We would have been a much bigger joke if we carried on with maybe the worst coach in Suns history.

7 coaches in 8 seasons. Tied for the worst record in the league during that span.

Nah, the Suns are already a joke. Not sure they can be any bigger of a joke, unless they pass on Zion.

must be some twisted universe we live in where the 2nd worst team in the NBA, which regressed from the year before despite more talent and underachieved predictions can't fire its head coach without being attacked for it.

You can't continue with a bad coach just because you are afraid to fire him.

Don't hate the firing, but I don't love it either.

I will say that the people making the decision have a much better picture of what Igor was like as a head coach than any of us do.

It was clear that he was good at some things, while appearing to be lacking in other areas, but I will defer to Jones on this one as I wasn't spending the time around the the locker room and practice court that he was.

I will agree with others on this board who were saying that he was too emotionless and while I do still believe that there is some value to that, I think it may be better for this young roster to have a coach that is more vocal and more energetic.

I just wish they could have had a replacement lined up first, but that could backfire as it could have created a rift between Igor and the team if they didn't find a better option.

Whoever they bring in needs to have experience and be capable of implementing a system that features Ayton.
Good luck wishing on that star. Unless he has a huge heart/mind change, that will not end well. He does not possess that want/will/drive. He certainly can be a component, but not the centerpiece.

Thank you

That is at least two of us think alike.

1. We won 19 games.
2. McDonough hired him
3. Appears to be lacking communication skills

That is enough reasons for me

Next

At least three.

Though please no Tyrann Lue, either.

First two coaches whom the Phoenix Suns will request permission to interview for head coach opening: Philadelphia assistant Monty Williams and Portland assistant David Vanterpool, league sources tell
@TheAthletic
@Stadium
.

Vanterpool would just be more of the same. Uninspiring assistant that really isn't head coach material. I hope they don't bark up that tree again.

Another reported candidate that makes me want to puke: Juwan Howard.

What do you call a team/owner that has 7 coaches in 8 seasons?

I’m ambivalent about Igor. That said, this team has shown they can’t get the hire right.

How would you feel about Keim if he had four more seasons in a row after this one, of one and done coaches, all rookie head coaches, by the way. Sarver must be spinning and flailing right now just hiring whatever walks in the door.

Maybe Jerry can put a consortium together to buy the team back, as his last gift to the city he put on the sports map.

well I imagine a coaching hire is pretty tough to do

Hard to evaluate coaches, even experienced ones might be bad or bad fits.

This helps clear out more of the stench in the room, that was left behind after McDonough was whacked.

I see no problem with it.

James Jones was part of the front office.

I had been looking for comments after Bowers was hired that included Kokoskov in the Suns future.

I couldn't find any. Now we know why.

I disagree, Aytons shooting %, rebounds and passing skills makes him a perfect piece to center an offense around.

We didn't hear anything from the front office but Woj said we had been intending to give Koko another year. So, something must have changed and the safe pick IMO is that feedback from players tipped the scales. I was against firing him because I don't believe he's had a fair shake and I wanted to avoid adding to our leading status in the coach firing industry - but player dissatisfaction (assuming it existed) is a good reason to move on.

Maybe hiring Jeff Bower was not a coincidence if the Suns wanted to go after Monty Williams.

Kokoskov did not get a fair shake in Phoenix. So many mistakes were made in the McDonough era that the lingering effects perhaps carried over to the head coaching position. I wonder how much James Jones was involved in the hire. Perhaps he wanted his own man in the position.

Whether the players had a role in the firing of Kokoskov remains to be seen.

I disagree, Aytons shooting % when he decides to shoot, rebounds when he decides to rebound (without boxing out), and passing skills (because he can throw the ball?) makes him a perfect piece to center an offense around.
FIFY. I love what Ayton might be some day when he realizes what he could be. Saying he is what you said, now (you know, when Igor was coach), seems disingenuous to me. How many times during the year did Ayton tell us what he was going to do - and then never did any of it?
