Caldwell can leave to become a DC on another team---a.k.a. a promotion. The Cardinals would have to give him permission, but typically teams do not stand in the way when a coach is offered a promotion.

Right.. Unless of course Caldwell is their man to replace Bowles.

Unless you're the Steelers and don't offer permission for other teams to give Keith Butler a promotion.

I'm pretty sure in the past that I remember the Cards denying some coaches the opportunity to leave.

Right...except that Butler didn't want to leave.

Why was it being reported then as the Steelers not giving permission rather than Butler saying no? Also it seems weird that Whiz would ask so much if Butler really didn't want to leave.

Could the lapses in defense the last two weeks be related to Bowles being distracted?

Short answer, no. The defensive lapses came because the personnel was just beat down. In fact, the defense played admirably in Carolina. They were just fighting a losing battle.

Sounds like it would be vic fangio

Fangio would be a monster get for this team if Bowles were to leave. Easily the best option if he could be had as DC considering his track record and what he did with the defense this year despite so many injures on the niners defense.

Wrong. Franchises can prevent a coach under contract from leaving for all but head coach positions. Not the coolest thing to do, but it happens from time to time.

I believe I read The Cards have already done that this year though no names were released

K9 is def right and Arians already said last week that he's not letting Bowles take anyone.

Ex-Steeler DC Dick LeBeau might be a strong candidate.

Two immediate thoughts on Dick LeBeau. He and Bruce Arians are tight. Would be a top option if Todd Bowles gets a head coaching job...

>> RT @DOrlandoAJC: McDaniels is staying in New England. #Falcons might not wait for Quinn. Makes Bowles leading candidate at this juncture.

Really hope the cards can snag Fangio if Bowles takes off for the Falcons job.

Fangio would be a pretty damn good hire if we lost Bowles.

Do we really want a 77 yr old coach who's defenses haven't been all that for several seasons now?

I wonder if he would come in as a special assistant like Tom Moore? At 77 I can't imagine wanting to start over with that level of responsibility. Nice weather, little golf - semi retirement.

Wouldn't he be bringing back the same System Ray Horton installed?
I recall Dockett wasn't sad to see Horton leave.
