So pedestrian compared to Mayfield's numbers.

It's not like college stats translate to the NFL though. College career leaders for TD's and passing yards:

Check out #14 and #20 on 2nd list (yards):

Geez that list of names is pretty underwhelming. Just goes to show you how much different the NFL is from college

Maybe we can add QBOF options already in NFL. The obvious name is Garrappolo but if speculation that Brady may not play past his current contract or this may be his last year more than likely NE holds on to him. If he makes it to the market he would be the obvious choice. Are there any other young back ups that are available?

You'd think maybe some teams picking before us would handle their QB situation before the draft. Presumably SF with Cousins had been rumored given the Shanahan connection. The Browns could also give Garrapollo 25mil a year if they wanted to with their cap situation.

I can see both of those happening. Cousins should be comfortable in SF, and the browns have stacks of young talent so adding a guy with "some" experience to lead, and then using their draft capital to top out their roster could make them a very good team.

IMO... if we get to be one of the top three teams to choose a QB we should be fine. There will be at least three guys next year capable of being a franchise level guy...solid starter at the very least.

That was a beautiful 50 yard (in the air) bomb. The WR (Washington) has major speed. Rudolph has a great arm but plays exclusively from the shotgun.

I have to say that I have not been inpressed with Sam Darnold.

Josh Rosen is my favorite QB so far this year.

Yeah, but ARZ will have that kind of money to throw at either as well when Palmer retires at the end of the year (he better), cutting Stanton and if Fitz calls it a career. Bring in a young veteran like Cousins or Garoppolo, bring back Gabbert and draft another QB like Mayfield in the later rounds.

Yea, Darnold has some Bortles in him. He’s clutch, but I’m still not sold on him.

AJ McCarron is the start and the end of a mostly pointless list.

People keep hating on Stanton, but very few teams are two deep. Most young backups are already set as the heir apparents to old QBs.

Stanton's contract doesn't extend into next year. If Palmer retires (and it looks like he should), we would have no one under contract at QB like the 49ers did this year.

Cousins will likely get a close to record contract, and Garropolo will require significant trade assets since the Pats can franchise him, like they did Matt Cassel before.

IMO it would be foolish to invest $25mil+ in the QB position at this point. Cousins is decent,...garrapolo had a few good games... for our offense both have nearly the same unknowns as a rookie. while drafting a guy gives us the cap flexibility to fill out the roster.
this off season should be huge for the redbirds...lots of picks, and lots of cash to spend...we can move from the cellar to the penthouse pretty quickly with the right moves and a little bit of luck.
rookie qb..yada yada... but we have seen several rookie qb's lead winning teams in the past few years

Fair enough, but if ARZ doesn't land in Top 5, they will have to trade up (mutiple assets) to take a Darnold or Rosen as I believe both will probably be taken in Top 3. Unless you feel the fourth or fifth best QB in the draft is going to prevent a rebuild. ARZ most likely will need another OT (depending on Veldheer), at least 2 WR's, a CB or 2 (Bethel is a FA) ang maybe a DL or OG next off season.

I asked if there were other back ups under contract ARZ could trade for, maybe Paxton Lynch, Tyrod Taylor, Brett Hundley, Nick Foles, Cardale Jones, etc.

Josh Allen had 67 passing yards in 4 quarters against Hawaii until that TD in OT.

Josh Allen, is in fact, not good.

Josh Allen is comparable to (although below) Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes had much more talent around him though.

Gotta figure some team will look at him and say to themselves "this year's Carson Wentz" and pull the trigger maybe earlier than talent suggests

Btw, and sorry if this has been answered: isn't Trace McSorley of Penn St draft eligible this year?

Talk about Favre-like temperament (if not quite the arm)

Part of the blame is he lost most of the guys who helped him look good last year. That is the problem with small school guys, their schools can't replace talent as quickly as powerhouse schools. Do you see tools/characteristics that could translate at the next level is the question all GM's are asking their scouts about Allen.

He is a SR, but at 6'0 195 he is really small and without a strong arm it will be difficult to stick at QB in the NFL. Barkley is bringing in scouts to games so McSorely has every opportunity to stand out. I'd prefer Baker Mayfield if we're going for a smaller QB.

Yes, although I think he should stay another year. He is a tremendous competitor.

Darnold is having similar issues. His WR's have really been poor. But as you mentioned, "talent"... the guys at USC "should" get better as the season progresses

The thing is, no one except Rosen will challenge Darnold for the #1 pick even if USC's receivers aren't as good as year's past, scouts are too much in love.

you might be surprised. some teams or more willing to embrace a smaller quicker mobile QB these days and there is still a lot of football to be played before the draft.

Oh I agree that after the Combine, there could be a shake up in rankings but unless Darnold suffers a catastrophic injury he should go #1 unless Rosen changes everyone's mind. I love Jackson's athletic ability and intangibles but he really needs to show more accuracy in big games. He's looked great against everyone except CLEM. Baker Mayfield is starting to grow on me, just hope his immaturity off the field is behind him.

To be fair, he did look great last year against CLEM on the road. He did lay an egg this year though.
