    Hillenbrand Is A Butcher

Well, his defense is not up to Matt Williams standard to be sure. But his offense is a lot better.

    That's more like it!

Well, Brandon Webb gave up 2 runs in 6 innings, Dontrelle Willis gave up 6 runs in 2 innings. Quite a difference. Webby certainly pitched good enough to win.

    Wohack traded

Hear, hear. The term clubhouse cancer is the most overused and improperly applied baseball term around. Seems when fans don't like someone they instantly become a "clubhouse cancer" to the fan. Doesn't matter the reality of how the teammates feel about him.

    Wohack traded

Womack trade reminds me of a famous quote from Lenny Dykstra - "Great Trade! Who'd we get?"

What Is MLB Going To Do With The Expos?

Phillies get no respect. Urgh. I guess Dusty Baker must have been under the same impression since the Marlins had 3 players on the all-star team - while the Phillies, D-Backs, and Astros, the next three teams in the standing had one.

Joe Jr, GM of the year?

Well I did find this. I guess it's not stated as absolute concurrence, though. But I said I did think he would revert back to his career norm. But I've become increasingly convinced of the validity of the DIPS ERA stat. At a minimum when you find a player who has a good ERA and a low BABIP it...

Joe Jr, GM of the year?

A good trade really should be a wash. To get value you have to give up value. You don't evaluate a trade by comparing the two players, particularly when one is a pitcher and the other a position player. The key thing about the Kim trade is that the team desperately needed a right handed power...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

That's what I was going to say! We blew a game against the Mets today.

    Thoughts-

I'd love to see the Red Sox and Yankees get in a bidding war for Myers. Lefty specialists are always in demand at the break. I'd actually expect Myers to be successful to begin with in the AL. They won't be used to his funky delivery at all. If he would just throw strikes.

    Don't Boo The D'Backs

Grace always knows the right thing to say. Once of the reasons he is so popular. I thought only Philly sports fans booed? At least that's what the media would have everyone believe.

    Junior doing a Ruby immitation?

Re: Re: Junior doing a Ruby immitation? Well Junior may be moving farther than he thinks, then. The D-Backs have proven that they will move people who they perceive as not being "team" players in terms of doing what is asked of them: See Durazo and Kim. But even more importantly, Junior has...

So how do you like Hillenbrand now?

Patterson had lots of mental toughness last year when pitching with the big boys. I think right now he's in a bad mental patch. But he won't be the first good young pitcher that's happened to nor the last. His stock hasn't fallen that far. Young pitchers are known to be maddening.

    2003 Projections

Not sure what your numbers are for? First row is projected production to date given number of at bats and second is actual?

    Looking at Shea

And Shea gets 3 hits tonight off of Nomo just to make everyone look bad in criticizing his hitting. :p
  15. S

    Looking at Shea

Actually Shea is a good fit with this team in that he has a fair platoon split between righties and lefties. He hits lefties better than righties: .338/.351/.527.878 as opposed to .272/.316/.420/.736 The D-Backs historically have not hit lefties well as the best hitters (Gonzo, Fins) don't...

Randy might not pitch on Thursday in Tucson

Yo Skkorpion, 4 perfect innings. Told you they weren't blowing smoke in this case. :D

    Mantei's fault

Go talk to the guys at baseball prospectus. But you miss my point, the outmoded part is the insistence on defined roles as opposed to matchups.
  18. S

    Mantei's fault

Unsurprising that you would voice this opinion RLakin. Players should not mouth off about manager's decisions in the media - particularly when the team is on an 11 game win streak. The fans will kill you. Worst thing any player can do is complain about lack of playing time, makes him...

Randy might not pitch on Thursday in Tucson

Torn rotator cuffs can hold up for a while without surgery, but ultimately it seems they usually need it. That wasn't all smoke blowing, but it was a stupid decision by Todd Stottlemyre if he really wanted to pitch. But I never had any use for him. I don't think the situations are comparable...

    Mantei's fault

Well, I certainly can't argue that the hitting went way south. Two hits in 7 innings at Coors. Ugly.

Randy might not pitch on Thursday in Tucson

same thing skkorpion. In order to pitch he has to be able to move around on the mound and run to field a ball. If he is too tentative on his knee, that's a problem. It means he's not ready right now. Don't want him to get hurt favoring the knee.

Randy might not pitch on Thursday in Tucson

According to the Sidewinders website, Randy Johnson will not pitch there tomorrow night.

    National media

He actually wrote the column a few weeks ago. It was edited and republished. Somebody forgot to edit the D-Backs. I know that because what it said about the Phillies was even more ridiculous. It said the Phillies had a ways to go to get back in the wild card race. We were like huh? We're...

Does it all comes crashing to a halt tonight?

I think Elmer Dessens has a good future as a reliever. Man when he hits the wall about the 5th or 6th inning he is toast. Kind of reminds me of Omar Daal. After a couple of looks the other team figures out just what his ball is going to do.

    Cintron

Funny how often these things have their own way of working out, rendering a decision unnecessary at this time.
