Why don't they? Campbell whiffed on Jackson's TD run. And Timmy was one-man versus the entire Rams defense...

I was there. It's just the way it was... ;)

You blame Campbell as the SOLE reason then where were the other 10 guys on defense?

But excuse TH because nobody was helping him.

That's what I was getting at.

I could see your point if it were one of those quick outs to a WR and the DB whiffed but not on a run play.

On the bright side guys if there is a lockout we're not going to be missing a SB we would of otherwise went to, that would suck bad.

My goals for this team are again the same as they were late in the DG era, get a real GM, this is killing us.

We have no coherent top down strategy on anything and I want people high above who know people who are good at coaching to evaluate the coaches, cause I don't see any of that going on or we'd never have suffered this long under the Pendy/Davis era.

This has to stop or all the rest of it is just fighting for the good seats on the Titanic.

Campbell had Jackson dead on at the point of attack. It's because he somehow missed that Jackson sprung free. That left Hayes to try to run with him which, I'm trying not to laugh too hard here... was, well laughable. Why would you expect all 11 guys on the defense to be in a position, not just on that play but any play, to make the tackle?? When does that ever happen? CC was left free and had the clear shot on Jackson, and whiffed...

And if you think Timmy had help out there today, well, I wish I could've been enjoying whatever it was you were drinking today!!! :D

Mitch, are you really gonna put some blame on Fitz? I don't even want to know, if Whiz isn't tanking this season on purpose, he needs to lose his job. If he is really trying to win, fire him tomorrow.

THATS RIGHT! DESERTDAWG IS OVER THIS WHIZENCHIT!

That game was horrible, even when the D shows up, we have nothing. Only one place to throw the blame after this many losses, this many QBs, and this many mistakes.

Anybody that doesn't want to draft a QB (Luck or Newton) can look forward to the same damn suckfests with me and our over prized coach. I will always be a Cards fan , but I am done with the crap that's worse than the crap that we used to be considered crappy for.

This still doesn't make any sense at all. So not one of the other 11 defenders were in any position to make a stop on Jackson at any time during the play? Where were they, all running the other way or getting blocked? Well then get the heck off the block and help CC make a play.

Of course you do your typical P&R spin with this ridiculous remark:
Why would you expect all 11 guys on the defense to be in a position, not just on that play but any play, to make the tackle??

So Tim Hightower had no help out there today? You think that he just took the ball off the ground and ran with it all by himself? Well I'd like to know what you were smoking today.

How many other guys do you believe should've had a shot at Jackson? Here is the video of Jackson's run:

As you will see, CC was left unblocked while the other front 6/7 were blocked well enough so that when CC whiffed, it was a foot race with Hayes... Of course, DRC also was left unblocked, but I don't need to get into his Punk-ass do I??

Yea... our o-line played great today. It was nothing but huge gaping holes for Timmy all day. ;)

You know, now that I think about it I do expect every guy on defense who is not covering a potential receiver downfield to be in a position to make a tackle on every play.

That is why I have been so critical of the Cards defenses for so many years.

Of course knowing that at least some of the defensive players will be downfield covering people still makes your statement ridiculous.

So you excuse the defensive guys because they got blocked but fault the offensive guys for not blocking. That's nuts.

8. Draft: (1) If Luck is available...take him asap, otherwise, draft the best impact defensive player on the board---like a Von Miller, Texas A&M. (2) Hope for QB Colin Kaepernick to be there in Round 2; (3) Draft kids who are tough and like to tackle---and o-linemen who love to block; (4) Draft leaders.

Love your posts Mitch...and agree with most of this one...but...Von Miller in the top 5? That's nuts...honestly he'll be lucky to make the 1st round at all. And Kaepernick in the 2nd? He has great size and good athleticism with a decent arm, but lacks most everything else. There's a strong chance he won't get drafted at all.

Keep these posts coming though...great reads.

If it were up to me...

1. You'd have a new GM...a real football guy and difference maker.

2. While I agree that Whiz deserves another year...he needs to be coached up by the new GM as to what it will take to turn this thing around. Whiz is too pig-headed to see it.

3. New DC...and this time, an experienced one.

4. New OC...same...like Haley did in KC landing Charlie Weis.

5. No more over-the-hill has been players...get rid of them all.
I agree... said pretty much the same thing here:

Holy crap!!

That HAD to be the biggest puss move I have seen next to JJ Arrington's flop.

I just watched that play over and over...what a pansy DRC is. Just get rid of him already.

While DRC has been frustrating and seems like he would prefer football to be played with flags, he is way too young to give up on. He will mature, and when he does, he will be really good.

I think Luck is the only one you can start right away. This is why---if he's gone--I would prefer to pick up the starting QB in free agency and draft defense. If we don't straighten out this defense, it won't matter who is the QB. Seriously, this defense (and they played fairly well today versus a totallly conservative offense)...is flat-out awful...not necessarily for lack of talent...but for mental and physcial toughness. Pitiful, really.

How about the goal-line play where, thank goodness Calais or Williams batted down the pass? The TE...per usual...was wide open and no one was covering him. This (leaving WRs or TEs or RB totally uncovered) is the rule around here...not the exception...and THAT HAS to change.

But that's the problem. Here is the list of possible free agent QB's who might be available for 2011:

Bret Favre
Kellen Clemmens
Kerry Collins
Shaun Hill
Chad Pennington
Drew Stanton
Sage Rosenfels
Tyler Thigpen
Billy Volek
Seneca Wallace

Who on this list looks promising? Now, there are other names like Peyton Manning, Michael Vick, Kevin Kolb, Troy Smith but I don't see these QB's changing teams for nothing. But the rest, even a possible Alex Smith, do not intrigue me. Which I would be willing to get someone like Mallet or Locker and build around that. This is what's been wrong with this franchise. We need to build a team, not piece together players for a possible run. Look at teams like Philly, NE, ect who've built their team through the draft and added other players, not the other way around which is what Whiz has been doing. Getting free agents then drafting to fill a few holes and that's no way to run a franchise. Let's draft a QB who can lead this team and stop with these stop gap measures. We have some good young players; DD, Williams, Washington, Campbell, THT, LSH, Beanie, and Fitz. Let's build around that.

Pick out who you think are the 5 best 3-4 WILBs in the NFL. Then go look up their rookie stats. Then ask yourself what Daryl Washington is doing sitting behind Paris Lenon.

I don't think Washington should be sitting. In fact if he and Lauranitis were our starting ILBs our D would look much better all else equal. We've really screwed the pooch on personnel decisions this off-season.

You mean worse than Anderson getting sacked by a blade of grass?

He also needs to gain some muscle and grow some balls. Has anyone ever seen someone as skinny as DRC play defense in modern day 21st century football?

Did you just use Troy Smith in the same sentence as Peyton Manning  ?

I watched every game Lauranaitis played at OSU and it's surprising how good he has turned out to be. I didn't the he would be able to compete, athletically, at the NFL level but he has definitely proven me wrong.I doubt there are too many in th league who outwork him though. He has always been known for that.
A guy that alot of us liked in last years draft had a nice game today in Sean Lee.

I've been a Whiz defender, but when I'm reminded that we lost Haley and Haley gained Weis, it seems crazy. Whiz thought he could do it without Haley and Haley realized he couldn't do it all by himself. But then the real difference is probably Pioli versus Graves. If your coach has Parcells or Holmgren-level personnel responsibilities, that's one thing. But if you're going to have a GM, you should have a GM.
