With the signing of Mathis, looks like the Cards will be running the ball a lot next year. Need to get CJ signed for backup insurance.

Other teams have requested visits with RB Chris Johnson but unlikely he makes them at this point. Expects to pick between Miami and Arizona

With the 2 guards we now have, he should strongly consider coming back. How's Miami's OL?

I would rather draft a back in the 5th or 6th round. Best chance of hitting on those picks seem to be running backs.

They will be cheaper, and possibly better, and can be around to be a replacement for ellington

Ill take CJ happily as the proven vet behind DJ. Once he hangs them up DJ can be the vet and put a rookie behind him.

That's my thinking too. We really need a big physical back behind DJ. Not saying DJ isn't physical, but should he miss any games our RB corps is too lightweight. Unless we plan to give DJ 30 touches per game and run him into the ground, we need a big back who can punish the defense and churn out 1 yard when 1 yard is needed.

CJ2K is a great pass protector, but in terms of catching passes he is really weak and he is not the biggest back. To complement a great all around back like DJ we need a thunder who can punish and a lightning who can catch. We have the lightning in Ellington but nobody for short yardage and to burn the clock at the end of games. Also a 5th round draft pick would come much cheaper than CJ2K.

I'm sure he's aware of that. I think he mentioned it in the exit interview if I remember correctly.

Except that 5th or 6th round rookie will rarely be ready to come in and understand the offense, scheme and most importantly, pass protection like CJ.

I wasn't gonna shed any tears if he wasn't signed, but glad he's back.

Because traditionally, rookies struggle with the scheme and pass protection. Also because CJ came in and quickly picked up the protection schemes to contribute almost right away.

Keim has shown that he knows how to find RBs who can get on the field immediately in the mid and late rounds of the draft with DJ and Ellington, no?

DJ didn't get on the field right away tho, did he? He had to learn the protections and wasn't ready to step in day one.

But I think if you look over the last two decades or so, RB is probably the easiest position to hit a home run with rookies who are drafted late or even free agents.

On the other hand, I do remember Palmer telling a story about CJ last year in his first full practice with the Cards. They are running some drill, and the back in front of CJ does it the wrong way. Palmer said most new players would just copy the guy in front. But, CJ had the confidence to do it right and it was an immediate coaching point for the guy in front of him. He never said who that was, but it easily could've been DJ.

CJ will make the perfect back up for Dj. I like this combination of running backs better than any I have seen here in AZ. Ellington can be the speed back that takes the top off the defense on occasion and is a threat to receive out of the back field. I liken this trio to Czonka, Quick, and Mercury Morris with the Phins back in the day.

DJ and CJ are smart, savvy, explosive, tough, and can make the first guy miss to turn any 5 yarder into a 30 yarder at any time. Neither is a risk for ball security. If Ellington puts his mind into the game. he can be the guy who can potentially take any carry to the house. With the added pieces on the O'line, there is no reason why this trio can't be the best in the NFL this year. Their only drawback is that none offer any special teams help. Steve Keim continues to rock my world!
