The one thing that really stands out, the Suns PFs (Warrick/Clark/Lawal) do not look like a physical bunch that can play against a strong PF.

As opposed to last year when we had a PF who looked 'physical' but wasn't - except that he could take a hit and still put up a good shot.

Actually, Lawal is said to be quite physical and the few clips I saw bore that out, at least when going for rebounds - naturally, there was nothing on YouTube showing him on defense. He is not quite as big as you'd like at PF - of course, if he were a full sized PF, we'd not have gotten him at #46.

i agree.

he appears to have added a degree of discipline to the high energy play that makes him an extremely productive rebounder, even playing next to a jumping jack in Derrick Favors. ​

His 8.5 rpg last season was considered especitally impressive when one consideres he played tieh an elite lottery pick.

While Lawal’s minutes and touches have decreased marginally next to the lottery-bound Favors, he’s shown development in some areas and will still have an opportunity to hear his name called in the first round this summer.​

Scores a lot of baskets on put backs... He has a strong frame and an NBA body, and plays physical on both sides of the ball ... Does a good job at drawing contact and getting to the line, and he runs the floor well for his size, making it a habit of beating his man down the floor ... Defensively his physical play and long wingspan help him contest shots, contributing to his effectiveness defending the post ...

Strengths: Lawal is a relentless player in the post with great potential ... He is a big time athlete with combination of a great body, huge wingspan (7’0’’) and excellent motor ... Offensively, his game is based on his strength under the basket with putbacks, rebounds and hook shoots (shows solid touch with his right hand) and he does a great job at holding down his position ... Defensively, Lawal does excellent job at holding down his position on the post and using his body ... Everyone reports he is very raw offensively, but some also point out that Georgia Tech had awful guards and that he was playing along with Favors.

For people looking for an immediate impact player, I'd guess they will be disappointed. But he could be more than a routine player in a few years.

If Lawal can defend in the NBA the way George's last quote described, he will probably get a fair amount of floor time this year. Wouldn't it be sweet to have someone like that next to a healthy Lopez. Duncan and Gasol are probably just too big for him to handle but there aren't that many PFs with that size advantage. Dallas, no; Houston, no; Portland, no; Denver, no; Okla, not that I can think of; NO, no; Utah, no. I'm not so familiar with the EC.

I understand your hopes for Lawal. I have those too. However, he was only a second round draft pick and no one knows if he can even develop into a NBA player. The Suns are desperate if they are placing their hopes on a second round draft pick at PF. I even have hopes for Dwayne Collins who has a better build for a PF but that is not saying much.

Nash/Hill/Childress to NYK for Felton/Curry

We get a decent starting PG (second tier) and Curry's deal expires at the end of the season. Add in the end of the year buyout of VC's contract and we'd have like $30 million in cap space, or something like that, because we would get rid of Childress's TERRIBLE contract and Pietrus expires as well.

NYK improves at PG and gets DEEP in both the backcourt and on the wing. We buy a MAJOR opportunity for Nash and Hill to get a ring (and Stoudemire as well).

We're left with about $22 million in contracts next year with a starting PG (Felton), a starting SF (Dudley), and a starting C (Gortat) in place along with a bench of Dragic, Frye, Warrick and Lopez. All that cap space allows us to sign two major starters and another bench producer along with having a high draft pick. But, the problem is that I don't know what the FA market has on hand this year....

All that needs to happen for Nash and Hill to be traded is for them to verbalize their desire to do so. This would knock Sarver out of his fantasy world and he would have to oblige coming from two of the most respected players in the NBA.
