Balls must be between 12.5 and 13.5 psi at inspection by officials. If the Pats inflate to the minimum (12.5 psi) it almost goes without saying that the elements will bring the psi below minimum over the course of 3 hours.

That too. Amazing how many people talking about it are clueless as to what PSI is and why it matters and etc. Makes me wonder how many underinflated vehicle tires are on the i-10 right now.

It won't let me copy the link but it was on PFT here's a pic of the article.

Says nothing about Brady and the ball boy being responsible for this. Do you have that link or is that purley your speculation?

Comparing 1-1.5 pound in a football & tire are drastically differant considering ones 12 lbs & the other is 32-35 along with football is leather & a tire is hard rubber.

I challenge you or anyone else to get a new NFL ball & see how hard it is then check the differance after letting a 1-1.5lbs out of it. Night & day

Again if it doesn't matter why did Brady & past QBs doing it?

Whom do you think did it then? Common sense tells you if true, who did it. Again Brady admitted he likes a less inflated ball & says so in the article, but I guess it's just coencidence ;)

In cold weather yes, in warm weather they will inflate more.

I think Madden nailed it, the guy behind this is almost certainly Tom Brady because no coach would tamper with the balls without consent of his QB and probably at the request of his QB.

Madden thinks Brady convinced someone to under inflate them.

In other words, convince someone AFTER inspection to take air out?

Yep all it takes is the ballboy sticking a needle in & letting the air out. It could be done without anyone really noticing if done the right way imo

Not when the temperature only dropped 3 degrees from kickoff to the end of the game. It was warm in New England Sunday night so temperature would not have had an impact.

Then why are they doing it? :mulli:

Believe me it makes a differance our QB used to do the same thing. Now does it affect how great a team the Pats have been for 15 years? No, but when you cheat or break the rules there should be consequences...not just an "oh well".

It is widely known again the pretty much all QB's do this to some extent.. A few have admitted to it since this story broke.

Its a non factor to me.. Been happening in the league forever.. score at half with deflated balls 17-7 Pats.. 2nd half score with normal balls Pats 28 Colts 0… The balls didn't give anyone an advantage. Pure horse manure as far as Im concerned. This has been blown completely out of proportion and only because its the Pats. If this were the Browns and Brian Hoyer nobody would give a rats ass including the NFL.

Maybe some of the measurements were taken in the sauna room.

I don't like the way Brady literally laughed this off in the local radio interview the day after the game saying now he had "heard everything" and "had no idea" about this. Colin Coherd replayed it over and over on ESPN radio yesterday.

Saying the ball feels too tight, let a little air out of it is a lot different than breaking a law. Former NFL QBs have been coming out in droves saying this is completely normal.

I mean the laws/rules of the game. The rules of the NFL are the laws to which team and players are to abide by. We're talking about football, not the laws that govern the people.

IMO ball pressure is kinda like jaywalking. Its a law that isn't a serious offense.

if its a big deal, have the NFL provide the balls and dont let the team touch them unless playing.

You are right in that it was a non factor in the outcome of the AFC Championship game. But it is a huge deal in relation to the integrity of the game. It is also having an impact on the public's perception of the NFL, the Patriots, their coaches and Brady.

Yep.

I like Brady & like Bellichek but Tom Brady blatantly lied on TV today. Fess up & tell the truth & this will go away. Lying & integrity are the big deals to me.

And if the balls were underinflated in other Patriot games, like against the Ravens?

Integrity of the game? We could start a thread on all the unscrupulous things that teams have done in the NFL and it would be the thread that never ends. My only shock is that people are shocked.

Not all former QB's are saying it doesn't matter. Troy Aikman was very opinionated on the subject.

http://nypost.com/2015/01/22/aikman-on-deflategate-brady-knew-and-belichick-should-burn/

Troy Aikman said he believes Tom Brady spearheaded Deflategate and Bill Belichick should pay dearly for it.
“Now twice, under Bill Belichick and possibly a third time, they’ve cheated and given themselves an advantage. To me, the punishment for the Patriots and/or Bill Belichick has to be more severe than what the punishment was for the New Orleans Saints.”

Pinetar, sandpaper & Vaseline don't help pitchers in baseball throw a ball better either. :D

They got caught now it's time Brady admits wrong doing & quit lying.

We're all entitled to have our own opinion... IMHO, it's debatable that deflating balls wouldn't have an impact on a game. If that were the case, then why do it?? If you don't believe it makes a difference, why would you then willingly break the rule??
You can't have a situation where a team is playing with one type of a ball, and other teams are using their own types of balls... There has to be some rules or tolerances in place to ensure an even playing field. I don't know if the current psi tolerance needs to be tweaked, but regardless, the fact remains that there is a very clear rule and the Pats chose to skirt that rule.
They of course would've smashed the Colts no matter which balls were being used... but that's not at all at issue here. Heck, event the Colts players have admitted this. What's an issue is the integrity of a league, not to mention a franchise, an owner, a coach and a future HOF QB.
