I can't believe 3,maybe 4, potential 10 picks all went back to school.Leinart, Wright,Kiwanuka, and DeAngelo all could've been selected in the top 10. If they all declare then the Cards are looking good at 8.Now we may be taking a guy that really isn't worthy of top 10 status in a normal year. The top 8 could easily go:
SF-Rodgers
Mia-Benson
Cle-Alex Smith
Chi-Edwards
TB-Barron/Cadillac
Tenn-Rolle/DJ
Oak-Rolle/DJ
Ari-????????????

Hopefully Oakland is still in love with Mike Williams and they take him at 7. Otherwise we are looking at our pick coming from Barron,Cadillac,Thomas Davis,Erasmus James :barf: or Marlin Jackson.None of those guys particulary excite me at 8.I think it was Russ in another thread said Leinart's not coming out hurts us because it's one less quality player available at 8.

Yep add Ahmad Brooks to the list of guys I wanted to come out who didn't.

It's a weak draft, really counting on a lot of underclassmen coming out, not as many of the really good ones did as I hoped.

Don't forget Ronnie Brown, Heath Miller, Adam "Pac Man" Jones or Carlos Rogers.
Any of those four would be a big contributor and I would feel pretty good about them.

It is simple and would be great

I will say this over and over again. There is no need to panic if D.J. Johnson is there at #8...PICK HIM!!! Johnson is a top ten talent and I have seen enough of his games to know. When a guy makes up for half the defense on a top 5 ranked college team, you don't have to be too bright to see the logic. A great LB who will go great with Dansby and Hayes for years to come. Sorry, but if I had a choice between Benson and Johnson it would be a no brainer...Johnson.

Anyword on what our 2nd pick options are?

Maybe we trade our first rounder, and pick Andrew Walter as a future QB in the 2nd...

I'm not worried. We will pick the best player avaliable. Whether it is Rolle, Johnson, Brown, Williams or who ever.

There is one problem with that mock.McNeil is staying at Auburn because he recieved no higher than a 3rd round grade from the NFL.

This draft is getting very diluted and that may be as a result of last years underclassmen coming out last year. NFL is starting to get NBA like.

I really don't see 2 QBs in top 3.

Browns have Garcia with big money and Holcomb. They need skill players at RB and WR.
No coach or GM.

9ers QB makes sense , but Smith the #1. NO coach or GM

Dolphins are clearing money off their cap and could make a move on Edgerrin James FA. Look for Dolphins to go O line, by moving down. Hard to do.

Bears look like a lock to take Braylon Edwards.

No way on Tampa with McNeil. Maybe elsewhere for O line or RB.

Tennessee has huge holes .

Raiders make sense with Williams .

Cards could get lucky with Rolle, but really need RB or TE.

Looks like a bad draft overall. I would hate to be picking #1 .

#8 is going to look worse and worse over the next few weeks, because all the draft-hype will be focused on the All Star games and the Combine - which only feature graduating seniors.

Then - as Pro Day results and other post-Combine workouts take place, you'll hear more about the underclassmen and the draft pool will begin to look more talented and deeper as we approach Draft Day.

Everyone's "top 8" looks a bit different, and it's still a bit early to scope out where things will settle.

One thing I'd suggest not doing is zeroing in on one player you feel "we absolutely have to have." Using Rolle as an example, my guess is that the chance that he will still be on our board at #8 hovers around 50-50 (probably less).

Final observation: Dennis' boards don't necessarily resemble Kiper's board, the boards of other so-called draft experts or for that matter, other NFL teams. (Otherwise, Dansby and Dockett wouldn't have fallen to us).

By your own projections we still look okay. You've listed 8 players here.

1. Rodgers
2. Benson
3. Smith
4. Edwards
5. Barron
6. Cadillac
7. Rolle
8. Williams

We could go so many different directions in the draft that I don't see how anyone we draft at the #8 spot wouldn't immediately improve this team.

The only positions I don't see us drafting early are WR and Center...otherwise they could go any direction.
