BPA, informed by need. Is a better anchor against the run than Dan Williams, and could develop into a solid pass defender. I think the Cards ended up disappointed that Dan Williams never really developed into a three-down defender, and I think they'll tee up that opportunitiy.

yes,i remember dan williams after his pro day and how much was praised by mayock he was considered a top 15 pick but we got him the same.
this draft outside of first 10 picks is about unpredictable

You could be right, the problem is that both Pittsburgh#22 and Detroit#23 who pick just in front of us could use a DT like Shelton. But its hard to predict what could happen on draft day. Keim could move up to #21 and not give up the farm if he really wanted him.

Didn't Dan Williams rate out as like the second best player in the NFL at his position. He's as good as it gets against the run. To say they were disappointed in him is a joke the Raiders just opened up the bank for him. The Cardinals knew they weren't going to be able to afford him.

That being said I would love Danny Shelton in the first round

I been on the Shelton bandwagon from day one. There are two true NT's in the top of this draft and both of them bring pressure up the middle as well as stuff the run. Shelton is the only one of those two that does not come with a lot of questions and gambles.
to manage 7-8 sacks a year from the NT would be a big boost to the defense....

Agree, he would be an awesome draft pick. Could pick up for Dan and while also playing outside in the 3-4 too. I just don't see him dropping to us, hopefully I'm wrong.

Big guys that can move like him aren't going to fall very far. He'll probably get drafted in the same range as Dontare Poe, Star Lotuleilei, and BJ Raji.

Don't see them taking a DT in the first round. They clearly don't value the position anymore. They made no attempt to keep Dan Williams. I can see them drafting a DT in the fourth round maybe. I do think your right about Shelton dropping lower in the draft. I think he goes somewhere between 16-25.

I think you make some very valid points especially with the team being disappointed with Williams. I don't think the team devalues the position as much as they want a 3 down NT. Williams was never going to be that. If Shelton can be that 3 down guy it works to an advantage for the defense since we know they like to blitz/send ILBs on passing downs so if you can force the Oline to double up on Shelton then you create some gaps for pass rushing.

I think he won't be there at #24 either, but I would not be shocked to be proven wrong.

As for choosing him for the 1st round pick, I would be be thrilled. The guy is a dancing bear.

I agree on both counts, in my mock I had him at 19 to Cleveland. That said wouldn't shock me to see him there when we pick. Someone said earlier 16-25 area, and I think that's about right. In the BPA scenario I could easily see him as the BPA at 24.

They use the ILB's to blitz out of necessity not because they like to. They would still ideally have a legit pass rusher on the outside that can beat his man 1v1. But a dominant NT like Shelton could be, would still be a major plus in creating an outside rush as well. I'd be all for this pick if he falls.

To be fair, many mocks and simulators are based on the previous ones, because not many people actually do their own research. So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is seen every year in online Fantasy Football and Baseball simulators.

I like K9's out of the box thinking here, and I agree with his assessment that we would gladly take a NT who will play more than 35% of the plays. The team has stated that about Williams, and it makes complete sense. They haven't devalued the position, it's just that they didn't want to pay big money for a run-stuffer only.
