This something my bro (Redrage) and I have talked about in the past. How many times have the Cards been bad, but not bad enough to snag the top pick?

Maybe this is the year? We've missed out on some great talents (Manning) due to not sucking enough.

The only question, if we do reach the pinnacle of suckiness, who would you draft #1 overall? Since I'm over here in Deutschland, I can't watch any football, sans the games that 40yearfan has sent me me (BTW, thanks again 40). So who is the best player/s in college football this year, but also would improve this Cardinals football club?

I would draft the top quarterback whoever he is because Matt Leinart is either going to have a career ending injury or will opt out of his contract to play for the Cardinals ever again. lol :D

Easy, trade out of the spot and stock pile draft picks both for this year and next. It is a numbers game at this point. We need too much help in too many areas to pay those kind of numbers to a number 1 pick.

First two picks in the first round, best OLs available.

Hopefully we will get the 1st pick and it will be highly sought after. That requires one outstanding savior for some team willing to sell the farm.

I agree with this plan, only I would be a little nervous about it as well after the Calving Pace/Bryant Johnson deal. My memory is a bit cloudy, but, I think Denny was here when this happened.

Denny wasn't but Rod Graves was. I think we also decided to throw in a 4th round pick to let NO move up to our spot.It was very nice of Rod to do that. He's such a nice guy  .

And the pick wasn't a number one pick. The time Graves does this was when the draft pool had slim pickings. Also using a first round pick on second round talent to fill a need was flat as stupid.

Don't forget we actually let them trade UP with us in the 2nd round too. Luckily enough Boldin fell to us anyway.

It's just our luck that in a season that we're stocked at the skill positions that we'd end up with the #1.

Is there a DE worthy of the #1 or #2 selection this year? If we draft in the top 3, I'd rather not spend it on an OL. I just don't think Thomas or Baker is that good.

In the spirit of BPA, I'd take Peterson and have a nasty 1-2 punch for a couple of years before he takes over as the primary back.

Has a 1-15 team ever started the season 1-0 and then went on a 15 game losing streak?

If not it would be another dubious record for the Cardinals in a season full of dubious records.

This draft is also slim pickings, though. Is there a clear #1 in this group? We all knew that Matt Leinart or Reggie Bush were going to be top picks in this draft coming into last season. Brady Quinn hasn't shown much this far. Lynch and Peterson are the two top guys.

One thing that I would like to see the Cards do is pick up a situational pass rusher in the middle rounds of the next draft (how long has it been since the Cards had one of those?) and a cornerback somewhere on the second day.

Well, we picked up a middle-round guy in Calvin Pace a few years ago..only we did it in the first round.

:p Wasn't there a guy from Alabama we picked up... Dennis Johnson? Something like that? Another solid Mac draft pick (second round?!) that washed quickly out of the NFL.

It's early but this probably isn't the draft you want to have the #1 pick for trading purposes because there's no clear cut #1.

QB- Brady Quinn(maybe Brian Brohm if he comes out)
RB- Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch(rumors he might stay are surfacing)
Wr- Calvin Johnson

Some good OL's, some good DE's(nobody on Mario Williams level). If the draft was tomorrow the first 5 picks would be completely dependent on who was drafting and what they need.

Look at all the 1 win teams Miami, Cleveland, Tenn, Oakland, Detroit, Arizona.

Miami needs a QB but they might wait to see if Daunte's better next year after more rehab? If not, WR or OL.

Cleveland has Frye, probably won't take a QB, my guess is RB or defense likely RB.

Tenn, WR or defense, they have their QB and RB(Henry, Brown and White).

Oakland, they passed on Matt because of Walter, my guess is OL, WR, RB is possible although Jordan has a big contract.

Detroit, you'd think QB.

Arizona, OL, CB.

And there are 5 teams with 2 wins.

It is reported that this will be the worst draft class in 20 years. Since QB's and other high profile position players are usually 1st to go this might be the year to trade the #1 pick if we have it. We need OL, DB, and more OL. Better yet might be to trade the pick for a proven OL who is in the league right now. I just do not see how we are suddenly going to turn this ship around. Even Houston is improving and Oakland kicked our butts while we are in reverse at full speed.

Right now I am guessing the the Notre Dame QB is going to be the #1 pick.

There's no way we get the #1 pick. Just never happens for us.

If we had the #1 pick, the value of the pick would drop since we couldnt bluff anyone into thinking we were taking Quinn. We'd probably get pennies on the dollar.

Yes, I have gone over to the dark side.

You have to have a buyer for the #1 pick before you can sell it. I would rather burn the #1 pick on a player that we don't need than sell for less than market value (current first- and second-round picks, following year's first- and third-rounders... something like that). Just ask the 49ers, who had to talk themselves into Alex Smith when they couldn't find anyone to move up.

Honestly, I think that this draft class looks considerably worse than the Smith-Brown-Edwards-Benson draft of 2005 or the Carr-Peppers-Harrington-Williams-Jammer-Simms draft of 2002. Man, what a dog the 2002 draft ended up being.

Dennis Johnson was from Kentucky. He was the last pick of the third rouund when he came out. Remember we picked him instead of the Florida product Alex Brown

Should be noted at the time a lot of people thought Johnson was a steal. Heavily touted recruit, several SEC teams cheated recruiting the kid. Had people saying if he stayed in school he was a first round pick the next year. Brown was considered too small for DE and not a LB.

Now Brown is a pass rushing demon and Johnson is out of the NFL.

That's exactly what we should do. Trade the pick for an "All-World" offensive linemen and maybe a 2nd 3rd or 4th rounder. Then do this for next season...

1. New "All World" Tackle comes in and plays Right Tackle (Matt's blindside)

2. Franchise "Big" (only if we have to)...and move him to Left Guard (or Right Guard). Wherever our running backs like to run through.

3. Keep playing Leckley at center unless a better Center comes available thru Free Agency.

4. Put 2nd rounder Duece at Right Guard next to All-World" Right Tackle.

5. Find a Left Tackle via Free Agancy or draft.

Iideally..."Big" would be the only one playing at over 330 pounds. Everyone else should be a tad lighter and quick on thier feet. Oh...and Ross, Step and Wells could either be traded or become career back-ups.

I think we need to also start considering DE's.Berry and Okeafor are getting up there and Antonio Smith is about all we have as a backup. I would've liked to see us pick up Mark Anderson in the 5th round last year. I thought he was projected to be gone by the middle of round 3. Instead we took Brandon Johnson. I really haven't noticed him too much this year.
