Meat to the Wolves: My Preliminary QB list for the draft

They have Eli, so that's how they don't need one. They can probably ride him another year or two w/o drafting a QB this year. The Cardinals need a QB. Litterally

Meat to the Wolves: My Preliminary QB list for the draft

I tend to agree and he's the one I'm looking at for the Cards at #15. Once Cousins lands we'll have a better idea of the affect on the draft. This has the makings of a crazy draft because there are so many quality QBs available. Will Indy trade down? If the Jets land Cousins would they trade...

Yeah, you're right. Now I need to figure which player I was looking at. Maybe it was Bucannon when playing around with cuts here https://overthecap.com/calculator/arizona-cardinals

I'm not necessarily for cutting Veldheer either, but if they need to free up some space, those are players who could be under consideration. I've seen enough with Gresham and would be fine cutting. Move on to Momah and Seals-Jones and find more TE help in FA or the draft.

Jurecki pretty confident Mathieu will be gone if number not adjusted

Right, but I was saying he's most likely to be a pre 6/1 cut. If he's pre 6/1, the money (guaranteed, bonus, prorated) is accelerated to all count towards 2018. Since he'd be off the books, there'd be $14mill added to 2019's cap space since the contract would be terminated. He has no guaranteed...

Jurecki pretty confident Mathieu will be gone if number not adjusted

The one thing missing from the pre 6/1 cut is that he'll save $14mill in 2019 being off the books. Unless the Cards are looking to land an expensive FA - which I doubt - I don't see why they'd cut him post 6/1. Take the 2018 hit and free up as much space for 2019.

    You're the Cards GM

Cutting Veldheer, Gresham, Dawson and AP would free up an additional $11mil. Getting rid of the Williams duo would save 700k. I'm not including Mathieu, since he's under contract. Oh and #31 is due a decent raise soon.

Don't forget they have the #4 pick too. They could go all hyper Browns and draft a QB at #1 and #4 :D

List of Card's UFA, RFA and EFA going into 2018

I'd be fine with keeping Momah and Seals-Jones for TE's and then searching FA or the draft for any other TE need. I'd be fine with the following: WR Jaron Brown (28) WR Brittan Golden (29) S Tyvon Branch (31) - probably too expensive OL Earl Watford (27) LB Kareem Martin (25) LS Aaron Brewer...

    You're the Cards GM

What if he bombs at the combine; then who are you drafting at #1 in this scenario? He might have the highest ceiling of the group, but that doesn't necessarily make him the clear #1. Most mocks have a combo of Darnold/Rosen/Allen at the #1. They all have their flaws and hopefully the combine...

    You're the Cards GM

That's a lot to give up when there's no clear #1 QB in the draft. I'd hate for that to become Ricky Williams pt2. On one hand Cleveland would be foolish to not take that. On the other hand Keim would be foolish to offer that, imo. But, on the other, other, other hand Keim hasn't had much success...

Jurecki pretty confident Mathieu will be gone if number not adjusted

He's already got the money ($9.3m) from the signing bonus, right? That's just counting against the Cards' cap. Every player thinks they should be guaranteed. Every owner thinks they should not be. The rules are what they are. But they were FA's, TM isn't. Slight difference. If TM decides to...

Jurecki pretty confident Mathieu will be gone if number not adjusted

A lot of us have been speculating that. He's foolish to not renegotiate. He wouldn't be losing any money, just making the contract more cap friendly for the Cards.

    QB Frenzy

Nice write up Mitch. If the Cards can't come away with a QB this off-season, one who can helm this franchise for the next 5-10 years, it would be an utter travesty, and oh so pre-UoP Cardinal-esque.

This. Though I think their cap space is closer to $100mill, but either way they could have a lot of space in 2019. Obviously, that'll change this off-season too. If I'm GM, I've got my eye at 2019. Do what you need to draft the QB you want and sign a bridge QB, then start with a clean slate for...
