These guys do seem worn out, but I still think they can do something in the first round at least. I would be satisfied with a division title and a first round loss though for the year. At least with some pennant race and postseason experience, these guys will be better prepared for when we really have a contender

Which starting pitcher traded at the deadline would have been of help to us now? How many of the starting pitchers that got ridiculous contracts last summer would you actually want?
Why does it have to be a pitcher at the deadline? Or a hitter at the deadline? How long have we known that the rotation was suspect? The offense we have know about the entire season. Started out the season with a ton of home runs, but the problem was that the ONLY way we were scoring was via the home run. The DBacks got hot and rose to the division lead and have been around it most of the season. Why wait for the dregs? Because that was the plan. Spend no money. Hope for support from the fans anyway. We already have three other professional teams in the valley taking the same approach. Too tired to follow along with the fourth....

Just my opinion. Not trying to deflate anyone. Just wondering what everyone else sees other than a nice season by an understaffed team. I give congrats to the players and even some to the coaches, but I would rather not have BoMel stick around much longer.

It doesn't have to be at the deadline, but that and the start of free agency are the busiest times of the year when it comes to transactions so that's typically where a team is going to find their missing pieces. But since you make it sound so easy for the Diamondbacks to get what they need, surely you have some idea of who feasibly they could have gone after?

As soon as you say "feasibly", you already have your out planned. So when I say Teixiera, you say - "not feasible." If I say try to pry away an Oswalt, for instance, you say "not feasible". The point is, we can't look at transactions that were made and say that those were the only possibilities. This isn't basketball where the one superstar is the key to the team which makes 30 "untouchables". We can only look at what WAS done and say that it didn't get done for the DBacks. I am working on the concrete side in this instance, in my opinion.

Time to take my frustration to bed. Good night and better luck tomorrow.

Using the word feasible is hardly an out. Otherwise, what's the point of saying "they should have gone after Oswalt (or whoever else, just using your example)" when you know that he wasn't available? If you're going to claim that the team should have gone after somebody, then shouldn't there be an expectation that it is reasonable for them to do so? The reason why the Diamondbacks didn't go after anybody isn't due to being inept or unreasonably cheap, butw as due to the fact that there really wasn't anybody worth chasing. Which pitchers have been moved this year? Matt Morris and Kyle Lohse? How about a lackluster Barry Zito for $126M? Or $42M for Jeff Suppan? No, thanks. It may be a cliche, but its absolutely true that many times its the deals a team doesn't make that are all the difference.

PLEASE list some players you think the Dbacks should've targeted that were 1. either rumored to be available, or would be possibly logically available, or 2. was a free agent that you thought wasn't overpaid.

You can sit around being abstract saying the Dbacks should've done more, but with out being specific you just sound like you are being a whiner. Sure, this team has a lot of deficiencies, but if in Spring Training, someone told you they'd be in first on September 18th wouldn't you have said "I'll take it!" The fact that the Dbacks are competitive, much less division leading while starting usually 6 or so rookies a game is an amazing feet.

Melvin you idiot get pena out now... and yeah lyon should have came in after pena allowed to guys on
That's true. A hit batsman, a four-pitch walk and a 3-run homer, with Lyon warming in the bullpen. But Melvin left Pena in to give up two more, and put the game out of reach.

Apparently there was only one person who didn't realize that Pena had nothing going for him . . . and it was the Manager. Why? He must be held accountable.

The bigger picture is Bob Melvin's approach to choosing a batting order. It looks like -- throw a bunch of baseball cards in the air and see how they land that night. The next night, do it again.

Drew bats 8th. Drew bats leadoff. Drew bats in the heart of the order. Drew bats 8th. Drew bats leadoff. Etc. And, oh yeah, Drew bats in the .220's.

But what gets me the most is the amount of popups we hit, one after the other. It seems that most of our team is trying to put the ball into the air on every pitch. It's a low percentage swing.

Live by the homerun try. Die by the homerun try.

At least Mark Reynolds has been thinking for himself lately and taking easier swings. And it paid off. Good for you, Mark. Don't let Melvin ruin your career as he (and his mentor Bob Brenly) have done to so many other young Diamondbacks.

Am I drunk, or is this the first time they've had the "DB" logo behind home plate? I like the idea, but I think I'd prefer it to be the "A" logo (which is a bit underused w/ the "D" now being on the hats).

That's the first time I noticed it too, and that's my least favorite of the many new logos.

So now we're tied with the Pods in the loss column. 11 games left for us, 13 left for them. Whoever loses the fewest times wins the division.

Beat the Giants!

O-Dog is awesome. Dbacks are up 4-0 early.

I wonder if Owings is in the race for the Silver Slugger award this year? Is there a minimum ABs for that for pitchers? He's batting 288 (higher now since he just got a double) w/ 4 doubles and 4 HRs.

Holy ****! The DBACKS SUCKK! Only winning 5-0 showing no heart at all.

Tony Gwynn saying we'd miss the playoffs...hah. 4.5 games ahead of the Dodgers probably with like 11 games left right? It would take a total meltdown.

A 2-hit shutout, facing 28 batters -- one over the minimum. Wow.

'Looks like his transition to RF is on hold. (Don't get excited, folks. That was just in my imagination.)

BTW, back in the '50's, big Don Newcombe led the Dodgers pitching staff with a record of 27-7 . . . and was their #1 pinch hitter with an average somewhere around .350. Awesome.

nice bounceback from the previous night's eighth inning meltdown. Keep it going tomorrow boys... one more little spurt probably makes us a lock for at least the wild card! (who the hell thought they'd be able to say that with ten games left in the season?!)
