Thompson making a jump would be huge for the Cardinals. If you could have stability at S (hell, the interior of the defense in general) for the next three years that would be awesome for the defense.

Our defensive line has questions, but...

ILB - Hicks
ILB - Simmons
S - Baker
S - J Thompson

...have the ability to be a very reliable and sound group up the middle of our defense. And being sound in the middle generally means teams have to maintain long drives in order to score which many teams struggle to do.

I have irrational hope and positivity for Leki Fotu and Jalen Thompson. I have already mentally penciled them into the starting core for the next 10 years. No rational reason to believe that.

Idk about Leki, but I’m 100% with you on Jalen.
I just look at Fotu and the coach in me just sees a rare combination of size and length that doesn't seem to outright fail at the NFL level.

Guys like Danny Shelton may not be superstars, but they have a place in the league. The thought of Leki Fotu at 6'5 330 and 34.25" arms on a line with Jordan Phillips at 6'5 329 and 34.75" arms in a division where the two best teams want to run the ball is pretty exciting. That is just a lot of physical body to block in games. That isn't even when factoring the NT. I am getting excited just typing about it.

See, completely irrational.

This is an excellent observation and point.

I'd still like to see some improvements at OLB depth. Kylie Fitz and Reddick is the worst depth we have had there for ages. At a position where we neec to rotate a lot.

I'd like to a vet CB too. Tramon Williams is FA but still playing well. Can play slot or outside. Would be good depth.

Wasn't the problem an inconsistent motor?
Yes, but defensive linemen generally play less snaps in the NFL. Dudes the size of Fotu aren't built to play 90 snaps per game and there is not generally great depth behind them. Also, I like Kyle Whittingham and he doesn't seem to back lazy players. Again, this is a story I seem to be telling myself, but it makes sense to me.

Thanks for the reply.

Excited to see how all our young guys do this year.

Especially picks like Fotu when you say his coach backs him.

FWIW, his older brother played DL at UofA and not only did he have an inconsistent motor, he also had some off-the-field stuff that got him kicked off the team
