there is no cap or limiting of potential of someone's financial earnings nor should their be.
If that's what the market dictates let them get their money
Except it's artificial. It's driven primarily in recent years by disproportionate emphasis on the quarterback, driven primarily by Mahomes mania. Just 2 seasons ago there was 1 QB on $30m per year. Last year there were only 2. Russ Wilson and Dak on $31m per year. Next year there will be 9 over $30m and 4 over $40m. That's nut's. Were seeing full 50% rises in QB salaries over 2 years.
Russ Wilson is a great example. Coming off 2 super bowls and being one of the best in the league he signed a new deal in 2015 for $22m per year. That deal kicked in for the 2016 season when the cap was $155m, so even in year one he was only eating up 14% of the cap. His 2020 deal pays him $35m per year which was 17.6% (more this year with the reduced cap). Still comparatively good because when Wilson signed for $35m he didn't know things were going to get stupid. But why is Wilson suddenly worth 3.6% more of the cap? He's not got better, he was great then and he's great now. There aren't less QB's around, if anything there are more QB's who could start in the league now than ever.
The point is going to come where it ruins the league. It can't not. There's only so much money to go around and the time will come when other players get to a a new deal and there's nothing in the pot. It will tear locker rooms apart. Literally every time a QB signs some huge new deal it's taking money away from another player with a contract coming up. When that was a QB going from $20m to $25 mil it was no big deal, but it's not that any more.
Josh Allen is not worth $43m after 1 decent year. That absolute bananas.
He had a nice year no doubt, certainly comparatively. But then he also had a good OC and they gave him Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and drafted Gabriel Davis. It's funny how QB's perform better when they have better receivers. How long until receivers start asking for $30m+ because of that? If you're Stefon Diggs why wouldn't you say "I make your $43m quarterback look good, without me he's crap. Pay up".
