I'll be the first to say it: Skelton IS our QBOF

Stout. EASY......

I like Johnny Boy. A lot! But I'm just not ready to hand him the keys without hesitation. Even with what you said the plan should be. I want him with a chance to win it, but he has left way too many throws on the table since he took over for my tastes.

He's a fifth round rookie playing in his 3rd start. He's not going to be able to make all the throws, hell Sam Bradford can't do it either. The poise and the clutch factor makes me believe he might be the one!!!

As wonderful as that last drive was, you can't throw out the awful third quarter he had. That said, he looks the part and you gotta love a QB making clutch throws like that. Thing is, we could've put that game away a lot earlier.

He's not completely excused just like Bradford isn't excused for having 0 TDs and 5 INTs in the last 3 games. Some of the things he needs to continue to work on but a lot of it is being a rookie. He makes mistakes. You see if he learns and continues to develop.

I think people have the bar set so high for a rookie starting on a horrid team that no one could live up to it.

Bring in a veteran that can legitimately start in the NFL and have a competition with Skelton beginning as the starter (so the vet has to clearly out play him to win the job).

Cut Anderson and cut Hall. Draft a third stringer or go with Bartel.

Sounds a lot like the chatter after McCown became the starter. Big arm, runs, heart, doesn't turn it over but doesn't light up the stat sheet. He could be the guy, but the Cards got to get a proven vet to take the reigns next year. You need at least two options. He will get his chance but hopefully he starts as #2 next year.
Yeah, I'd say the story could swing in this direction pretty easy.
He's had 3 starts. 2 home, one away.
Missed plenty of opportunities, but has made some "gut check" plays, which is nice.
Doesn't the old adage say something about 3-4 games to get a new person figured out? We're on that threshold, let's see if he elevates his game.

Yeah, that seems like the best option, but if they have a shot at a rookie QB they feel can be a total game changer they have to pull the trigger. Rather have a promising 2nd year, a stable vet and a hot prospect and make tough decisions then the alternative.

I agree. Hall and Anderson have no business on the team next season for obvious reasons. I dont know enough about Bartel to say keep or dump him, except his respectable performance in preseason against us when he was with the Redskins. I guess if he is the #3, it honestly doesnt matter.

Skelton has me sold as our back up next season. Itll take a very impressive showing in OTAs, mini camp, TC and preseason for me to be sold on him as our 2011 (or 2012 pending lockout) starter. This is why an impact FA is necessary. I honestly doubt we draft QB round one. IMO, this team goes o line or OLB.

Im glad Skelton finally got a TD pass today. Now he needs to be more consistent and stop locking onto receivers and stop throwing to tight ends who couldnt catch a cold in the middle of winter.

He certainly has all of the physical and mental tools to be a starter in this league. He just needs to hone it all in.

agreed with most of the above. I don't think Skelton's proved that he's our QB of the future, but there's no doubt he should at worst be our back-up QB next year. I think he still needs another year of seasoning before we bet the season on him, but I like his pocket presence/awareness and he was just clutch on that last drive, on national TV in front of a big audience after having sucked the majority of the game.

I flat love his pocket presense. I don't remember a Card qb with that much awareness in a long time. It does appear that some of his short passes are thrown too hard but if Ware was chasing me I would probably throw it too hard also.

I thought this last game and this game gave me more reason to believe that the Cards are not utilizing his abilities to the best. Unless they are going to try to run the ball more, they need to make the game more vertical by running deeper patterns. He seems to perform better when allowed to throw the ball deeper, but this will involve keeping more protection around him. Oh well. He is now the winningist qp from Fordham and second behind Bradford for the most victories this year by a rookie.

Come on guys. Let's not get drunk off this game. We've scored exactly 1 passing touchdown in the last 3 games!! The kid is mediocre at best right now. Can he develop? Sure, but he needs to get up to NFL speed in his decision making. He is very slow in his mechanics and for some reason he is not seeing the field very well. (fitz only 1 catch) I will pray like hell that we don't get suckered into thinking we don't need to draft a QB.

Everyone keeps talking about bringing in some vet to compete... like who? Don't tell me Orton who absolutely stinks. Don't tell me McNabb who isn't coming here. Tell me who out there is worth pursuing that won't cost us a pick that we desperately need since we have a ton of holes.

I'm on the bandwagon! The foutrth quarter drive was brillant. More dropped passes. Didn't like the play calling shoulds have seen more of Beanie as he was moving the ball pretty well. We have a 6'6 245 pound QB with lots of moxie.
I'm with the go get us a vet to fight for the job and the tie goaes to JK.

Orton on this team and we are a 9 win team. He isn't a superstar by any means but he is a mid-level solid veteran QB--he hardly stinks, last 19 games--41 TDs 21 Ints, 7+ yards per attempt, 60% and over 7000 yards and a Qb rating of 87 says he doesn't stink. I wouldn't trade a pick for him but if he is cut I wouldn't mind signing him...same goes for Palmer (who I think would thrive in Whisenhunts offense). If they both stay with their teams I don't know who would be a good option because I sure don't want McNabb or Bulger or Hasselbeck.

I wish Skelton had gotten a shot to be the man back when Hall started against the Saints. Really? An UDFA over a 5th round pick?

I think we'd have done better and not had the huge losing streak and Skelton would be that much further along.

Skelton still a project and we need to address the QB position in offseason. Sign a vet and hope Skelton develops over the next year.

I don't hand him the keys next year. He isn't ready.

Don't insult Skelton.

He actually HAS the tools. McCown did not. I never understood the infatuation with Josh...other than him being a good guy. Skelton shows a hell of a lot better than Josh. Doesn't mean he's the guy, but I'm comfortable with him running the ship next season and improving our team in other areas in the first round, rather than reaching for Mallet (DA 2.0) or Newton (Big Ceiling, Bill Cellar) in the first round.

Uh, we saw him recently vs our D.

19-of-41, 166-yards with three interceptions.

Are you saying THAT doesn't suck?

Heck, a Denver fan called in on the postgame and said Orton sucks. :D

I am down with Skelton.

He shows more in busted plays than the haters on this board give him credit.

For example: Play in the third quarter - Skelton was flushed, being chased. You can see him recognize the pressure, adjust, and throw a pass that only a Card could catch, or it would be an incomplete. Many QB's in this league would have been sacked in that exact situation.

Every QB has sucky games. You pick one and I can find a shiddy game. But he is not an overall bad QB. No way no how.

Or for rookies panic and throw a INT.

Like him, but I'm not sold. Not even close. Sign a vet (Bulger or Hasslebeck), draft a first round QB, and keep Skelton in the mix, and see who floats to the surface.

For the umpteenth time - You don't draft a QB in the first round especially in the top 10 for competition. You draft a Qb that early to be the guy, no questions asked

This guy is for real. With a full offseason as the starter, a full training camp as a starter, we will start to solidify our starting QB position for years to come.

Sign a vet backup, draft a #3, and roll with Skelton. That's right. Do it.
It would be sweet if you were right. I just like this kid so far and would really like to see him succeed.
