I know he is listed as a point. Some sources say he is 6'5" some say 6'3" in reality he is probably 6'3" but with a 6'9" wing-span is there a chance he could get some time at the 2 along side Marbs. I am not saying now or anything but he sounds to me like he could play the 1 or the 2 in some instances.

I dont know just something to think about.....

Marbs will get time at the SG spot before that happens...

We dont need any more players that the SG spot. He should get all his min's as backup PG...

Well, reading all about his great outside shooting, it definitely is a possibility. Would like to see at least Frank try it. Casey, Joe, and Penny are not greate outside shooters.

Hmm... about 6' 3", long arms, an allegedly good outside shooter...

Anything that makes him less like Tony Delk would be good. Let's not have another undersized combo guard who can't give the ball up.

Joe Johnson shot almost 37% from behind the arc this season which is pretty good. Especially considering the bad first 2 month he had in the season.

Unfortunately his overall field-goal percentage wasn't much higher than his three-point percentage. :)

I really like that this team has the potential to be even more versatile this season. I only wish Amare Stoudemire was healthy, said he could be practicing all summer.

Well with Zarko hopefully being able to play well with Amare at the 2 big positions it will make things easier for Amare next season and making up for the offseason surgery.

Even with the surgery he should be able to work on quite some things like shooting, ball handling and light workouts.

Offseason is boring but soon there will be the summerleague.

Than we have Big Jake playing for greece in the european championships in september and Zarko should be playing for serbia-montenegro.

AND Starbosa will play on the brazilian national team in august and also play against USA.
How do you like my new Starbosa avatar? :)

If Barbosa can guard other shooting guards, Marbury/ Barbosa backcourt could create all kinds of match up problems.

supposedly he's a very good ball handler. THAT alone separates him from delk in my mind.

From everything I've read about Zarko it seems extrememly optimistic to hope he can play C or PF in the NBA. Even the hypesters say he can't defend and doesn't rebound well because he dislikes heavy contact - his slender frame makes that quite believeable. He says himself that he likes playing on the perimeter. On the other hand, I can imagine a typical NBA SF having a field day against him, too. And don't forget he's already 22 years old so he's proably close to physical maturity. To me he sounds like Dan Langhi all over again, right down to his shooting touch. Someone posted in here, recently, 2 years of his stats in Euroleauge play - 9/42 or 21% shooting 3 pointers.

Barbosa's hype, at least, says the right stuff - a good defender, fast, and likes to penetrate. We have to take it with a grain of salt but if it's close to the mark he'll be a very good fit. With his reported 'wing span' he should be able to defend most SGs, so he could play alongside Marbs if that's desireable on other counts.

Overall, the Suns drafting the last two years has been 'defeatist' in a sense - it's like our guys don't believe it's possible to get a decent inside player after the tenth pick so they pick only perimeter players. So we parlay three late picks in the two deepest drafts of recent years into one good sounding PG and two weak defending. questionable long range shooters while passing on guys like Boozer, Gadzuric, Lampe, and Cook, among others. Better they take a flyer on someone like Shortsiantis then leave Amare all alone in the paint.

Why do people keep talking about Lampe? I thought it had been established several times over that had the Suns drafted him they would not have been able to get him over here anytime in the foreseeable future. His buyout is around $2 million. An NBA team can offer only $300,000 towards that buyout, and his salary at #17 would have been just over $800,000. According to the Phoenix Suns own scout before the draft he is at least a couple years away from producing in the NBA, and finally is about as athletic as Jake Tsakalidis. I don't think drafting him was an option, and neither did the 12 other teams that passed on him after the Suns.

Schortsanitis also dropped like a rock. So did Carlos Boozer and others last year, but they were 4-year college players. This guy is extremely raw and reportedly going to struggle just to stay in games because of foul trouble. He may end up being a very good NBA player, but he couldn't have shown too much in his workouts since so many teams needing a big power forward passed on him.

I was also one of the guys saying Zarko seems like another Dan Langhi. I brought up his three-point percentage last year as an example. However I thought I had read somewhere that minus last year's three-point shooting he actually had made 40% of his 3-point shots. I don't know where to find the previous seasons' stats to verify though.

Lastly, I thought the biggest problem with Casey Jacobsen's outside shooting last season was that he took for too long to get his shot off. I really doubt that will be a problem for a seven footer on the perimeter.

Hopefully he will ease some of our worries in the summer league games.

It's only been 5 days, and already the bitching and moaning is getting old.

There's only 2 solutions:

1) Suck it up and wait and see how he turns out, because you, me, anybody has NO CLUE what is going to happen in a month.

2) Find another team to root for. You don't like our drafts, you don't like our coach--what's the point?

Or there's a third option. Continue to voice your opinion about the team in any way you see fit. Especially in the professional manner in which you do. Because after all, this is a message board where all opinions are appreciated.

Oh yeah, thanks for that, sahib. :D

Good work putting me in my place.

Opinions or no, it accomplishes nothing to whine about things without at elast trying to come up with some kind of solution, right, Dave? :D

You read it as whining I read it as a guy expressing his opinion. I just think that the whole "find another team to root for" response is lame.

Errntknight has doubts about Cabarkapa. He expressed it. What's wrong with it?

I completely agree with schutd and I simply don't see where is the problem if someone writes his opinion in an intelligent post.

What a bunch of losers you guys are. Negativity sucks--it's the worst thing EVER. And I'm positive he's ALWAYS negative about everything.

:D

(just kidding, for those of you that don't get it)

I've got doubts about Carbarkapa, but I'm willing to give him a chance. The Suns organization has obviously seen something in this guy to make him think he was the best option when other guys were still on the board. Sure he needs to put on at least 15-25 lbs of muscle in the next 3 months or so, but if he's here working out with the Suns strength trainers then that can be accomplished. He must have a good attitude and be willing to work hard or the Suns wouldn't have taken him.

I don't know about this Zarko character. The only thing I know about him that's positive is that his name is really similar to Darko's.. but then again, I don't know much about him either.

What I do know, however, is that the Suns have recently been very, very good at selecting draft picks. From Finley to Nash to Marion to Stoudemire, you have to be impressed with what the Suns have been able to do with medium level first round picks. I have a good feeling that at least one of our two picks in this year's draft will turn out to be very good basketball players.
