This guy is for real. With a full offseason as the starter, a full training camp as a starter, we will start to solidify our starting QB position for years to come.

Sign a vet backup, draft a #3, and roll with Skelton. That's right. Do it.

I'm leaning this way too but give him competition, make him improve and keep it (and cover our ass if he doesn't develop further)

ok back away from the egg nog;)
i think you give this kid every opportunity but i am once bitten twice shy he does have great pocket presence great time awareness he needs some touch on his pass maybe that will come by working with our receivers but he certainly is an intriguing prospect

He locks onto Roberts a lot, which is funny but makes some sense, he has probably gotten more work with him.

Breaston and Fitz just run around out there while he locks onto a rookie.

LOL.

Still if you just evaluate him objectively for what he is, I think he's a keeper but he's hardly someone you bet a season on yet.

You guys can doubt all you want, and I very much understand those doubts. It's scary to trust in this guy going forward, sure. I think it's the way to go anyway.

The guy has it. The games haven't looked pretty, but he's 2-1 with this crappy team, and when the pressure was on, he's responded with incredible poise. He's very tough to sack, and he has a solid head on his shoulders. He has the IT factor. And, let's face it, he has the 'moxie' that our HC loves so much.

I'm w/STOUT...

I've seen enough to think... give this guy every chance to excel. He moves well in the pocket and I don't see panic in his eyes. He has some clue what he's going to do if things break down. EX: on the fumble he tipped out of harms' way. That was a great spot to get a seperated shoulder. Instead, he deftly tips the ball away from the defender w/o endagering a hit on his shoulder. Very Smart! Besides that, Big-Time arm. ...AND he hates the Cowboys!! :D...

It should be a controlled optimism... let's look at the reality:

The offense produced ONLY 13 points.

We could not move the ball most of the night.

I am down with Skelton. I reserve the right to jump off the wagon if he doesn't improve the accuracy and the locking on.

The kid has very good pocket presence & throws darts. When you add his size, mobility, and composure......you have to like him. Hell, even when he is sacked, it takes a lot to get him down (ala Roethlesburger). I know his stats aren't great, but how many passes did our pathetic TE's drop tonight? There's no doubt that he flat out missed a few, but he just never gets rattled. I would bring in a vet like McNabb & a definite 3rd stringer. Get rid of DA & Hall for obvious reasons, although I wouldn't be surprised if Hall is brought back to battle for a roster spot. Give McNabb the opportunity to battle for the job. He lives in AZ & could come to camp ready to mesh well with Fitz. Being local would also allow our staff to get him in really good shape. I think that's McNabb's biggest problem right now. If McNabb doesn't STAND OUT in camp, it's Skelton's job. If for some miraculous reason, Luck is still there (he won't be), you HAVE to take him. If not, draft defense early. In reality, our D sucks!!!

I like your optimisim Stout. I am cautiously optimistic myself, if we have a shot at Luck I don't pass him up but I think we don't have to reach for someone like Mallett or Newton now.

The kid sure does look good in the pocket but he needs to do something about his accuracy...hopefully that is a problem that can be fixed.

We could not move the ball most of the night.

It would help to have some WR/TEs that could catch the ball on a regular basis. Not to mention that playcalling might be the worst in the league (We pass 2 out of 3 times no matter the situation).

He has his faults but I can't put all the blame (or even a simple majority) of our offensive woes on him.

Do I still want competition for him? Yup
Do I want to or think we should draft a QB in round 1? Nope

While I agree somewhat, Newton would be a better back up then anything we can pick up via free agency.
I love me some Skelton, but I want options. Luck or Newton (I really want Newton here, even if Skelton is the man, either one is great trade meat)

We shouldn't spend a high first round pick on a back up. If we want a back up QB we can get one in round 3 or later(which I would like).

You don't draft a QB in round 1 especially in the top 10 for competition. You draft them because you think they are the guy.

Newton scares the crap out of me.

Sounds a lot like the chatter after McCown became the starter. Big arm, runs, heart, doesn't turn it over but doesn't light up the stat sheet. He could be the guy, but the Cards got to get a proven vet to take the reigns next year. You need at least two options. He will get his chance but hopefully he starts as #2 next year.

Stout. EASY......

I like Johnny Boy. A lot! But I'm just not ready to hand him the keys without hesitation. Even with what you said the plan should be. I want him with a chance to win it, but he has left way too many throws on the table since he took over for my tastes.

As wonderful as that last drive was, you can't throw out the awful third quarter he had. That said, he looks the part and you gotta love a QB making clutch throws like that. Thing is, we could've put that game away a lot earlier.
