Jefferson has some talent. I liked what I saw from him last preseason.

But he was badly outplayed last year most of the time. But he should improve. We could have given him a chance, but we decided to be proactive and get guys like Flemming and Bethel, and sign Gay. I won't fault our front office from hoping a guy develops into getting a few guys that currently are or should be better than Jefferson and adding them to the roster. Bethel has looked good this preseason and last night he was everywhere and played physical. With what he brings to special team blocking units, he already is more valuable than Jefferson.

So it was good we didn't sour on Jefferson, just thought we did a good job of identifying secondary talent that fit us better than Jefferson currently, and were proactive enough to get something in return.

Didn't see this coming, but should have. Good front office move. If we get a pick, great. If we can get a OT/OLB, then even better. If somehow both, then woo hoo.

On a lesser talented secondary, Jefferson has a chance to stick for awhile, and probably long enough to get enough experience to make a decent career. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in Minny for the next 5+ years. Though nothing is ever certain.

It also could be that Minny may agree to sending a player they might cut if they find someone they want. So maybe they cut an OT/OLB if they can find say a DE, but unless they see one they like, they might just keep pat, and send the pick. So the player we might get could just sort of be a reciprocal waiver bypassing move.

He does have the size, but def not the speed. That's why he went from being a second round prospect to a an undrafted free agent. Dude ran in the 4.7's and has been burnt deep consistently.
You might want to double check your sources because Jefferson ran a 4.42 in the 2010 combine.

My guess is picks. Michael said we're going to build from the draft.

I may be the only one who thinks it, but I honestly think Michael has a plan for where he wants this team a year, five, ten down the road. I think he's looking Big Picture.

IMO maybe we traded him and picks for a player?

It's certainly possible.

As someone else suggested, it could be something like Jefferson + our 7th rounder for their 6th rounder or something. Remember the Bryant McFadden trade?

I'd even be thrilled with that!

Man, this is a bit of excitement in a really crappy day that might salvage something for me :)

If he's looking to build that far down the road with this trade, he's wheeling and dealing a pretty small Lego in Jefferson.

The plan & big picture will most likely fail until somehow, someway they get a QB who can play at a high level...at all costs!!!

he did say 1 5 and 10. Not just 10. Maybe they actually learned something from the Warner situation about living in the moment not working out in the future

for me it's just curiosity about what anybody would have given for the guy that was almost certain to be cut

Think about what teams have given away for small legos. Teams make trades all the time that seem nuts.

I'm kind of hoping to be on the receiving end of another team's stupidity. No law says only the Cards are able to do stupid stuff.

And Shane: Da-yum straight.:D

We are still short an OLB. I wonder about Everson Griffen. He doesn't seem to have a place in the 4-3 that they run. Just a thought.

hmmm, good thought...but getting in trouble with the cops last year makes it a slim possiblity

because he still sucks. Just slightly less than Kolb...
This was meant for stout who was rooting for Skelton :)

I know this is not the ideal situation but consider the alternative of going into the season with Kolb as starter [/shudders]

Jefferson started for us last year- He has starting experience -
Mike Adams over Jefferson really?
makes me want go throw some cash down for a ticket-See Whiz's pet Adams get 100 failed plays for every exciting flash - He does have the flashy highlight occasonally - but He can't perform his primary position- worth a poot.

How can this be a crappy day after Skelton's announcement? That made my day ;). This is all just gravy.

Father in the hospital, swamped with school work, a goofball chick that won't leave me alone, my soccer team upchucking on the last day of the transfer window, the Pirates losing a game they should have won through gross mismanagement...so Skelton starting is a good thing, and the Jefferson trade is nice, but...yeah, not a great day.
