Where do you come to the conclusion that he is garbage?

How many years has this guy been a DC for a top rated defense? Is his name Jeff Fisher, Wade Phillips, Dom Capers or any other top DC in the last twenty years. No. This guy is a nobody from left field and the only reason he is being hired is because he is another Pittsburgh connection.

We are getting a defensive backs coach as our big name DC. His name isn't Dom Capers or Wade Phillips or any other real DC name that anyone has heard of. How many years has this guy been a DC? What has this guy ever done to have a name for himself as a DC. I will tell you, nothing. This hire is a joke. I would just as soon hire someone from this board then hire Horton. I just hope and pray that Dallas steps in and hires him before we do.

One more thing. The one weakness that the Steelers have on defense is the defensive backs. Ask yourself this question. Have you ever even heard of this guy as a top coach before the last couple of months. I know I haven't.

Dude you have lost your ever loving mind!

So what you are saying is only a big name would satisfy you?

So your comment from a few weeks ago no longer applies - "Neither Greene now Butler have either, but at least they have been with two top DC's for a while to learn." http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2396872&postcount=3

That is just all out the window now?

So "but at least they have been with two top DC's for a while to learn." comment only applies to Greene and Butler?

Just a few weeks ago you seemed not ecstatic but OK with a DC coming from a good DC coaching tree. When did that change?

Did you know the names "Jeff Fisher, Wade Phillips, Dom Capers" before they became top DC's over the last 20 years?

Anyone that says they were looking for Ray Horton as our Defensive Coordinator is utterly lying to themselves. The hits just keep on coming for this joke of a coaching staff and joke of a front office.

Ummm they obviously had him in mind. As they did ask for permission. Pretty straight forward really. He is obviously highly regarded around league.

I'm OK with Horton, but not exactly doing back flips. If the Offense doesn't improve, it really doesn't matter who's coaching the D!!

Okay, enough of my argument against him. Tell me why we should hire a guy that has no experience as a DC.

Because everyone has to start somewhere. Seriously this has to be the single stupidest argument ever made. If we go by this logic then there would never be a single DC in the history of the NFL since there has never been a great DC available for hire for the first teams.

It's not like Horton's name just popped up today. I remember hearing his name a few weeks ago... And Horton has been coaching under Lebeau longer than Butler (right?)...

How does anyone get hired if they don't have experience as a DC? If teams only hired experienced DC's no one would ever become a DC.

They would just all die off.;)

Actually brought up his name a month ago. Knew about him way before then as well. Knew about him since Tomlin first hired him because Labeau was bringing him around both as a player and coach, at some point to where Labeau landed a job.

Oh, and why should we go after the big name DC? They obviously have sucked at some point to even be available.

Please stop it, the logic is making my head hurt!!!!!

I didn't really want Greene or Butler either. The one positive thing that both of them possess is that they are good with linebackers and the number one thing in a 3-4 defense is the play of the linebackers. And yes I want a DC that has alot of experience as a DC and has made a name for himself. I don't think that is too much to ask for on the NFL level.

LOL, I really hope Whiz gets a DC that can improve this defense, he already resisted getting an OC to help out with the offense.

He is letting Grimm sleep on the couch (while paying him) because nobody else wanted Grimm, including most Card fans.

The offense is going to be rough next year, Defense is where we can improve.
I had faith in Whiz getting Lebeau or Butler the way he let other DCs fly by our radar.
I wouldn't mind Horton, but I won't be as hopeful as I would with the other Steeler coaches that Whiz and others made sound possible. If we don't get Horton, Moss will probably go somewhere else too.

I hope we get Horton, but he wasn't my first or second choice from the Steelers, and that's just one team. Whiz's future depends on the improvements the team makes next year. He doesn't act like it sometimes.

Second best, maybe even third if Lebeau would have entertained an offer. We simply waited to long for who we wanted and got stuck with who was left. I do not expect much improvement on that side of the ball and will be figuring on us involved in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes next Draft season. Pathetic by any measureing stick IMO. Should never have locked on to Butler and looked more seriously at the available candidates that are now gone. We all know Horton was no ones first choice as a DC.

:biglaugh: No kidding.

"How come none of these teams have Defensive Coordinators anymore?"

"All them died. There isn't anyone who's ever been a Defensive Coordinator before."

Again, how do you make a name for yourself if you never actually get to make a name for your self? If you are letting another team do the experimenting then you probably wont get to sign him because The ones that do make a name for themselves either stay a really long time with their team, retire, become a head coach, or get fired for having not done a good job (meaning they have huge wrinkles).

Actually we have an OC. Miller is being groomed the same way Whiz groomed Haley.
