I don't think we are seeing any real consistency out of any of the contestants. Kristy Lee's nerves have got to be shot at this point. Simon is being borderline abusive week after week, as well as her finishing in the bottom with the votes. I think what he said to David this week was to try not to be overconfident. After his performance last week, it was pretty obvious is his performance. Amanda was and it cost her. She was not as good as the judges made her out to be and I'm very glad she's gone. Taylor Hicks proved that you don't have to be the best every week, you just cannot be the worst. Kristy Lee has had a rough ride up to this point. She needs to quit trying so hard and just have fun with it. Simon won't like her no matter what.

Probably Kristy Lee. Worst "almost good" voice I've ever heard. It's so close to being good, but still bad, that it's really just irritating.

My wife can't stand how Kristi's eyes pop out of her head 5-7 times per song. After she brought that up it bugs me also.

Weak sauce. Cook rips off Cornell's arrangement and is called original and such.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=c2MgwAJrfXo

Cornell was credited prior to the performance. It was announced with Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean...

If you want to see original from that guy look up his version of Lionel Richie's Hello. Incredible.

Last night's performance was terrific as well.

IMO if the show was about talent you'd have Johns, Cook, Chikezie, and White duking it out.

Kristy Lee Cook...is the new Sanjaya. In terms of being in the bottom and sending someone else home. Hopefully it's the Irish girl.

Simon was right, it was a smart choice. You can't let America go home. LOL.

Thanks guys, I stand corrected. I saw the bloggers were covering the credit too. :)

I actually think Cook's take was better than Cornell's. And I am a huge Cornell fan.

Cook should win the whole show, but as we know that means he won't. The best singers and performers seem to never win on this show. But in the end he should be getting a recording contract and will probally be the most successful one. The Archuletta kid picked a ******** song get a clue kid geesh.

Completely agree. Cook's perfomance last night was brilliant. Ditto the above on Archuleta - why is he still there? Also the dreadlocks guy - he should've been booted out 3 weeks ago. :bigyawn:

I'm pretty sure that song Archuleta did was Alan Parsons? I'm shocked that the judges did not recognize it. David Cook needs to get booted for his own good, like Daughtry and Blake Lewis. He'll be better off if he doesn't win. He is the best on the show this season, no doubt.

It was announced as Cornell's. And he nailed the ish out of it. He didn't take credit for doing that version as if it were his own. He was called original because he sang a very different version of the song. Everyone else is singing the song as it was originally done, with little change. Cook is taking better, harder versions or doing it up himself. Each time he's used someone else's version, it's been said prior to him singing it. Last week he used a Whitesnake version of the song he sang, and got panned because the judges thought it sucked.

Daughtry did a Live song last year and only said it was their version during the results show.

Cook is hands down the most talented dude in this show...he has a fantastic voice, and is an EXCELLENT performer.

I went through Youtube and watched his performances back. I remember them, though I didn't realize how good he was back in Hollywood week, etc. Very much like Kelly Clarkson in that respect...it was when it got narrowed down that she stood out.

As great as Hello was, which was amazing, and the last song, Billie Jean, I still absolutely love the performance below. All Right Now was when I first "discovered" how flat-out amazing he is. Looking back, it is a great performance. Love this guy's voice and stage persona.

From EW:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How do you feel the show is going this season?
SIMON COWELL: It's interesting. I think the audience are much more savvy than I've seen them in previous years, and much less forgiving, which I'm happy about. I've got a feeling this year something strange could happen, particularly after what happened with David Cook last night. Because, I've got to tell you, watching it back, this performance he did on "Billie Jean," in my opinion, was in a different league to anything we've heard on the season so far. It was so much better, [chuckles] he kind of made some of the other performances seem ridiculous. But I'm glad! He was smart — I know where he got the arrangement of the song from, but that doesn't really matter. He was brilliant! And I was concerned three or four weeks ago that this was just going to be a coronation for David Archuleta and it's just a question of who comes [in] second. I'm not so sure anymore. And, you know, with Jason Castro last night — there's a guy who thinks he's just sailing along, and I thought it was a bad performance. You give somebody like him a kick up the ass, let's see what he can deliver now. But I thought it was, um, an interesting night last night.

To be sure. Some very odd song choices.
And very clever song choices. That "God Bless the U.S.A." [sung by Kristy Lee Cook] — smart girl. Gotta tell you [laughing] when your back's against the wall, she knew what she was doing. I thought that was very smart. I'll be amazed if she gets booted out on the back of that [song].

I thought this was an interesting take from MSN:

But no, Slezak insisted, Cook hasn't survived on "AI" because he's had an unfair advantage throughout the contest.

"He's just aware of these versions in the first place," he said. "It's not like Cornell's version was a #1 hit. The average 'Idol' viewer at home may not even be aware of that version, so he could have gone ahead and not credited it at all, and I wouldn't be surprised if the judges didn't know that version. The judges give him credit for bravery and innovation when he's just really being smart and savvy and picking interesting versions of the song that really suit his vocal style. What he's doing is really no different than any contestant on the show. David Archuleta picked Stevie Wonder's version of 'We Can Work It Out,' and Carly Smithson picked Celine Dion's version of 'I Drove All Night.' Cook is just picking slightly more creative and interesting versions of his songs. It's hard to make a case that he's doing something unfair. He's just a smart competitor."

Absolutely. He's picking awesome versions of songs, and singing the everloving EF out of them.

Oh, and by the way, on Cornell's official site they have both his and Cook's youtube version of the song up in the news and are playing it up...and CC was on Seacrest's show and said he loved Cook's cover of his cover.

For anyone to think that anyone other then David Cook deserves to win this show they are crazy. He is so far ahead of everyone. I always look at his performances like I am watching one of his concerts.

The shine is definitely off Archuletta. Still really good, but I think is youth is showing through now.

Cook is amazing. I think it's his to lose.

I think Castro could still end up in the top three. I disagree with the judges (sans Paula) that he needs to step out of his comfort zone. I think that'd be a big mistake. He doesn't have a big voice. I think he needs to stay in his wheelhouse by "under"-singing songs and connecting with the audience. What he might want to think about, though, is undersinging a song that is traditionally "oversung." That doesn't make any sense, does it?

I also think Castro should have answered Simon differently when pressed about "not trying." He should have said something like "I've been working really hard every week. I've been told my laid-back personality sometimes comes across as disinterested, but nothing is farther from the truth. I'm in it it to win it."

EDIT: I'd be remiss if I didn't point out to Donald that Michael Johns had a good night. (though I didn't like the song selection/jump cut to "Champions")

man, I suck. I was SOOOO going to mention this. I thought Pariah Johns had a fantastic night. He was my second favorite. He should have just sung Champions though..he ROCKED that song. That was fantastic performance.

I so wanted to say that Pariah Johns was great and I missed it..what an IDIOT!! :bang:

I swear to god dude, he physically reminds me of you and at this point, i feel like I'm talking to him when I respond to you.

David Cook is leading because he's smart. This stage of the game is always about arrangement. When he ends up with a song that has no cool alt-rock arrangement I think he's going to sound stale or contrived. When it gets down to the final 2 it's all about the fan base one's built. He's doing a better job coming across as personal the past two weeks, and that will help him. But I think if it comes down between him and Archuletta, the teeny-boppers will vote for the breather.

I actually think Ms. Brooke is extremely talented and has a shot! Cook is no doubt the man to beat, but I can see Brooke being there in the end!
Archuleta is falling with each passing show... Too young and truly, I am not sure he is nearly as talented as we might have first thought...
I also think Syesha is better than first thought...
Johns is very one-dimensional to me...

Finally set up my dvr to record AI. I never bother to watch until it gets to about this point. I wish I had gotten this past Tuesday's show recorded, though. I wonder how many people there are like me out there that at this point really know nothing about the personalities & will be voting purely on talent?

Hmmm...didn't mean for it to sound like that...

The conversation had been talking about Cook? (iirc) and how his personality is finally coming out for people to connect with. Was just wondering how much the total voting increases as people like me start tuning in now, and those of us that are, have no personality to connect with.

Didn't mean for it to sound holier than thou or anything like that.
