In the first underground podcast of the regular season, Ron Wolfley said that he would be disappointed if the Cards lost to the Rams. My first thought was that Wolf, (who is known for being bold and brash), was going way out on a limb here. Then I realized, that I too would be disappointed if the Cards lost to the Rams on Sunday-----but that in no way is an indicator that I believe the Cards win this game.

Without going back to listen to the podcast again, I am not sure that Wolf actually said the believed the Cards would win. I just don't recall him saying that. I did hear him say, (at the very end of the podcast), that he would be disappointed if they lost. So would I.

My point for this post is, that a person cannot always assume that because someone says one thing, that you can automatically turn that statement around, claiming that he indicated the opposite. I sure don't feel confident enough to predict a win over the Rams, but at the same time I would be disappointed with a loss to them. In this case, 'six of one', is not quite the same as 'a half dozen of the other'. I guess we can all be more careful about how we respond to one's statements.

Well, Mr Wolfley, as a wise man once said: Get used to disappointment.

i am dissapointed every time we lose.

Me too. I can't even flip to a sports channel for a couple of days after we lose. I usually start to perk up by Wednesday following a Sunday loss but by Friday I'm normally convinced we've found and solved our problems. This year I plan to beat the rush, I'm going into the season disappointed. I really should not have re-watched the Dallas and San Diego games. They were even more frightening the second time around.

Every teams fans are disappointed on Sunday if their team loses. Sometimes we will lighten bu saying they played hard or boy we were close. Sometimes blame the coach clock management if he only would have gone slant left instead of right etc

We all have high hopes that somehow all we have read and thought befor the gladiators take the field they will be much better than we thought. It's only been 1 team that won every game. Most lose 5-8 year after year. The ball somehow has to roll our way. The catch has to be made. The QB clear eyes and the defense stellar. Have fun. See it as it is a game. Now lets go out and kick some serious ass!!!!!!!!

ha...but damn, you are really hopeless this year aren't you Steve? I think we'll lose, but truth be told, I don't really know what to expect this year overall. i think the D will stink, but the O might be okay. literally, no clue what to expect from this season.

The hope went out of my sails when I focused on our O Line in the Dallas and San Diego games. I think we have a big play offense but won't have enough time to make those big plays very often. Losing Cooper is a real killer to an already suspect O Line. I'm also a little surprised at how slow our D has looked and the only way we'll stop the run is by convincing them to take advantage of us in the air. Getting Wash back will help our D considerably but with our schedule we can't afford to spot our divisional rivals a 4 game head start.

Edit: I should add, I think our D will be a huge disappointment but it will still be our strongest unit.

Yeah, losing Cooper for the year was a total kick in the nuts, between his impact this year and his development for the future.

You just pee'd in my punchbowl. :(

I do wonder sometimes if we don't brace ourselves against failure because we're so used to it. As a defense mechanism to keep ourselves sane.

We are used to the serenity part. :D

Well there is one thing positive. When you go to a Cardinal home game there is usually a 50-50 chance you'll get to witness a Cardinal victory.

The Cards are 30-18 at home 2007-2014 and have won at least half their home games every year over that stretch. Heck even the horrific 2003 team went 4-4 at home.

Oh sure, that's part of it. It's hard to survive as a Cards fan without some kind of armor. Right now, I'm seeing everything in the worst possible light and I do realize that things might not be so bleak.

Even with all of the mistakes that the offense had against the Cowboys and Chargers, I saw enough to give me some hope. In those two games our running game averaged about 6 yards per carry with the starters. That's a real impressive number.

Now leaving Levi Brown on an island against a speed rusher scares me, but I think he will be given help once the regular season starts. What really scares me is the lack of depth at TE.

I was told that last year, when I was away, we lost to the Rams at St. Louis, and our QB's were sacked NINE TIMES. Is that correct? If it is I'm SURE we'll do better this year.

For the next 17 weeks fans of 16 teams are going to be disappointed at some point unless a team goes undefeated.

How about starting off at .500 then running off four in a row at the END for a change! That'd bust some bubbles! We need to hang in there and persevere. Everyone who's still here can relate! :p

There's a difference between being upset and being surprised. We'll all be upset, but not many of us will be surprised. The unfortunate part is that if we lose--and depending on how we lose--there's going to be a feeling of "here we go again". And if we win, we're going to say it doesn't prove anything.

i think it all depend on how we lose. if we just look awful, you met get some "here we go again". but if it's a tough, hard fought game, you won't get it from me.

and if we win, I'll say it proves this team was ready to play week 1 and with a new HC and roster overhaul, I'd say that's pretty good.

I agree with the first part, especially if we play hard and disciplined. If we look awful, at least the post game press conference will be interesting for a change.

However, if we win and look dominant, I'm dousing myself in koolaid. ;)

Yup. I'll be disappointed if we lose, but I won't really be surprised. If we get blown out, or go down by 17 before losing by 3-7 (Carson Palmer Raiders-style), I'll be pretty upset that we got rid of a bunch of familiar and solid players to get the exact same results.

I may be in the minority but I think it would prove quite a bit. This is a team that almost seems put together to take advantage of our weaknesses. If we can play with these guys I think we can play with any team on our schedule. Unfortunately, I think they beat us up on both sides of the line.

Our best chance at winning probably centers around taking advantage of their youth (more than half their team has fewer than two seasons of NFL experience) and which QB gets to remain upright the longest. If we can keep Laurinaitis and Ogletree and the rest of them off of Palmer long enough to get Fitz and Floyd involved we'll be able to score some points. On the other side, Long improves their line quite a bit but Jackson was one of the best blocking RB's in the league and I'm not sure that Richardson makes up for that loss.
