Now they opt for you only doing online multiplayer or if you have multiple consoles in the same house allowing it that way. It kinda sucks. Yes, it cuts down on screen quality but at least give people the option. Heck...you hardly hear anybody complain about HALO split screen or COD split screen back in the day...people were just fine with it.

Yeah, I'm still pissed that I purchased 4 controllers and there isn't a game out that I can use them all on.

It's possible. They just didn't code it that way. This kind of pisses me off nowadays. Developers taking the easy way out with local co-op. I am sure this had more to do with the lack of lead time for a launch title. However, you could easily do local co-op.

Not possible currently. It could be available in a patch at a later date.

Me and my daughter have been playing coop alien mode on ghosts, its fun :)

Since consoles went live developers quickly forgot that video gamers have real friends and family members to play games with and tend to focus squarely on 1 person playing online. It seemed for a bit there local multiplayer started to surge a bit but it is still severely lacking in todays games.

With smartglass you could even do uno or poker or something locally but i doubt the option will come to fruition.

This is a big reason why I owned far more arcade games vs retail games as the arcade had more co-op gaming options.

No local co op on dead rising = very little interest to me. I honestly dont have a lot of time to wear a headset or coordinate gaming with a buddy to play on live and dont need random people coming into my games. Only one of my friends has an xbox anyway.

I do most of my online gaming on my PC.

The main reason I play on a console is for local gaming. Very disappointed so far in that respect.

Its been this way for a long long time IMO.

Some games will come but the ones you are most excited for coop will be 1 player!

But on the box they will go on and on about how you can play with your friends - because all of your friends are on the internet.

Some interesting news today. Sales of both consoles:

PlayStation 4 has sold 2.1 million units worldwide (123,500 units per day) in 32 countries.
Xbox One has sold more than 2 million units worldwide (111,111 units per day) in 13 countries.

If I am Microsoft, knowing I have opened in half the markets as the PS4, selling my console for $100 dollars MORE and sales are almost even!? I am pretty damn happy right now.

I'm not that surprised. Even at 60", I don't want to split my screen in half or in 4ths for multiplayer action. That was great on the N64 and Goldeneye, but it is downright miserable for the past two generations now.

If you are playing a game where you occupy the same screen and you do not have to render all of the frames individually, (New Super Mario Bros. for example) that can work.

Otherwise, I almost never want to play multiplayer unless it is online.

Hmmm...the PS4 sales number is from a press release dated December 3rd, and the Xbox One sales number are from a Microsoft announcement dated December 11th.

Wouldn't that put Sony's sales number at ~3.1 million units sold compared to 2 for Xbox?

Just saying...

Totally disagree. Halo multiplayer split screen was just fine. So, were the Rainbow six games. It can be done with high quality if they take the time.

I should have been more clear. They were talking about the initial launch time frame not total sales to date. That wouldn't make sense to compare since the PS4 has been out longer.

It's fantastic news because those numbers are in the first 15 or 18 days respectively which is a record for both companies. MS #'s are even more impressive when you consider the higher price point and launching in far fewer markets (13 compared to 32). The numbers are on par with each other.

Both companies are doing extremely well which is good for competition.

Same screen coop is good too but rarely done. Most games simply ignore local multiplayer.

And yes, halo did 4 screens just fine. COD ghosts 2 player is just fine.

Some games rather than splitting the screen one direction or another would corner two screens and leave dead zones so both players have their own 16x9 screen.

An arcade game called renegade ops had a cool feature where when close, you are on one screen but when you get seperated it would split but thew split would constantly move depending on locations. I thought it was very innovative.

Looking forward to this weekend when I start my 2 week vacation for the Holidays. Should be on a little bit when the kids are not hogging the Xbox.

Don't the Wii-U controllers have a screen in them so you can watch porn while playing?

Yes, but they also have a controller that very closely resembles the 360 controller.

Scored a $100 Amazon gift card at work. We have Prime, so Call of Duty and Need for Speed will both be here before Christmas. Best part, they were both $49, so I did not have to spend anything.
