Ellington is not a returner

Certainly "able" to do that in a pinch. Did it fairly successfully in college. Point being that he has some versatility so he doesn't have to be the next best option at any one position. Only the least worst option at several positions. Like a utility infielder in baseball.

This is exactly NOT Andre Ellington,...and exactly WHY he may not even make the team. Dude is afraid of contact,...the coach even mentioned it after OTA's the other day...being afraid to get hit is a death sentence for a RB.
If he does not learn his route trees he will be on a different roster or selling insurance come September.
Or apprenticing under Bucky Brooks...

Exaggerate much?

If you're afraid of contact it's doubtful you'd make it to College let alone the NFL.

That's probably why he's been shifted to WR.

Isn't it funny that despite his skill set he got no sniffs in FA & resigned here. Why Big Red resigned Dre is beyond me because they know exactly what he is...scared, falls down at the sight of contact yet very talented.

IMO unless he has an incredible TC, no way he makes this roster!

It's true almost always, especially last season. I don't know if it was his looming FA or what but the guy would dive to the ground or scoot out of bounds on KR & RB repeatedly.

He has played returner for us. He can't do it. He will not be kept for his ability as a returner. I don't care what he did in college I have watched him play 5 years in the nfl

there is no exaggerating in my post. it is simply truth learned from watching him play the past couple seasons.
look up BA's presser after OTA's the other day...he even mentions there that AE has to get over being afraid of contact.

My view as well. The most important thing he needs to do in pre season is lower his shoulder and fight for extra yards...or he will be gone.

There is no one on this team who can return the ball, outside of DJ who is not getting that duty. We drafted some guys, one of them will fill the role this year.

Pretty sure the PR guys consult with the coaching staff with regards to what they put up, and when. Otherwise they end up looking stupid by hyping a guy up who gets cut two days later. The articles stay up, so they have to bear the responsibility. I think it's actually the most accurate information you get from the team regarding pecking order and status of the players. You have to divine the entrails, because they very seldom come right out and make public the information until it's written in stone.
"Pretty Sure" doesn't make it so.

While PR and beat stuff may be the most credible info available about a team, it's far from being all the information we'd like to have - there's still a lot we fans don't know...which, in turn, fosters a lot of speculation often posing as fact.

What we know: Gabbert's on the roster. He was drafted high with much hype a number of years ago. He hasn't lived up to that hype. There are mixed opinions as to his future as a Cardinal.

Ellington is a WR.
Except when he's a RB...which could all change 3 or 4 times during preseason.

One way to view Ellington (& possibly Logan & even KW) is to consider them to be the Bucannons or Mathieus of the offense - occupying a newly created hybrid slot WR/Scatback position that, in some ways, hasn't been totally created yet.

(I'd also keep an eye on another potential hybrid role - Oversized WR/Receiving TE).

Why let Bettcher have all the fun?

I agree. My statement was just in context. Imo Ellington will have a hard time making the roster this year though

Exactly.

I'm in the wait and see corner on Gabbert. It would be huge for the team if he can put it all together under BA and the staff. But I'm not expecting much based on his past performance.

Juke has made some big time plays for us but he is mostly a tease. He keeps getting dinged up and hurt and then can't get on the field and because of his recurring injuries he has become very tentative and tries to avoid contact too often. I don't think he should run into guys to prove he is tough but he shouldn't take dives when lowering his pads means he could gain significant extra yardage.

IMO Juke has decided to extend his career by trying to remain healthy and it has worked up until now. I agree with all those that say if he doesn't show he can take hits and remain healthy then he won't make the team. I don't think he is a coward buy simply making business decisions and trying to stay healthy so he can stay in the NFL.

We need a whole thread rather on Ellington out of respect, because he has done more than Gabbert so far and the Gabe has yet to earn a thread on this forum :newcards:

I would think that AE would have some trade value for a team in need of a third down back. Might happen in the PS if someone goes down with an injury.
