Didn't Campanella get hit by a car?
Here is the full story.

Campanella lived in Glen Cove, New York, on the North Shore of Long Island, while operating a liquor store in Harlem between regular-season games and during the off-season. On January 28, 1958, after closing the store for the night, he began his drive to his home in Glen Cove.

En route, traveling at about 30 mph (48 km/h), his car, a rented 1957 Chevrolet sedan, hit a patch of ice at an S-curve on Dosoris Lane near Apple Tree Lane, skidded into a telephone pole and overturned, breaking Campanella's neck. He fractured the fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae and compressed the spinal cord.

The accident left Campanella paralyzed from the shoulders down. Through physical therapy, he eventually was able to regain substantial use of his arms and hands. He was able to feed himself, shake hands, and gesture while speaking, but he would require a wheelchair for mobility for the remainder of his life.

Can't wait for Montero to have an MVP season. That will rule.

You'd think considering his contract is the largest in franchise history the expectation of an MVP season would be there. After all we are talking RJ territory here.
It's good for him the fans don't hold those expectations because he'd be getting a lot of flack right now. Defense only C are fungible and not worth $60M over 5 years. Lets hope this isn't a long term issue cause right now our offense isn't as solid as it should be and our top paid position player isn't helping to turn it around and it might be costing us games.

Agree. I can't see what others do in terms of him being ready to break out of slump. He doesn't look comfortable at all. Looks closer to needing to take a few days off than go on a tear.

82, in your honor, I was thinking to myself if a team had ever won anything with a catcher hitting sub .200. :)

Not sub .200 but sub .220.

Both PHI in 2008 (Ruiz was part time, but still starter) and STL in 2006 (23 yr old Yadier) but neither were being paid $10M. They were both making league minimum.

Dammit, I wanted to ask that question! Ok, ok... How bout this one: I wonder if a team has ever won anything with a #1 pitcher having a sub .500 record AND a bullpen leading the league in blown saves AND a league worst team average with RISP and 2 Outs AND a third baseman with a sub .250 average AND a catcher with a sub .200 average?? :)

LOL... Yea, I guess he is... Sometimes...

So, how 'bout that tremendous move by Towers?? For 3 bills, Chavez is a steal! Or, at least that's what my eyes are telling me anyway! :)

A steal if you manage to keep a bat in his hands. Seems to lose value when you trade that bat for a glove though. :(

I'd call it a good pick up, but not a steal. He was a steal last year at $900K

Can't argue with that... Even though I'd like to! :)

If fans liked the Upton trade more (or if he had not hit So many home runs this year) would they boo him less?

And will this franchise turn on Montero if he continues to hit .189?

Never liked Miggy getting all that money. I get that he is a good catcher, but he's never struck me as a fixture in this organization. I hate his approach at the plate. He does seem to manage the hurlers pretty well though.

Eric Chavez has won six Gold Glove awards. A lot of 3B would love to be able to say that.

He may have slowed down a little at the age of 36, but he is no slouch fielding 3B.

Actually, he is. He can both be an incredible defensive 3B when he was in his 20's, which he was, and be an incredibly poor one at the age of 36, which he is. He's been ravaged by injuries in his career.

As a GM or Manager you lose a lot of games if you rely on the past and ignore the present. Looks like that's what you're doing.

The guy has 6 Gold Gloves. Is he really not a good fielder?

Gold Gloves really mean nothing. They are as much about hitting as they are fielding. For example, Derek Jeter has 5 Gold Gloves and he is a terrible defender.

Gold gloves are a popularity contest. The guys who make more flashy plays get them, then once you've won one, you have a very good change at winning another.
