JC, it's not about "tall". It never has been. It is about "power" -- a strong presence in the post. Especially as the season wears on.
Frye is not a physical presence at Center. Nor is Plumlee. Nor is Markeiff when he plays there. Len is nowhere near ready, even if his legs hold up. Unfortunately, neither was Gortat. Lopez could have been, but he was too much of a flake.
Your sarcasm aside . . . I care not about how we look, but how we play. Think about it!
Ok. I think my frustration is rooted in how often you overstate your case.
As a result, I have the sense that you will never be satisfied.
Case in point. Plumlee is the DEFINITION of a power player. That IS his game. He does not shy away from contact, in fact, he seems to enjoy it. He does not camp outside, he is constantly going to the rim. And if there is the remotest chance he can throw it down with authority, he will do it. In style, (not effectiveness) he is more of a power player than Duncan.
While we would have loved Gortat to play with a little more authority at times, he is also a classic center as well.
Markieff has an excellent post up game. Usually he plays center when the other team is going small and our bigs put us at a disadvantage.
This team this year won games. Yes, they needed better defense, but they needed that most on the ball when Bledsoe was out.
That all said, I am fine with the Suns letting Frye walk. I can see it is time to let Markieff fill that pf role and for Len and Plumlee to fill the center role. It also gives us more free agent options at SF, which is where I think our biggest weakness is.
