verizon gets the iPhone (if they ever do). I MIGHT consider switching but up until this point I have been completely satisfied with my coverage and Internet speed and the customer service that I get with my iPhone and AT&T, plain and simple. Even if verizon were to get the iPhone I do not see myself switching to them. I have no reason to and don't see anything that's going to change in the near future that is going to change that.

Not going to change your mind... I get it. Unfortunately you failed to highlight the most important part of that statement. I just did it for you.

I understand everyone has their own personal feelings. This only proves the oldest of retail theory's correct. If you take 100 people who love their service, they will tell less people about it than the one person who had an issue.

Face it... You like your phone... It doesn't matter what company had it. VZW, AT&T, Alltel, Sprint, T-Mobile, Tracphone, Boost, whatever. If were on AT&T and it became an exclusive of VZW you would switch faster than it takes John Force to finish his races.

And to me.... That's just the craziest thing I have ever heard.

I will chime in when I get new news (In either direction) My goal is not to sway the staunchest supporters... Just help newbies or switchers make a more informed choice.

Unfortunately you failed to highlight the most important part of that statement.

And...I think you missed the most important points of what I said (which I will highlight for you). Experience ...that is not an emotional response or personal feelings. That is a historical fact. That is beyond personal feelings. That is what you experience when dealing with a certain carrier. Also, liking a feature set is not personal. It's actually logical because it is what you feel you need for your phone. So, is price of the phone or calling plan. Those are all factors that cannot be chalked up to "personal feelings". I have no loyalty per say to a carrier. Whoever gives me the best deal with the feature set I like...I will ultimately use. If I have a good experience with a carrier, of course I will consider them first. Again...that is logical...not "personal feelings". What about quality of service? If you don't have any issues now...logically why would you switch?

Those are all logical considerations that you keep chalking up to personal feelings. Honestly, your the only one here that seems to be letting his personal feeling cloud what he is saying.

Face it... You like your phone... It doesn't matter what company had it. VZW, AT&T, Alltel, Sprint, T-Mobile, Tracphone, Boost, whatever. If were on AT&T and it became an exclusive of VZW you would switch faster than it takes John Force to finish his races.

Personally I am not married to a phone model as much as the feature set. Again, not married to one particular carrier either (I take into consideration many factors as stated above). However, let's test your theory. Samsung has the Instinct with Sprint but also has "sister" Omnia for Verizon which I really like better. It's exclusive to Verizon. In addition, The IPhone is the phone I like the most out there but yet I have not switched to AT&T.

So that blows your theory out of water. If what you said was true then why have I not switched to AT&T or Verizon?

The reason is because other things come into play. Is your experience with the current carrier been good? Are you satisfied with the feature set offered with your phone compared to the model you like with the other carrier? What is the price of the phone? What is the price of the plan? Is your current carrier meeting all your needs? All those things are hardly emotional considerations as you state. They are factual realities that you want everyone to ignore.

And that to me is just the craziest thing I have ever heard.

Dude your trying to pimp your company....we get it and there is nothing wrong with that. Just don't expect us to throw logic out the door and jump on the Verizon bandwagon. Hopefully, you don't work in sales because a better approach to this thread would have been "Verizon Is a Great..Come See Why" or something like that. Not your shove it down everyone's throat "Period" approach coupled with illogical arguments. I think people might have been more receptive to what you were trying to "sell".

Will VZW ever offer the iPhone?

Why did Apple choose to go only with AT&T? Isn't that akin to hari-kari, killing yourself to save pride?

I think AT&T was a natural selection for Apple.

1. GSM is the international standard and AT&T is the biggest US GSM carrier. Easier to do something when you can take it farther than just the US.
2. AT&T has always been the puppet of Apple. I still remember when the Motorola ROKR launched. We had this crazy market party and launch package that included its own stand and speaker setup. Too bad it was the crappiest phone we sold.

AT&T bent over backwards for Apple, Allowing them to control all marketing, all development, and surprisingly, said YES to all of Apple's demands before one phone was produced. I remember having to work overnight shifts 3 different nights the week before the iPhone launched. They had to re-paint the stores, istall the huge iPhone displays, and then call after call after call. It was insane.

Verizon would never do something like that back then. They couldn't imagine what a phenomenon the iPhone would become.

There were rumors that back in the day (when I was AT&T) that Apple went to VZW first and they refused. I just can't buy that.

Will VZW do it now if they had a shot? I think they would. They just bought up a huge amount of open access B-Block licensing. This platform is how they plan on launching the Motorola Sholes and all the other Android phones coming out on VZW in the next quarter or two.

They also opened up the ability to bring your OWN CDMA phone to them. They allow certain customer owned phones to be activated.

So.... My guess, is that it will come sooner or later. Capitalism makes it a conclusion in my mind. Unless AT&T goes bankrupt to keep it.

And in the end.... The iPhone could be the reason VZW finally wins the war. God knows it's the only thing keeping AT&T afloat these days.

3. Sprint Nextel
Sprint Nextel is bleeding customers, and could lose as many as 4.4 million net post-paid subscribers this year.
This is a huge problem when you have large amounts of maturing debt over the next few years.
A recent Deutsche Telekom acquisition rumor offered some hope, but that appears to have faded. Facing a difficult road ahead on its own, the company better keep its lawyers on speed-dial.

I'm telling you Steel Dog..... You have a 50-50 shot of becoming a VZW customer in the next 3 years.

Then we will make you change your plan and piss you off because the plan your on wasn't a good business decision when Sprint gave it to you.

I meant the impending doom of a cdma to cdma purchase. I can't fathom that VZW wouldn't want the nextel business customer base. Even if it brought to the the crappiest customer base known to man....

Legacy Sprint Customers.

Highest past due balance ration in the industry
Highest amount of unpaid debt in the industry
Highest customer call in rate in the business
Highest churn rate in the business
Lowest High Tier price plan percentage in the business
Highest amount of customers with a credit rating requiring a deposit (back when anyone could get on for $125)

But someone has to love them..... Might as well be the company with the highest customer satisfaction ratings (3rd party rankings!!!) in the industry.

Read an article the other day, will try to find it.

Basic jist of it was while Verizon has the largest network, they have the WORST PHONE. Their phone lineup is years behind every major competitor. They have NOTHING in the pipeline to compete with the iPhone, Android, or even the new Pre.

And don't say the Storm, because that phone sucks.

Agreed, when I first started with the company I hated the lineup. In the course of 2 years though it has gotten much better.

The Pre launches in less than 2 months. They also have 2 android phones launching in the same time period. Only thing they wont have is the iPhone.

Storm 2 - Might be better  I hated the first one as well. The Tour is awesome though. Better than the Bold.

Have you seen the Touch Pro 2? It's an amazingly powerful device. It launched last week.

How about the Touch HD? I think it's called the ammagio? Now that phone is freaking AWESOME! The HD launches before Black Friday as well.

http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchhd/product-tour.html

As you can see.... The phone linup has gotten MUCH better.

Months maybe.... Generations... Not really.

It all depends on the perspective. Phones, they are on par. Smartphones they are on par.

Android... Maybe a month or 2 behind. Soon to be even steven.

Pre - 2 months behind.

Windows Mobile - Ahead of Competition. Touch Pro 2. Touch HD, Ozone.

Blackberry - Ahead. Storm does fit a niche no one else touches. And it still sells amazingly well. Tour is ahead of the competition (maybe tied with Tmobiles Javelin).

Only thing left is the iPhone. And we all know the story on that thing.

If there is one thing I wish VZW would do is attack these false impressions. The marketing department seems to be a one-trick pony to me. They charge ahead on the same lane of the same freeway at all times. It makes me crazy. lol

Co-worker here has the HTC Touch Pro (not 2) and she LOVES it. I have to get a phone through my work (Verizon) and am getting the Touch Pro as well. I'm pretty excited as I've been stuck with a POS Razr forever now.
