what 21 saves second in mlb. Yea he didnt do great but still one of the best closers in the game. I just hope this game doesnt hurt are momentum going into the red sox series. tough loss.

Dude, a save is the most worthless statistic in all of baseball. Valverde is not even close to being one of the best closers in the game. ERA and WHIP is the best way to grade a closer. Compare Valverde's WHIP and ERA to John Paplebon who only has 13 saves.

I have said it before...now I am saying it again. Valverde does not instill very much confidence in me come Aug and Sep (and hopefully Oct) when it really counts.

More than a power hitter, I think the Dbacks need to go closer shopping in July.

I was at the game as well.

They should have left Cruz in the game. Did they show him throwing the 101MPH fastball on TV?

He was throwing in the high 90's until that 101MPG gem. I was like WTF!

What sucks is we struck out Bonds with the tying run on base in the 8th, and then blow the game against Pedro Feliz. :(

Yeah I have to agree with ryan here. Valverde has impressive save numbers, but ask anyone here, we can't watch the 9th when Valverde is pitching. It's hard to watch a lot of times. Like someone else on here said, Valverde has to be the luckiest closer in the game.
