I read somewhere the other day that besides the last draft, drafts over the past 6 years has fared better for teams with the 3rd worst record than the teams with the 2nd worst records.

I didn't actually go through and check it season by season but its definitely interesting if true. Maybe we're better off staying at #3?

I am not sure whether you are saying that teams with the 3rd worst record historically in the lottery than teams with the second worst record, or whether its better to draft at three than at one.

If its the first, odds are odds. Historical data doesn't change the odds.

If its the second, I would maintain that teams that end up with the number 1 pick are often very bad teams that have mediocre management and feel the pressure to hit a home run with the first pick. Thus they overthink it and blow it.

It's the first. I meant teams who have the 3rd best odds have got the higher draft selection than teams with the 2nd best odds.

I'm not claiming it as a fact, I just read it somewhere the other day. If there's some website which actually has the draft lottery results throughout history then it could show us.

The lakers are sitting nick young, maybe shutdown, and ingram is out with a pesky sore knee.

We have a much harder schedule the rest of the way, but the lakers will do anything to keep the 2 spot, including telling Nicholson to suit up.

Can't blame them, they have everything riding on the top 3 slot.

With the suns losing tonight they might get rattled....and win.

There should be letter designation for the worst teams in the NBA like they do for the playoff teams.

Example:

W= clinched worst team

Any other ideas?

I like what Bert came up with. All the teams that do not make the playoffs get the same number of ping pong balls. That way you can try and make the playoffs, you miss by a game, no harm. You get the same ping pong balls as the other teams that did not make it. No need to try and lose all your games.

Uhh yeah... We'll try that out next season. In the meantime... We'll just cash in on the current rules until Silver gets on this new hot idea so you guys can sleep good at night.

Some of you know this is a tanking thread right?? If you don't get it or aren't into it feel free to start a "suns must win at all costs" thread. You guys can hang out on it and think up ways to sink our draft or change the rules etc etc.

We are looking at 5 more losses. Away at Portland is the far easiest game of the next 5. The others are Clippers, Warriors, Thunder and Rockets.

I'd say it is likely that before heading into the last 2 games of the season we will be tied with the Lakers.

Lakers would have to lose 6 straight to match us and play Minnesota twice and Sacramento.

Lakers then play back to backs on 11th and 12th april first vs New Orleans and then Golden State.

Suns finish the season on the 9th against Dallas and 11th at Sacramento.

Sac-Phx starts at the same time as Lal-Nop.

This will be a tank fiesta as there is a real possibility of both teams being tied and both teams having winnable matchups.

There is a chance that we could be ahead of the Lakers by the time we play Dallas. Unfortunately we play Dallas earlier that day and the Lakers play Minnesota couple hours later.

If we lose out we have a good chance to be in the #2 position.

And for the Dallas and Sacramento game our secret tank weapon should be available to seal the deal, start Bender.

Bender
Chriss
Jones JR
Booker
Ulis

for the last 2 games.

It's a tanking thread. It isn't a pro-tanking thread, is it?. I would imagine all kinds of discussion about tanking would be on topic.

OK, 5.5 lead over Orlando with 7 games for us left, but 8 games for them left. Still, a couple more losses should seal the third spot for us. The Lakers are still a .5 game ahead with 8 games left for them also. This tank fight for the second spot is coming down to the wire. Now with Booker out, we need Rush Hour to put up 50 in a game for us to win. Doesn't look like that is happening anytime soon.

I like this but the Suns should get the first draft pick at least once before it happens. :)

Make it this draft and all is good.

Yeah it is a pro tanking thread. Read the first post on it. We don't need f'n downers laying guilt trips on fans over a tank. Don't play stupid...Ok? This isn't a thread about changing the rules or how we're supposed to feel and da da da...It's about our DRAFT. Are we crystal clear on that?

I love how you break it down like that slin... Especially since it's good news for us.

Yeah this is a dogfight...Last night the Lakers looked like they were going to do us a big favor but had second thoughts and lost. But as you explained in exquisite detail this is far from over. I'm looking at this like it's a seven game playoff series and it's up for grabs now.

Wow last night with Booker out we still almost won being up five points late in the fourth. The suns are pulling out all the stops and I'm still sweating bullets!

Do we need a tank thread? Do you want one? You got it here it is all things tank related midway through the season as the trade deadline approaches. We are in hot pursuit of the "other" championship hoovering at the number #2 pick right now. #1 might be a little out of reach but with the help of the tank gods and a little bit of manuevering by the Suns we can mount an epic comeback and show the world the Suns can lose with the best of em

Hmm. First post. Not sure what "all things tank related" means then.

I already explained myself. If the thread title "#1 or BUST The almighty tank thread" isn't self explanatory then I don't know what to do for you bud. If you arnt getting it pm me and I'll explain it in terms even a five year old could grasp. Now stop hijacking the thread.

You definitely need to remind everyone how they should light up a little..

Things just need to be spelled out for some people apparently. This isn't a "feel bad about suns losing" thread or a "change the NBA rules" thread or a "I'm a better fan than you because I want them to win" thread. It's about enjoying what is and what we have to gain by losing. I never realized a tanking thread needs to be explained in such elementary details. Almost every losing team has a tanking thread...They seem to get it minus the guilt and bs.

I think the Suns board gets a little contentious at times because of all the losing. It's nothing that winning and more posters cannot cure.

Until then, humor helps.

Here's some humor to cheer things up!

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

I particularly enjoy the part at :40 where an excited fan in an ugly Xmas sweater is juxtaposed with a contemplative Jason Kidd clearly deciding he needs to find some sucker to take this point guard off his hands.

Look closely for special guest appearances from JYD and Kendall Marshall!
