    This is rating him against a hypothetical "ideal" and not the actual players he's competing with. Of the top 4 NL players in WAR so far, I can find comparable slumps for each other them. Rendon: 4/3 -4/19 (to start the season) 50 PA .191/.240/.234 Goldschmidt: 6/27 - 7/9 50 PA .186/.300/.395...

    Isn't it possible that his slumps always "seem to come at the wrong time" because he IS carrying the team, at least offensively? If they came at the "right time" that means there are other players there to pick up the slack. Baseball isn't an individual sport. Who is your MVP?

    You and 82 carried the water for Towers for a long time through a ton of stupid moves. I don't remember how you two felt about Stewart's short tenure. You can believe what you want to believe, but I think it's foolish, the baseball community thinks it's foolish, and the results of their tenures...

    You store the baseballs in it. ARI has the second highest altitude stadium in MLB. High altitude dry air makes the ball tighter and harder. Makes pitching more difficult and makes the ball travel more. Humidor makes the balls spongier, which makes this expand and easier to grip.

    I was thinking 2007. Had forgotten about our LDS blip in 2011. Speculative at best here. In those two years, the DBacks lost the trade by 3.4 WAR (2013) and 1.7 WAR (2014).

    How do you account for the years of mediocrity in between now and say, 10 years ago? It seems to just be ignored in these equations. It doesn't take long for the evaluation of these chains of trades begin to become asinine. In no way have we received 13.7 WAR back in the Justin Upton trade.

    Let's hope so, right? Goldschmidt is having quite the resurgence given recent history. I think he and Pollock (who's not doing much for the club) were the only ones I thought had enough trade value to move. I know they'll have a better chance to compete long term without that Pollock...

    I'm very glad the FO decided to not give AJ a long term contract. I was very vocal in being against it at the time and I know there was a lot of pressure from the fan base to foolishly throw money at him.
