yeah I agree it was an episode where they missed a bunch of opportunities to make it great. Probably my least favorite of the season so far. The next two should be great though.

Did anybody else get the vibe that no fight scene with the Waif, no fight scene at the castle, no fight scenes with Blackfish were maybe an attempt to save on logistics and money for the episode? Seems like a ton of stuff (more than usual) happened off camera in this episode.

I don't think it was for budgetary purposes; I think it speaks to the lack of quality this season. They had the same restrictions earlier in the show's run, and maybe even more so than now, though they always seemed to work around that for quality scenes. This episode just screamed of selling the audience short.

Not showing the battle with the Waif was weak as hell, very anti-climatic and dissatisfying.

The constant bitching and moaning about "quality" is getting pretty tiring.

The only cringeworthy moment was Danys entry.

No showing the battle with the Waif was done well imo. The scene lasted a little long anyway and Arya cutting off the candle was a nice conclusion.
Also showing the Waif actually being killed would have invalidated the following scene.

Not showing the Blackfish battle was fine imo. He is a very minor character in the series, there is no reason to show his death against some random Lannister soldiers.

Constantly defending "quality" and bitching and moaning about bitching and moaning is getting pretty tiring

those were pretty much my thoughts on it as well...already seen the episode twice... Dannys entry was weak and should have been focused on burning ships.........I liked the arya sequence,...and **** the blackfish...everything he has ever done was before the series started.
The two Hound sequences make this entire episode.

But now the tinfoil hats can remain on and crazy theories can still develop.

hey,...maybe the waif did in fact kill arya,....then she put her own face back in the hall, swapped clothes with arya, and took her face....so she could go back to westeros and wreak havoc among the remaining starks.........

My guess is that scene and the Blackfish scene (if not for budgetary reasons) was exactly for that. Getting fans to go theory crazy.

I just thought the Arya one bugged me the most. Not because I think anything crazy like it's really the Waif but because we watched this entire arc, her training, the tension built between the two characters and they whiffed it. They didn't show it.

Kind of makes all the build up between the two characters pointless.

I seen the build up more as a way to show the training arya was getting...and that training paid off in the end.

Maybe but they spent a ton of time on the tension and conflict between the two characters only for it to be a swing and a miss at the end. They were probably trying to make the final scene more impactful with the waifs face on the wall.

The problem? It wasn't a shocking scene. I knew it wasn't going to be Arya's face on the wall and I knew she had the advantage in the fight as soon as she cut the candle. It was poorly conceived IMO.

I almost felt like the off-camera stuff was worth about 15 minutes of screen time that got cut. They are clearly going to dedicate the entire episode next week to Winterfell, so that means they had the choice of either leaving all of these characters hanging for 2 weeks (and then squeezing them in to an already over-stuffed finale), or using exposition/cutaways to wrap things up.

I think it was problem with plotting the season more than anything.

I'd much rather have seen the resolution for these characters than the 15 minutes we got in Dorne this season, which ended up with an on-screen death of a character nobody cared about (at least the TV version).

I can see that. As a fan...I would have preferred to see arya slice her up...hell,...maybe even carve off her face

I read one not long ago that had a Fight Club/Tyler Durden thing going on with Arya and the Waif.

How could they show it, it was pitch black. The fight with the blackfish should have been shown, unless they are keeping it a secret that he didn't die.

"Showing" doesn't have to be visual. It would have been uber-cool to hear the battle in the dark, the grunts, the surprise, the death rattle, and to see the light come up again on the aftermath. It was extremely unsatisfactory.

Sounds like my sex life, particularly the "unsatisfactory" part. :D

they added the spoiler button...pretty stoked about this...the only negative is that it pops up above what you have previously written instead of below it

HOLY poo!! excellent episode,...for all you guys screaming for pay off this episode pays off in spades!
Wow..... watching Ramsey get his face chewed off by his own hounds was....awesome,...yeah...the whole family was cheering for that.
Sad loss of the giant,...suxx for Rickon,...but the battle of the bastards was fantastic...
Was cool to see the banter between Daenarys and the greyjoys...those two broads together could do some damage. Nice to see all three dragons working in unison,... but in all honesty that scene was pretty under played...three grown dragons should be able to unleash much more damage than they did..
but IMO this was the absolute best episode of the season....and I am pretty sure Davos is going to stick a blade in the red with soon...thought it was gonna be tonight...but soon... wow...loved it...
