It sucks what happened to Goldschmidt.... that said, it was disgraceful that Gibson had McCutcheon hit for retaliation. What happened to Goldy was obviously an accident. No way in hell does anyone try to hit a guy in that situation. The pitch wasn't even that far inside.

It's been a bad season, but that was the low point for me. Goldy's injury and the classless move by Gibson.

I missed the ninth. Didn't see it, but I thought Gibby was in the showers?

When Steve asked Bob Brenly about the whereabouts of a Manager who gets ejected from a game, BB said that the ejected Manager is usually just down the tunnel a bit and still calls the shots.

He said that when he was Manager and was ejected, he even had a TV set up for him so he could see the action on the field.

BB made no reference to an ejected Manager heading to the showers.

And remember, it was General Manager Kevin Towers who said in the offseason that his pitchers needed more of an eye-for-an-eye mentality when it comes to protecting their own.

It sounds like the dynamic duo of Towers and Gibson were indeed involved. The GM for announcing it and the Manager for executing it.

This is just another example that the two of them are just not cool in the execution of their jobs. And Bench Coach Trammell goes along for the ride.

It wasn't classless... The only gripe I have is that they waited until the 9th inning to do it. Goldy - who is now gone for the rest of the season, was not hit intentionally. However, that doesn't matter. Baseball has always been about protecting your guys... The message had to be sent to the Pirates that if you want to come inside on our guys, you better do it carefully.
This is baseball 101... But again, it was stupid to wait so long in the game to hit Cutch...

Agreed. This is back to back seasons that a Pirate pitcher has broken a D-Backs player's hand (A. Hill). NOBODY pitches in to Goldy, everyone pitches to him down and away. That said, They should have gotten McCutchen sooner. I also knew that was coming and I told my wife I didn't want to see it happen, I have too much respect for McCutchen. I wanted to see Martin get drilled.

Trumbo's at first. Cahill on the mound. That's all I got.

Pirates have hit 61 batters this year. 13 more than next highest team

What a crappy team. Have we brought up our Reno AAA league team?? The organization is in total chaos.

At least Montero made the All Star game. With Gosewich in there today you're spot-on.

I think the goal for the rest of the year is to try and get the #1 pick in next year's draft.

Yep. And given the point in the game when Goldy got hit, there was no reason to be pitching him that far inside... The game was essentially over. The Dbacks did the right thing, just way too late...

Huge D-Backs fan, but that was total garbage. An embarrasing way to win a game.

Reminded me of the A-Rod play down the first base line years back.

I want the D-Backs to win, but not like that. That was bush league.

The second baseman could have easily avoided that. Go watch any slide into 2nd in a double play ball, they all look exactly like that

With the runner's hand straight up in the air?

@BertDbacks: #Dbacks RT/@azc_zachb: Crew chief Ron Kulpa: "It has to have been willful and deliberate with obvious intent to break up a double play..." Kulpa cont'd: "Guys slide into second base all the time with their hands up.”

Textbook slide man. First thing your taught in little league is how to slide

I don't want to turn this into a debate, I just want to say how many thousands of games I've watched, including on the t.v., live, and on the field. I don't recall ever seeing that. Yes, I've seen slides like that a kajillion times but not with that result.

To me, it's cheating and bush league.

The bolded is exactly what it was. A-rod style.

We can agree to disagree, that's perfectly fine.

Besides, I never have a problem watching Hurdle whine. It's pathetic, but entertaining.

A-Rod intentionally knocked the ball out of Arroyo's glove, Ahmed just put up his arm like most runners do when they slide.

Reggie Jackson intentionally used his body to have the ball hit him and they did not call him out in the 1978 World Series.

The call stands. The game is over. The D-backs win. The call went our way.

But this isn't basketball where a runner can put his hand straight up in the air to "block a shot".

Why would it be any different than a Catcher putting his mitt in the way of the batter swinging at the ball? It is interference.

Ballsy play by Ahmed. His team is on offense and he made the defensive play of the game. I wish our coaching staff were as creative as our rookies. :)
