I mean I disagreed with the suspension in the first place. It is the job of the judicary system to judge Washington for what he has done, not the NFLs business.

I never understood why the NFL should ban a player for a year when the judicary punishment is 30 days in jail or even less than that.

Your issue is with the NFLPA. These are NFLPA bylaws for marijuana.

I can't bring myself to trust this guy.

You dont have to trust him. Just like you dont have to like somebody you work with. Simon and Garfunkel hated each other.

Heres the deal:
if he screws up again, he's perma-banned. So as an angry fan, youll have your bloodshed.

And If he doesnt screw up again, we can get several good years out of the guy. You dont have to like him. You dont have to trust him. But he can still win us games.

I don't care. If it was my daughter who got smacked by the guy that would be it. Sends a bad message to men who abuse women. I take one of my daughters to games. Not willing to look her in the eye and say it's OK to support this guy because he plays for our team.
Fitz gets a pass?

Let me rephrase that. How does Keim and MB trust him. DW flat out lied and stole Millions of dollars from them.

Black athletes are being more critically looked at compared to white athletes, is there any question about that? Particularly those who fit black stereotypes that the general public has. Cam Newton would be one example of that, imagine if Newton messes up what the reaction would be. I mean that is a phenomenon that is not exclusive to athletes, that is a problem in society in general.
I am not following too closely but I have read a lot of dubious stuff about Gronkowski yet he seems to be a darling in the eye of many.

If you present yourself publically as the "nice guy" or "mainstream sophisticatedguy", you are more likely to get a pass when you mess up, see Fitz.

My general opinion is that teams should focus only on the sport and let authorities handle everything else. Washington is free and able to play and under contract? Sure, see what he has in the tank.

I fully acknowledge that those kinds of stereotypes occur. You know where I stand on most social issues. However, you just did the EXACT same thing and assumed that if you are harsh on D-Wash you must be a bible thumper or racist.

You do realize how hypocritical that is right?

They dont have to trust him either. Its about usage, not relationship. They can hate him and still play him.

Thats why I say dont make an emotional decision. I trust BASK to approach this from a business standpoint. Can the guy help us win? Thats all that matters.

His crimes are not unforgivable. Even Tyrann got kicked out of LSU. BA himself got booted from school for substance.

I genuinely dont think DWash is a bad person. I think he can be redeemed. If he screws up again, its a perma-ban. So its really no-risk for us.

I'm torn, realistically I think it's a long shot that he can be any good after 3 years out of football. But he was also one of my favorite players at that time. I'd like to see it work out but I doubt it. Fun to watch though

I don't think that MB feels that way after paying Washington a $10M bonus for 0 games of production. It was a business decision to keep him on the roster the last three years and push out that bonus on the cap.

You only paid him $10M for 0 games if you cut him.

Time froze when he got suspended, so he can start justifying that contract and earning his pay week 1 2017 just as if it were week 1 2013.

He paid that money for a 27 year old DW, not a 31-year-old DW who hasn't played football in three years.

Thats the perspective of fat fans. Non-pro athletes. Mere mortals.

Ron Wolfley this morning himself said DWash hasnt been taking that beating for 3 years, so he should walk in here physically as a 27 year old still. He is still athletically elite.

And for the record, 31 is not old. Mo Farah won 2 Olympic track marathon golds at 34. Serena Williams, dominant, 35. I could list 100 more 30+ year olds who are the #1's in their respective sports.

Not to get political, but this is small potatoes in comparison to the billions we give the monsters in politics who are way, way worse and far more dangerous and destructive.

Capitalism is not about morals.
Agreed. But if that's the counter argument it's akin to ignoring the concept of two wrongs don't make either right. Bad people getting paid.

Are any of those sports football? Because I could give two farts about sports that aren't football where people excelled. How is performance after 32 in esports? Endurance athletes like marathoners are a completely different beast than explosive athletes.

Here's what Football Outsiders found when looking at something called data:

FootballOutsiders said:
Running backs usually decline after age 28, tight ends
after age 29, wide receivers after age 30, and quarterbacks
after age 32.

This research was originally done by Doug Drinen (editor
of pro-football-reference.com) in 2000. In recent years, a few
players have had huge seasons above these general age limits,
but the peak ages Drinen found a few years ago still apply to
the majority of players.

As for “non-skill players,” research we did in 2007 for ESPN
The Magazine suggested that defensive ends and defensive
backs generally begin to decline after age 29, linebackers and
offensive linemen after age 30, and defensive tackles after age
31. However, because we still have so few statistics to use to
study linemen and defensive players, this research should not
be considered definitive.

True.

But, does the world care about morals? Or do they just care about the ones that do not effect them and only protects them? Or maybe only up until they get the opportunity to get rich for doing something "bad"?

LOL. I think a lawyer and engineer are going outside their comfort zone.

Guys who deteriorate at 30 have 3+ years of wear and tear that DWash doesnt have.

Agreed, especially what is in bold.

I am not a Cam Newton fan, but I think he gets WAY too much flack, and I also believe that is because of his race more than anything. Yes, he can have a poor attitude, but not more or less then what I have seen before.

Just do not think this applies to Daryl Washington, and even if there is part of this that does, it is completely overtaken by his grotesque (and I feel that word is validated in this case) dishonesty.

And three more years of experience that DWash also doesn't have.

The dumbness of that statement, good googily moogily.

DWash has been playing football since he was 10. He was good enough to where he was put into a football factory high school. He was an all-state player then, and earned a full ride to an elite program like TCU where he was an elite performer to the point he got taken in the 2nd round of the NFL draft. He was then an elite performer to the point where he an All-Pro selection, as one of the best LBs in football. Meaning he was the best of the best. Thats ~15 years of consistent elite performance.

And you think in 3 years he will have forgotten how to play football?

and we may get a DWASH who has matured and takes the game and life seriously...who teams with Dansby who has found a fountain of youth and can mentor DWASH. It is all perspective. I love the possibilities and I hope we(as Cards fans) get the opportunity to see what he has left. If he is 80 percent the player he was...he is better than Deone and he could fill the Swearinger/Jefferson role. This is exactly what I hope happens.

IMO if that even happened, it would probably be next year. The cardinals are not going to put him in the preseason starting unit when he isnt even fully reinstated yet.

No offense, but you're twisting it around a bit on the bible thumper part. His original statement is below and it was a general one. Not sure why you decided to take offense with it, but it's not accusing the people being harsh on DWash as being bible thumpers, but rather that the known bible thumpers are having a hard time with forgiveness and redemption. At least that's how it read to me when I first saw his post.

The amusing double standard by the bible thumpers.

He served his punishment, therefore I see no problem giving him his chance.

Im not fooled by anything. I dont trust the guy. The difference is I dont make emotional decisions. I dont have to like the guy, or trust him, to recognize he can help us win, if he stays clean.

I dont feel his crimes are unforgivable.
