It appears the Suns will have another center prospect attend camp per RealGM. I can't say the Suns are going after top name players in their search for a big man.

See RealGM article link/ quote below dated 9-20-10.

Siler played with the New Jersey Nets and Miami Heat in Summer League this July after after averaging 14.1 points and 9.3 rebounds with the Shangai Sharks in China's CBA.

Here's a more in-depth article from Suns.com:

I guess Siler and Dwayne Jones can battle for a roster spot in training camp. That can't hurt. His summer league numbers this year were not very impressive, but he did not play much. In 4 games with the Nets, he averaged 3 points and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes, and in 6 games with the Heat he averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds in 14 minutes. His numbers in China looked better, including a 31 point 12 rebound performance against a team that featured Marbury.

I wish the Suns added a more NBA ready center than Siler but I'm all for the Suns taking on project players like him, Dwayne Jones and Dwayne Collins (playing in Europe). I'm not even ruling out Steven Hunter who might be the best backup center working out for the Suns.

He's going to sign for the same deal Dwayne Jones got. In other words, non-guaranteed.

Whether Garret Siler or Dwayne Jones, ABF -- anyone but Frye -- as backup Center puts a smile on my face.

Channing can be the backup 4, a backup 3, hell, even a backup 2 if they want. Just not another 27.2 minutes (56% of the 48 minutes at Center), as he averaged last season.

It's interesting no team is going after Jazz RFA, Kyrylo Fesenko. He is likely to be signed by the Jazz to only a one million dollar contract for this season. I did not follow Fesenko but he is a physical specimen with NBA experience and only 23 years of age. I wish the Suns would have at least considered him. I guess the Cavaliers decided to drop their interest in him.

Let's face it, whoever wins the center battle won't get many minutes. Dampier, I just have a feeling, would come to Phoenix and proceed to get injured knowing the Suns luck with aging veteran centers. We always seem to pick those aging guys when their last tread is about to fall off!

It was reported that Siler was at 330lb when he reported and dropped 15 so that would put him at 315lb. Last season in China he weighed around 275lb. For a player who wanted to get an NBA contract, putting on 50 pounds was not the best thing to do. He is still way over what would seem like his ideal weight, and at this point I doubt he'll make the team. The Suns need someone who can get up and down the floor, and right now Jones would fit in a lot better.
