Hi, casual fan here popping by to confirm Friday is likely the first game KD dresses for the Suns. What say you?

(I'll save the full, tired rant on what the Suns gave up in the trade until my 3rd or 4th post at which point I'll consider myself a true die-hard that bleeds orange ;) )

So what is it? Fantasy team or real money.

Hehe. Nah, not a gambler. I really got into the Suns when I moved here in the early 90's and kind of fell out of it after the Nash era and have just focused on the Coyotes for whatever reason. (mostly time commitment) I was excited when we went to the Finals and then we sort of lost that momentum. This KD news has my curiosity piqued once again and I'm hoping it injects some life into the team so they can make a run. The best description for me would be 'fair-weather fan,' and I'm ok with that. I do need some excitement and personality from the local team for me to jump back into the NBA, and I think this might be the ticket.

I was just kidding about the tired rant stuff, I'll spare you all my thoughts from the cheap seats. :)

75% of the coaches in the league will also never win a championship.
While I believe good coaching can make an impact, the idea that any NBA coach is incapable of winning a title with the right roster to me seems like baloney. Enough talent can transcend coaching and has in the past.

There also have been multiple Super Teams in the past that couldn't get it done in the past. By your logic that should never happen. Although, I do think, there is more to it than just coaching and talent. There are things like strength of schedule, injuries, seeding, what other teams did and little luck that also play a factor.

Bottom line is in any industry there are people just so bad at their jobs it brings down the entire team. We have also seen teams in the past that couldn't get over the hump until a really good coach got there. So, talent can't always transcend.

I’d love for you to list the bad/mediocre coaches that talent has overcome to win a title.

Tough to do, because the coaches are often given more credit than they deserve for winning a title but here are 3 who have won who I don't think are particularly good.

Frank Vogel, Doc Rivers, Mike Budenholzer

Lol… Frank Vogel made the Pacers a legit title contender, taking the Heat Super Team to 7 and 6 games when their second best player was Roy Hibbert. Also won Coach Of The Year before ever hitting the Lakers. The idea that he’s not particularly good is laughable.

Doc is a good, not great Coach. Anyone who could get that woeful Orlando team totally bereft of talent to a .500 record or that old bag of bones to a Game 7 of the peak Kobe/Pau Lakers team is a good coach.

Budholzer won 60 games and Coach Of The Year with the freaking HAWKS who’s best player was Al Horford and IMMEDIATELY turned the Bucks into contenders after having previously been listless under Jason Kidd.

Every single one of those guys won Coach Of The Year BEFORE they even got to the franchise they won a title with. That doesn’t happen unless you’re a baseline good coach.

Now, I can see arguments against ALL of those guys being great coaches, but the idea that none of them are particularly good is an argument without evidence.
