On bringing in a vet...

If you want someone that might have a Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield type resurgence then I'd bring in Carson Wentz and see if you can tap some of that early career form.

At worse he's a better backup than tune. He's had a year in the Rams and Chiefs offenses, both of which are very good.

Wentz is cooked. But I would give Darnold or Mayfield a hard look if the Cardinals decided to move off Kyler.

Random but Trey Lance might be the worst QB all time when mediocre talents like Brock and Jimmy G are quarterbacking their teams to the NFCCG every year and he couldn’t sniff the field.
Yea, I remember having this convo with some buddies about who was the biggest bust in that class between Zach Wilson & Trey, they said Zach, but Trey had a much better supporting cast & SF spent 3 1st rounders on him. It’s definitely Trey.

He’s definitely the biggest bust in terms of value to the team, but hard to blame him personally when his body just wasn’t up to the challenge of the NFL.

I think it is telling that Purdy started 46 games in college and Jimmy G. started 45 games in college.

Kyler started only 17 games in college.
That didn't stop him from winning OROY and going to two Pro Bowls right out of the gate.

After 6 years in the NFL, that's no more relevant than his high school exploits.

I would rather see a stacked roster that Kyler is holding back than a barely league average roster with a rookie at QB. Build the roster and then aggressively go get the QB you want.
There is no reason that has to be an either or situation. Why y’all are presenting this false choice over and over again is mystifying. The Broncos JUST did this.

Because I “think” the former would be closer to a Super Bowl contender than the latter is what Chop is saying. One example being the Rams being stacked with talent in 2020, McVay felt Goff held them back, went for an upgrade in Stafford, won the SB.

Okay… but the Rams took several seasons of trades, FA and great drafting to surround Goff enough to get to a Super Bowl. There is no possible way we can do all that in one final offseason with Kyler. And if we could, we wouldn’t because we never spend that kind of money and Monti isn’t close to being the type of draft genius the Rams FO had at that point.

Hoping for that plan is has the same level of reality as hoping the Leprechaun jumps off the Lucky Charms box and leads me to a massive bowl full of gold.

Yea man, so it’s going to take us a couple seasons(hurts to say I know) to hopefully do all of that.

I know. I believe 2026 offseason is key. You can be a playoff-contender overnight. Being a super-bowl contender is another story.
Monti isn’t close to being the type of draft genius the Rams FO had at that point.
Les Snead wasn’t known as a genius until his 6th offseason.

Hopefully that plan becomes a reality. Honestly, look at all the Super Bowl representatives & their QBs the past couple of years. Quality ranging from elite to good to game-manager. Outside of the Bengals, all of those QBs landed on teams with a good bit of talent whether through draft, FA or trade.

Kyler is just a clown show at this point. Time for the circus to end. He panics, folds under pressure, and apparently can't throw the ball downfield anymore. Moving on...

This is exactly what the plan needs to be. Kyler is and will be here next year. Build this roster to the point that a rookie can step in or suddenly the light goes on for Kyler.

I mean, that's probably what Bucs fans after signing post Panthers Mayfield, and what Vikings fans said about signing Sam "I've played 7 games in 2 years with sub 60% comp rate" Darnold.

Wentz hasn't played much recently, but the one game he started for the Rams last year he beat the Darnold led Niners with a 71% comp rate, 2 passing TD's and a rushing TD.

Wentz last full season season as a started in Indi, which I think we all remember as ugly, he had 3563 yards, 27 TD's and 7 INT's, 6.9 YPA, and a 94.9 passer rating. All better than Kyler will end on this year.
