-David Lee: 20 points 8/10 shooting, 7 rebounds, 2 assists – The top performance of the day belonged to David Lee without a doubt. Lee showed off his entire arsenal of skills Friday for every minute that he was on the court, making unbelievable passes, taking the ball strong off the dribble right at the hoop with his quickness, running the floor like a mad man and rebounding in traffic like a pro. He showed great footwork in the paint to back his man down and score with a finesse move and finish, and came up with a number of emphatic dunks after moving off the ball intelligently. Lee then proceeded to tear the scouting report to shreds by nailing a jumper from mid-range and then taking a rebound coast to coast for a one-handed dunk. It's debatable whether there is anything more that he could have done to impress the scouts in the stands. This is the David Lee that everyone was expecting to see when he accepted his invite to Chicago. He came through in a big way for himself, and probably solidified himself a spot in the first round in the process.

From Hoopshype:
- David Lee: An outstanding effort has launched serious first-round chatter for Lee, who starred in Chicago with fantastic defense and a solid outing every time.

Will have a much better career in the NBA than in college. Has very good athletic ability, great footwork, can run the floor, can rebound and play defense. Needs to improve his perimeter game but this guy has played himself into the first round.

Also unlike most players who had real good workouts (including his workout with the Suns) was willing to put it all on the line going to the Chicago camp where most guys would have rested on their laurels.

label me a racist or whatever you want - but if this team take a Big White Stiff I will throw up. Nothing like a Big White to help cement your already porous defense!

Labelling....

I knew it would only be a matter of a few replies before someone brought up the race issue. It is really discouraging that this happens time and time again.

Have you watched any clips on Lee or are you just going on the basis of his skin color? I would suspect the latter. I guess you are of the mind that a white-skinned player is not capable of playing any defense.

Did you read the article? Or do you just assume White guys can't run, jump or play defense despite scouting reports to the contrary?

I've seen him play a few times on TV and liked him (and predicted on this board a month or so ago we'd end up taking him). And since White Guy/White Guy comparisons are en vogue, he's like Mark Madsen physically (Chad Ford made the comparison, and I think it's a good one), but he's got some skill, he's left handed. He'd fit nicely in our scheme, in my opinion.

just the latter - I'll admit - I type-cast big white guys as stiffs - rip away if you want.

For a White Guy/Black Guy comparison, he plays a bit like Al Harrington.

I dont know what the hell people are expecting with the 21st pick in the draft. Personally, Id be extatic with the equivalent of a Mark Madsen, a Najera, or better yet a Jeff Foster. Race has nothing to do with it. The guy can play. Here's a description of him:

Uses his size well…Quicker than most big men, and can slide through players in the lane… A good rebounder who really works on the glass… Relentlessly hits the offensive boards … He can step out and hit the occasional 18-footer …decent handle for a big man and can drive past slower post players…gets great position in the post, and has excellent footwork… A sound passer… Solid defensively and gives great effort He's tall. 6'10 with long arms and very quick for big man…crafty player who knows his strengths and plays to them. Excellent athlete with very good quickness and explosiveness. Has a great feel for the game.

with the 21st pick - I expect a hell of a lot more than pieces of crap like Madsen and Najera. Bottom line - if he's 6'10, with long arms, a good passer and EXPLOSIVE - can someone tell me how the hell he's gonna last till the 21st pick?

Amen, brother cheese. As the resident basketball racist, I don't want another Dennis Autry, Voshkul, Big Jake and others too numerous to mention.

why - in the past 21st picks or later have been guys like Michael Finley, Tayshaun Prince, Wes Person, Carlos Boozer, hell - even lower than that have been guys like GINOBLI AND PARKER - you know - the starters on the soon to be NBA Champs.

If you're gonna be a good team - you better draft well - that's what keeps SA on top - not hoping for guys as good as pieces of crap like Madsen and Najera.

If we have to get another whitey, can he be more like Steve Nash and Flop Naflopski and way less like Danny Schayes and Rick Robey?

Number 1

He is twice the athlete Madsen is. There is NO comparison in that regard. He is MUCH quicker than Madsen and he is relentless on hitting the offensive boards. He has excellent footwork and can drive to the basket.

I believe he will be a much better pro than a college player.

Madsen can't dance, but he's a pretty good post defender and a good rebounder for his size. If he had some offensive skills, he'd be a good player.

Thank you for acknowledging the crappiness of Najera. I hate him.

The guy sounds like a carbon copy of Raef Lafrentze - explosive! Good passer! Cleans up the boards!

In other words - another white stiff who can't play defense.

And LaFrenz would be good in our system, too.

The chances of the average guy drafted in the 20's having a serious impact on a high quality team immediatly is very small. You can come up with individual picks that have panned out (anyone can), but the point is the law of averages is against you. The suns have done well in the past in later picks but you cant expect it.

Not to mention that Najera and Madsen are full blown overachievers who worked and hustled their asses off at college and now are doing the same in the NBA. David Lee was a McDonald's AA who never distinguished himself on slightly above average Florida squads.

that's great an all - but isn't this team deficient in DEFENSIVE REBOUNDING? Again - another guy who loves playing O, but apparently not D - sounds like a big white stiff, who shot will get packed repeatedly by Duncan on the Offensive end.
