Now this is beyond ridiculous..Now Horton going to the Cowgirls???And the Steelers did have a clause in Butlers contract.
The Steelers reportedly blocked the Cardinals from interviewing LBs coach Keith Butler for their defensive coordinator job.
The Rooney family is simply protecting its investment here. After handing Butler a hefty raise in response to the Cardinals' and Dolphins' interest last season, they placed a clause in his contract allowing them to deny permission for an interview elsewhere.

Whiz is starting to look a little dumb now.

Why? Because Steelers didn't grant him permission on Butler?

We don't even know where Horton fits on his wish list. They asked for permission on 3 coaches - Butler, Moss, and Horton according to Somers.

We don't even know what rumors out there right now are for real yet. Yet we can safely assume what Wiz wants or has asked for?

The only thing we can be sure of is Butler considering we tried two times prior to this.

They didn't need a clause for that. If a coach is under contract a team must be given permission to interview someone for a position unless that position is as a Head Coach.

I hope Moss is still a option. ;)

Horrible wording by that source. They didn't need to add a clause. It is in every coaches contract. Unless its a HC job any team can deny permission.

That clause in that source is not the same clause as the "coordinator in waiting clause" hat has been discussed. Of which the man himself said he did not have.

My only concern with Horton is that if the Steelers had one weakness on defense, it was the secondary.

1. Need to clear up last tweet. Ray Horton has offers on table to be Dallas DBs coach, and also has offer to be Arizona's D coordinator ...

Horton hears a job offer from the Cowboys

Just minutes after a radio report surfaced in Arizona that the Cardinals were ready to hire Steelers secondary coach Ray Horton as their coordinator, there is news that Horton has a job offer with the Cowboys.
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports Horton has left to take a position with the Cowboys, presumably under coordinator Rob Ryan. (UPDATE: La Canfora has corrected his initial report, saying Horton has an offer on the table from both the Cowboys are Cardinals.) We mentioned earlier that there were conflicting reports about the Arizona hire.
The Cardinals reportedly requested permission to speak with Horton, Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler, and Packers inside linebackers coach Winston Moss. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic has confirmed the Steelers denied the Cardinals permission to speak with Butler.
UPDATE II: Somers says there’s “no way” Horton is going to Dallas. He’s scheduled to interview with the Cardinals on Wednesday.

This just in from JasonLacanfora on twitter:

1. More Horton: Ray Horton has an interview scheduled with the Cards. The Cowboys are pursuing him. A third team could be involved as well

Ike Taylor is very good, as are Polumalu and Clark. McFadden was a problem, but what I like about it is that if you are going to coach safeties, then you have to understand what pretty much every position on the offense and defense are doing, and be able to make a diagnosis and a response immediately.

It's a much more cerebral position (safety) than any other except for offensive center and QB, IMO.

If Butler really wants us he can just resign and let us sign him...

Hopefully the Cardinals finally win one of these pursuits. If Ray-Ray is in this much demand is he really such a lousy option? Or is this just his agent pumping up the price? Or both?

No...if he resigns he'll have to sit out the year.

On a side note, it was apparently Steelers ownership that told Butler he can't interview, not Steelers coaches per Jurecki.
