Good teams know when to rid of an aging, deteriorating player. Good teams also don't make decisions based on pure emotion.

Exactly...Didn't the Pats just invite Wilfork to not come back, too? To me, that's bigger news than Dockett.

Thank for the 11 years D90, the Cards treated you fairly and you earned a ton of Money. Also, thanks for your hard work and effort.

With that said, **** Off Niner-0 you're the enemy now. :D

Is the deal only $2MM guarnateed from the niners compared to our $2.5MM guaranteed? What does he have to do to get the full $4MM in year 1? $3.5MM in year two...this could easily be a 1 year deal that ends up paying him less than what the Cards offer.

Decision was personal for DD to leave the Cards.

It's just business. The fans always seem to take this stuff more personally than the player and the team.
Of course, the old cliche'. Tell that to the thousands that follow him on Twitter or the thousands that bought his jerseys, right? I mean screw them it's their money, not the Cards' or Docks.

It's just business and that's why I have never, ever bought any teams merchandise with a players name on it since the days of Barkley and Marjerle. Because my business rolls with the logo, not the players.

Was the $2.5 Mill guaranteed with the cards? Didn't hear about any guarantees. With the cards, it was $2.5m to $4m that included incentives. With the 9ers, it sounds like he can make the $4m without incentives.

sure, that's the only logical conclusion that can be made. It's just a fact, the fans are more upset than either DD or the Cards.

I'm not mad at him. We released him, he was free to sign with another team. He took the best offer given to him. I wish him well. Same with Williams. If you give a player your blessing to test the market and another team comes in and overbids you and that player signs, don't be mad when that player takes the better deal. DD had a great run here for 10 seasons(11 years). I won't be rooting for him but wouldn't boo him either. Good luck DD.

Pretty much my thoughts. No ill will, but to heck with the 9ers.

From what I have heard (haven't seen anything in writing), it's a 2 year deal with $2 million guaranteed, but with some type of incentive(s) that can take it to $4 million guaranteed in the first year. And apparently, those incentives are extremely less onerous than the offer the Cards had placed into their package.

That must be the difference. Will be interesting to see what the incentives are. If they are not much easier obtained, it will be pretty easy to see what DD's motivation was. Although, the fact that he was only interested in NFCW teams might tell us all we need to know.

The guy that got injured and was on the cards sidelines for every game, bleed cards red for 12 years and is now dead to some of you because another team wanted him more then the cards? He even gave them the chance to match and still they didn't. I don't hate him for that. Yea he talked crap about Dansby chasing the money but anyone would want more money when it's offered up. Everyone would.

Not everyone. Agree to disagree.

If you have already had a great career and made a ton of money and have two fair offers from two teams - one a playoff team and one a .500 team - you can freely choose which team you'd like to play for...where you'd like to live, etc.

Didn't want to see DD leave and certainly not to the 9ers. I'm not sure that we couldn't have matched their offer or even beat it to keep him here. Pinching pennies is not always the smartest move. 9ers GM is very good and has assembled a ton of talent on that team so it's not like this was Snyder going gaga in FA again.

Other side of the coin is that DD has basically done what he called Los out for, simply chasing some extra $$$$$$$$. Plus I thought DD HATED the 9ers!?!?!?!?!?

Bottom line it's just a business and all the other fluff is pure crap 98% of the time.

Thanks for effort and play while you were here DD.

I say the current situation with the Niners looks like a train wreck about to crash, especially all their current moves at the coaching staff not to mention personnel... but they had a great system before the whole Harbaugh debacle lol

Meh....

5-11 with him and 5-11 without him...

Just kidding. No ill will toward Dockett. He did what he thought was best for him.

Good luck and thanks for the memories 9-0.

I think you have that backwards. 11-5 with, 11-5 without. ;)

They had a horrible system before harbaugh and had a great system with him. I doubt they do anything next year even with the players they have on the team. Yea, they will probably bat the cards as they seem to do each year, but they won't be a team to worry about. Rams will take over that area next year.

Also don't forget that the money is an illusion and is not immutable. Currencies can change, be depreciated, and whatever is sitting in your bank can be bailed-in.

Adding more to a pile you don't plan on using for decades, doesn't mean it'll be there decades from now.

A few extra dollars an hour to average Joe might allow him to buy or keep a house. For DD, it's just more 0's and 1's sitting in an account.

A championship ring, well, that's likely to last you forever.

somers says the Cards FO isn't upset, so I don't know why I should be. We all heard him say the same things. It's just business.

You don't need to talk as much as he does in the media for it to be 'just business.'

Did he test the market, or did he just run to the 49ers? I don't care if someone who is cut goes and finds a team to pay him more, but from what I saw, he only went to visit the 49ers, and that's the part that I have a hard time digesting.

And it shows what you're really about.

Whatever, I am over this whole thing until he shows up at U of P next year and I get to watch him take a beating. Next man up!
