I'll admit I don't follow Euro basketball as closely as I have in the past, but I am not aware of Mirotic coming to the NBA. Last I heard he was making $5M or so in Spain, and Real was working on an extension. Can you point me to the source that says he is coming to the NBA next year?

I don't think anyone is saying he is definitely coming to the NBA, but this move looks like Chicago making it possible for him to come on over:

Luol Deng trade paves way for Nikola Mirotic to Chicago

http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/sto...s-trade-luol-deng-andrew-bynum-nikola-mirotic

The link discusses the possible extension with Real and how much the buyout would cost the Bulls and Mirotic himself.

There have been dozens of reports over the last year about it and after doing a single season on bing, I came up with about 35 article.

http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/sto...s-trade-luol-deng-andrew-bynum-nikola-mirotic

Well, you did say he was coming over as if it were a done deal. This first link says nothing of the sort. It sounds more like wishes and dreams. Maybe it happens but unless some of those other links you provided (too lazy to read that many articles) offer reports that confirm his desire to play in the NBA and his willingness to sacrifice in the short term, I'd be hopeful but doubtful until he put on a Bulls uniform if I were a Chicago fan.

You sound just like so many of us Suns fans did during the Penny Hardaway era. A player who has a serious knee injury to each knee rarely returns to form and it's especially concerning if the injuries are not the result of direct contact. If he's available from the start of next season he'll have played something like 50 games in 3.5 years. Again, who returns to form when that happens? Even without injury, taking that much time off often does something to the high level competitor. He may well come back at his previous level but I think it's far from a safe assumption and I find it hard to believe that the Chicago organization isn't concerned and looking at options.

Steve

The problem is his max extension just kicked in, so there are no options with him. And again, he could have been back already, but they wanted to fixed the meniscus instead of band aid it. This is not as major as the ACL, which he came back from with zero physical limitations. I watched every game back and other than his shot being off and a little rust the first week, he looked great.

I already provided that, but some said they won't bother reading it, but it is doubtful based on what they feel. I guess the Bulls should just give up nope now. ;)

I only watched two games. To me, he didn't look as quick off his feet as he had when I watched just about every one of his college games. He also didn't look as aggressive but that could easily be written off to several reasons that have nothing to do with his injury. But while his injury is not as severe as the ACL, it is still a major injury and the repair fails far more often than anyone would like. Isn't there is something like a 20% chance that they will have to do it over in a few months? If that happens you can bet they'll be removing a lot of the Meniscus. A happ life as a serious basketball player becomes highly doubtful at that point.

That one was from today.

The plan has always been 2014 and here are a couple of other articles about it. That is why the Bulls have hung on to Boozer. They can amnesty him this summer and have more money for Mirotic

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/13165/bulls-likely-to-wait-till-2014-for-mirotic

http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/04/bulls-wont-sign-nikola-mirotic-until-2014.html

Ok, so "Chicago is going to try to sign Mirotic this summer" would be an accurate statement. "Mirotic is coming to Chicago" is a bit misleading.
Mirotic is a good player, and I know he wants to play in the NBA, but I don't think he will be in Chicago for at lest another season.

I am not saying he will pull a Bodiroga and just never come to the NBA, but I don't see him leaving that much money on the table. Keep in mind that European basketball salary is much different than an NBA salary. Teams in Europe (most good teams, anyway) pay your taxes, while in the States, you are "punished" for being rich and have to pay more than half of your salary in taxes (Of course, playing in CA or NY is hell of a lot more expensive than playing in Texas or Florida.)
$5M in Europe is a lot money to leave on the table- probably more than double that in the States.

Yup, looks terrible. This was in the second or third game this year. If you are board by 3 pointers, go to 2:30 mark.

I have no idea if he'll come over but it does sound like you have reason to be hopeful. But you're getting snarky instead of doing what you should have done. I've always liked you as a poster so I'll admit to surprise at your approach here. You stated something as fact. When called on it by SirStefan you haughtily provided links to prove your point. Your links do not in any way prove your point. The sensible response on your part would have been to acknowledge that it was merely an opinion. And just so it's obvious that I did indeed read the article that you and BIM linked to, I'll point you to the following quote:

The Bulls are planning on having Mirotic on hand eventually, hopefully starting this summer

The plan has always been 2014 and Paxson just spent three week there working with his agent. He is coming over, I have no doubt.

How about you stop stomping your feet, slamming the door, and otherwise throwing a hissy fit, and talk basketball?

Nobody is trying to "piss in your Cheerios" as you so eloquently put it.
I like the Bulls- being a big "defense and toughness" fan, along with the Pacers, your Bulls are my favorite non-Suns team in the NBA.

I am simply pointing out some facts (as is Steve)- Mirotic isn't coming this year, and Rose is not going to be the same Rose we are all used to, and frankly, two surgeries are something to be worry about.

Why wouldn't you? This knee injury is not near what the first one was.

they don't have a choice but to build around him with his contract, but the fact that he's been chronically injured the last three seasons (he missed big chunks of time the lockout year even before he blew his knee out) probably makes the franchise entertain the thought they might have a jalopy on their hands...unfortunately.

I don't know what you're trying to accomplish here. I didn't say his play was terrible, in fact, I said nothing even near it. I stated my opinion about what I saw and acknowledged that I hadn't seen much of him this season.

Just to clarify, I'm not exactly saying this. I have no idea whether Mirotic will play for the Bulls next season. No opinion whatsoever on the subject because I have absolutely no facts on this subject. I just don't think his coming is a done deal. Also, I'm not saying Rose will not return to form. I'm saying the possibility, maybe even probability, exists he won't return to form and that has to be of concern to the Bulls organization.

You are right, I was snarky and should not have been. I have the flu. I am sorry for that, but I am still confident Moronic is coming and Rose will be fine if he can stay healthy.;)

Right, right. I am saying that Mirotic is not likely to come over next summer.
I included you in my post because he was throwing a hissy fit when you pointed out some facts. I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. My apologies.

Given the risk, there is no choice but to ride it out.

It is a very good move. Deng rejected the extension, so they were going to lose him anyway. They turned nothing into $20M and 3 picks. It's a pretty awesome move.

Yeah, I'm at my snarkiest when I'm not doing well so I certainly understand. If I were a Bulls fan, I think I'd be confident about Rose and Mirotic too. What good is it to be a fan if you can't be a FAN and dream a little. It's probably as reasonable as not until we know more.

Maybe I missed it but are there any more details about the draft picks the Bulls receive? I understand one is first round pick in 2015 that is top 14 protected. It seems the Bulls made a trade for their future.

After further reading, I understand the two other picks are second round picks besides the first round pick I mentioned above.
