I think I'm benching him in dynasty... but I have Aaron Jones, Rhamondre, Dameon Pierce, Dobbins, Mattison, and Mike Boone. In redraft, I think he's gotta be in the consideration set.

Can I have one? I lost Javonte Williams and Rashaad Penny for the season.

I think this is the dumbest trade I've seen in a long time.

Trade that much for a 26 year old RB with that many miles on him, that's often injured, to a team where players are often injured?

They had high level running back play from Elijah Mitchell for basically free and in the last week they said he was on track to return in 2 weeks after their bye. So Mitchell might only miss one more game. He had 1100 yards from scrimmage last year in only 10 starts. He had 90 yards a game rushing at 4.7 YPA.

I just don't get giving all that capital for basically little gain on what you get from Mitchell. But I'm all for it.

McCaffery has to feel good about going to a team that in recent years has such a strong history of good players on the IR. He's going to fit right in.

When talking about good players on the IR I am excluding Trey Lance.

He sucks.

A big gamble for sure. I thought the Niners would win the division before the trade. If he can stay healthy which is a huge if they could run away with it.

From Bay Area season ticket holder buddy, in reply to me talking about this being an all-in-for-this-year move:

"49ers will not win it all. Both offensive tackles out and the two guards and center had five NFL starts between them. Meanwhile every starter on the defensive line is hurt. 7 out of 11 defensive starters are out of injuries. McCaffrey will probably go down within a few weeks. I love this team, but you might have to huf up another bong hit and watch reruns of Montana/Young to Rice if you want to see the 49ers winning."

True but the LT returned to practice this week as did Bosa. Armstead is getting closer but won't play Sunday. They get I think 3 starters back on defense this week maybe only 2.

I think they're basically saying they don't think they can win a SB with Jimmy as the QB unless they have an elite run game and with the OL injuries that means replacing a solid RB like Wilson with an elite RB like CMC, IF healthy, might make the difference

Their #1 RB who is good is due back in a week or 2…. They should have saved their draft picks.

I like Mitchell too but he's been injury prone himself so far so they can't rely on him either.

THis is my guess on why they did this.

Trey Lance sucks but he's a good runner and as a result the 49ers run game was going to be better as teams had to assign a defender to Lance. With Jimmy, they don't so the avg yard per carry went from 5.8 under Lance to 3.8 under Jimmy. Teams stack the box because they don't fear the passing game but they have an extra defender in the box now because Jimmy isn't going to run like Lance.

Wilson's good but if healthy CMC is elite. That's their gamble IMO, CMC is better against a stacked box, CMC is better out of the backfield, he'll draw even more attention giving Jimmy even easier throws, maybe he'll complete them.

I don't think it's a dumb trade, it's a trade to try and put them over the top this year. I get he hasn't got a ton of miles left on him, but he does currently still have the ability to win a game for you because he is clearly much better than the average back.

Niners have everything they need to win, with the possible exception of Jimmy G.

Man the myopia on this board can sometimes be hilarious. All those bashing this trade must either be GMs or looking to the future bc the only reason to bash it are non-football reasons. They are getting a pro bowl talent without giving up talent. They have a talented but oft injured rb now. With two their odds of having one at all times goes up exponentially. The reason their run game is so successful is scheme creates contact much further down the field which should have a positive effect on cmc. For a team that sees an opportunity now this is nothing but a win.

His injury history is about the only downside to the trade. Because he is, most likely, going to be on IR sooner rather than later.

But that still doesn’t make the niners worse today because they didn’t give up talent to get him. Future picks don’t impact the team this year.

That is absolutely correct. It does really hurt them next season, especially that contract.
