Interesting that according to this report, Bowles has Freddie Kitchens in mind as his OC. Not sure whether that helps Bowles' chances. Not that Kitchens isn't capable, but he's untested and unproven.

but with the weapons they also me and u could be offensive coordinator for the falcons
thats the reason they are looking for a great and innovative defensive head coach

Do we really want a 77 yr old coach who's defenses haven't been all that for several seasons now?

Any shortcomings in the Pittsburgh defense have to do with aging players who haven't been replaced well. An aging Polamalu hasn't helped.

The things Lebeau could do with Honey Badger and Buccanon, and hopefully a re-dedicated D Wash have some fantastic potential.

My thought is we have some younger guys who could succeed Bowles, but having LeBeau come in for a couple years before he retires to add to their experience and knowledge base while maintaining a high level NOW would set the team up for a long, long time on the defensive coaching side.

todd bowles all but gone

Scott Pioli and Bowles are still tight and its looks as if at any moment now Todd B is going to be working for arty blank.

Vic fangio or someone from within the system, how long before the cardinals get someone in place? Will this affect darnell dockets extention ( I think it does).

I think that Atlanta team will be totally sick with a Bowles defense and their already solid offense. I can see them running away with that division.

How do you figure Dockett is affected by this? I don't see it.

I would love to see us pick up Fangio. Rumor is that Bowles will be taking the Cardinals LB coach Mike Caldwell with him to serve as DC.

With Arians recently talking about a 'coaching tree', it sounds like he wants to promote from within. Maybe Brentson Buckner? Nick Rapone?

Not sure how good rest of our defensive coaches are. But if they are good, we can't put a clause so Bowels cannot take them with him?

always quick to jump the gun.

If he does leave I am sure we bring someone in quickly. If the DC we bring is more of a pitt 3-4 instead of a parcells 3-4, dockett could have less incentive to stay as then he would be an occupy blockers guy vs a rush the QB guy again. He didn't love being an occupy blockers guy.

word on the street is arians is denying Bowles to take anyone from cardinals staff....he has made that publically known.

Dockett is affected in that he was utilized best in bowles system ( at least he feels that way) and I fear that reverting to a ray hortan/dick lebeau defense would deter him from taking a pay cut and staying wioth the team long term

Yeah, I think we have enough talent on defense that with a demanding, intelligent defensive coach, we will stay successful. It is never a bad thing to have a guy who is as knowledgable as LeBeau around. Same with Fangio out of San Fran. Both would be solid guys.

I like Dockett, but I'm not choosing a DC who is building around him. Take the guy who is gonna do what you want, and force him to make the players work.

My hope in all of this is that Mathieu gets moved to a nickel/slot CB role or 3rd S role. I think that is where he is most useful, and where he can stay healthy.

Keep in mind that Arians only hires guys he has coached as assistants. So if you're looking for someone from the outside, peel away all the "hot" candidates and look at guys who played at Temple 20 years ago or players for the Browns a decade ago and Steelers five years ago.

Some around the league continue to believe Jim Tomsula, despite no report of a formal interview, is the front-runner for the 49ers’ job.

If Tomosula is hired I think Fangio will be available since I doubt he will like being passed over by a position coach on the niners.

I heard Clayton the other day saying he thought Bowles was the favorite in Chicago too.

Problem is that's its a different 3-4 that relies on faster somewhat smallers OLBs which we don't have right now.

I'm not totally against the move, but it might have to be addressed again in 2 yrs because he's 77 yrs old. Gimmie Fangio or someone younger & proven because of age that's all I'm sayin.

Different 3-4 yes. The OLB's aren't necessarily smaller though. Lamar Woodley 6'2 265...Alex Okafor 6'3 260...about the same measurables as far as speed and agility. Problem is, Okafor is probably our most talented OLB. We need to improve the stable of talent at OLB. LeBeau can definitely help in identifying potential talent there. Size isn't necessarily the issue, it's talent period.

In LeBeau's system though, believe it or not, the key people in his base 3-4 are the middle triangle. The NT and the 2 ILBs. If DWash comes back (changed for the better I hope) and we land someone like David Harris, and we resign Dan Williams, we'd have a great foundation. Okafor is serviceable as the Woodley type player.

The bigger problem is finding the DE's needed to effectively execute his style of 3-4 as the ones we have are better suited for the 1 gap.

I love LeBeau and think he could be a great pickup at DC in the short term, BUT...I think he would serve us better in an advisory role in the long term. Unless he is able to adapt to a 1 gap system.

Man, if the Cards signed Fangio, and then signed Patrick Willis when the 49ers cut him, that would awesome.
