ESPN has updated the article to include the Cards... inside team sources say this won't be Joe Montana all over again.

You know I am really surprised how few people in the media even bring up the fact that we were that close to getting Montana back then. I guess it goes again to the fact that no one wants to admit that AZ is a realistic destination.

Well, that is 19 years ago. I can't even think of anyone in Arizona who was working here in the media back them.

I mean national media. Those guys all know the history.

We were a much bigger joke to the national media in 1993 than we are now. I don't think anyone gave us a realistic shot at getting Montana back then. Hell, it's killing many of the national media in 2012 to even admit we have a shot at Manning. I don't know how many times I saw on the NFL network Friday that they would jump right from the Broncos to talking about the Dolphins and gave us two sentences of mention, tops.

I DVR'd hours of Sportcenter and NFL network to hear 15 seconds of Cardinals. :D

Peyton in Denver is a MUCH bigger story because of the Tebow issue. The national media is going to pump that up as long as they can. Websites are going to get more hits if the headline is Manning/Denver.

They probably just finished lunch. I'm not going to worry unless one of those bright green Prius taxi cabs pulls up to the facility and Peyton gets in it. Alone.

Outside of Elway, I just don't understand what Peyton sees in Denver. They have weaker players at the offensive skill positions than just about any team in the league. Not to mention their head coach is a longtime believer in the run-first philosophy. When you add in the cold weather and a fan base that favors the incumbent QB, I don't see the appeal.

I'm saddened but not surprised at how most of the national sports media was focused on Miami and Denver, and totally discounted the Cardinals chances. If it wasn't Miami or Denver, it was the Jets, or Niners or Redskins. We're still the Rodney Dangerfield in the narrow minds of ESPN.

If anybody has ever lived in Denver you know exactly where this rumor is coming from. The Denver media.

I don’t have any strong feelings towards Tim Tebow. But I find the way that John Elway has dealt with that "situation" to be disappointing for a guy who supposedly has a lot of integrity. He and John Fox haven’t been very forthright and I wonder if that has crossed Peyton’s mind at all?

Just a random thought.

Let's break this down a little...

Here is the exact quote as being reported by ESPN:
One source who spoke with Manning prior to his visit with the Cardinals said "his gut is that Manning is leaning toward Denver."
Considering that Manning is traveling alone, the only sources that could have "spoke with Manning" would be those affiliated with the Broncos in Denver, since he departed that city on a Cardinals jet. It seems a given that anyone in Denver associated with the Broncos would relay optimism or a positive "gut feeling" to the media. What else are they going to say "No, we don't feel good about our chances"? Even if the visit to Denver went horribly wrong, they aren't going to admit that to anyone, especially the press, until long after Peyton makes his decision.

Nothing to worry about here, IMO.

A "gut" feeling from "a source" even before Cardinals meetings started.
Then I guess its accurate in a sense, for its pretty easy lean in the only direction you've gone at that time...:D

Is anyone else feeling not as optimistic as you were earlier?

I've never been particularly optimistic during this pursuit of Manning. But nothing has happened today to make me less optimistic. I think we know as much on this subject as just about anybody not named Manning.

Redz, where in the world did you hear Elway had a lot of integrity? He's sort of famous for being a class-a jerk.

Being a life-long fan of the Cardinals has precluded any optimism for me. I can make logical arguments why he'll come here, but none from the heart.

I'm fully prepared to see the thread "And Manning signs with...", to click on it, and see "Denver." I'm just waiting for this to be over so that I can go back to expecting nothing from this team.

Vic Lombardi, formerly a local radio guy, is now up in Denver and brags all the time about how much better the sports market is in Denver. He is the one citing "unnamed sources" and has it at 80/20 that Peyton goes to Denver.

Not solid reporting, IMHO.

We don't know all the twists in this thing, but on paper, I 'd be nervous abou ownership who ditched Cutler for Orton and then Orton for Tebow only to push Tebow aside to make room for Peyton.

How secure would you be with a management that does this?

Note - the Kolb situation is a bit different due to the concussion and limited time on the field issues.

That's a point I had not thought of.
