It's going to be hard for me to get used to Max Kellerman opposite Stephen A. Smith.

I've never been a fan of Smith but Kellerman came down hard on Ayton. Smith and Jay Bilas were defenders.

I guess it's their job to take opposing views but I found Kellerman abrasive.

The good news is that nothing they can say about these kids has any real meaning to us. I'm no expert by any means but I'm quite confident that I watch and know far more about college and pro basketball than Kellerman. I'll take a backseat to his opinions on boxing but he's out of his league on almost every other sports topic IMO.

I will vote for this. Kellerman was so sure of himself it rubbed me wrong.

What’d he say?

He basically talked Ayton down acting like he is a center from yesteryear not taking into account his athletic skills and shooting ability. The other commentators had to point out that Ayton is a skilled big man.

If people haven't seen it, another article on Ayton that goes into why he was often accused of not being a hard worker in HS.

https://sports.yahoo.com/shadow-wor...rous-path-become-nbas-top-pick-040044927.html

For ARizona fans a nice article since it praises Miller quite a bit and quotes Josh Gershon a good bit. it also sort of explains in a "nice way" why so few people recruited him. If the explanation given in that story for why the NCAA cleared him is true it's pretty interesting. They basically said the NCAA felt sorry for Ayton because so many "handlers" had taken advantage of him when he was younger, trying to make money off him. So the NCAA eventually discounted everything that happened before his mom moved from the Bahamas and took Ayton out of San Diego to Arizona. They mention briefly schools like UCLA, UNC and kentucky showing some interest but never that much and sort of hint at why, it's well known UCLA backed off as soon as he got involved with Shaun Manning, he was involved with Jeremy Tyler in highschool and Tyler never went to college. It also mentions Ollie Goulston, who was the coach for Angelo Chol in HS, another kid UCLA backed off because of all the rumors about him getting money, the NCAA actually did the same thing with Chol this article says they did with Ayton, they discounted some of the money changing hands because they ruled it happened without the knowledge or control of Chol. That is they decided it wasnt' fair to rule him ineligible because people around him were making money by offering to steer him, without direct proof that Chol knew what was going on.

All that explained why most Arizona fans thought they'd never get involved with Ayton, they had bad prior relationships with both Manning and Goulston related to Tyler and Chol. Once the mom took Ayton away from San Diego to Arizona, others moved in and eventually the article suggests the mom just booted everyone out and took over.

Kellerman is paid to make these “hot takes”. What kind of show would it be if he and Smith agreed on everything. Kellerman praised Ayton as a generational talent before one game in the tourney changed his mind.

Ayton vs Embiid should be good. I would love to see a little rivalry develop there.

It’s in their contract that they have to disagree. Stephen A gets to pick first.

Yeah, nowhere in my mind was I convinced that Kellerman believed his own take. Though in all honesty, I don’t feel comfortable with any of his basketball takes in general. I feel like he makes it up as he goes.

I don't know if you ever watched his old show, "I, Max" but it was awful. Kellerman only knows boxing. I'll admit he's a great boxing analyst but when it comes to other sports he's an idiot. I can't remember any of his takes but he really just tries to hit a nerve. He sounds like a prepubescent Stephen A Smith. I'm a little surprised ESPN would pair him with Smith but at the same time, it's a perfect pairing.

Embiid... you barely play back to backs. Prove your fragile frame can make it through a season, quit yapping yer trap!

Yeah. Hey Joel..... I bet Ayton plays within 700 days of being drafted, clown. Did you play a lot of 'defense' on the end of the bench?

I'm actually kind of glad Embiid is challenging Ayton like that. Hopefully he takes it the right way and proves him wrong. I think it's safe to assume he'll play quality defense when we meet the Sixers. Could be a solid rivalry building with the Bridges trade also. I want to see Ayton run away with the Rookie of the Year and call Embiid out for it. He couldn't win despite being in the league for 2 seasons on the bench and with trainers before he ever played. Then he only played in 34 games in his 3rd season/rookie year.

I actually do remember that. My first exposure to Kellerman was for his boxing analysis, which I do feel he does a very good job of. I kind of got used to his gibberish when he was SportsNation for that stretch before he went to First Take. The guy has a lot of historical knowledge of basketball, but his perspective, whether intentional or not, leaves a lot to be desired.

Love this little video. Gives a better insight into Ayton than interviews imho, and I love when he tells Bridges, "It's business now."

All we need now in Bryan to come back home and the rivalry with Philly will be set. 2020 Nba finals phx vs Philly that would be a dream

He is humorous, but he also commands the room. He is the dominant personality in the room. Interesting.

I like your new avatar.

Ayton's personality resembles Shaq's personality to me.
