Fitz has got to be pleased that we have someone that can get him the ball down field. Now we just need an O line

Hoyer and Stanton pretty much serve the same purpose. They need to decide who they want to keep between the two and cut or trade the other. I would still like to see them draft a mid round QB as the #3, unless Lindley was good enough to beat them out for the 3 spot.

Great trade.

Got a better QB than Kolb, didn't have to give up a 2nd rounder and a pro-bowler to get him

For clarity

Cards get CP and a 2014 7th round pick for a 2013 6th rounder and a conditional 2014 7th rounder?

They sign CP for 2 years at $16m with $4m in incentives with $10m guaranteed?

Is that correct?

If so very good job GMSK

Cards get CP and a 2013 7th rounder (#219) for 2013 6th rounder (#166) and a conditional 2014 7th rounder.

Nicely done deal. Gives Cards fans a legitimate reason to come out, but really hurts my dynasty league acquisition of Palmer. :bang:

Brian Hoyer is probably on the trade block. It's possible that we'll trade him for a conditional 2014 pick to whatever team can't get one of the top 8 QB prospects in this draft. He's on the books for about $1M more than Stanton is, and neither are going to get reps as a #3 QB. I'm fine with kicking the tires on Lindley into training camp if Landry Jones or someone else doesn't fall to us in the 5th round or later.

Very good trade for the Cards! Impressive indeed! Now, if they can trade Hoyer and dump Lindley the entire stench of the QB sewage from last season will be gone.

Things are looking up in Cardinal town.

It's a straight up upgrade at a position we've been hurting at for awhile. If Carson actually puts his heart into the team, and if this team can muster up even a semi non pathetic O-line (say, not the worst in the League), then our offense is in business. Am I the only one starting to worry about our defense more than our offense this year? :p

Good deal for the Cardinals, and uses up that money they were sitting on. Now, on to the draft.
+1

Love the contract. Again, another manageable contract. Good stuff.
Good move by the FO for getting it done quickly, at a good price, short term contract and gave up very little.

NOW WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH THIS !?!

But, in all seriousness. I feel like this is Kevin Kolb part II.

Carson Palmer is better then Kevin Kolb no doubt.

The similar feeling is that the move is certainly not "great", but more of a situation where it "needed to be done".

Anyway, I think it is a good move, but I am cautiously optimistic. Last time I thought a QB was good for a system he got sacked twice in the endzone in consecutive offensive plays.

We will see, but Palmer's got my support and hope.

Finally, somewhat of a concession-----grudgingly done, but still a concession. Keim, Licht, and Arians have done what they said they would do, and they did it together and with singular purpose just as they said they would. They have set us up to take advantage of the draft, (deep in OL, Pass Rushers, Safeties).

Right now, (with the exception of Safety), we are well ahead of where we were last year, (and at a better cost to the team). Nearly all the FA acquisitions are better than the players they replaced, and we are set to take advantage of a draft deep in OL, Pass Rush, S). We are far and away ahead at QB, (better than at any time since Warner retired), with Palmer, Stanton, Hoyer, and Lindley. Heck, with the tutoring of this staff, we just might even see a resurgence in Palmer's confidence and his interest in competing at a high level. We are still in position to trade Hoyer for an additional draft pick if the right call comes. Meanwhile they can work on grooming Stanton to become a starter, and are still capable of beginning a search next year for a QBOF without breaking the bank. We have a bridge to the future in place.

This team is more than likely going to be reasonably competitive in the NFL, and may even steal a game or two from the NFC West favorites. They almost certainly will be more fun to watch than last year's version.

C'mon K-9, have just a little sip of the coolade. This management team just might not be nearly so bad as you suspected they would be.

Zing! This year just got more interesting. I second EVERYONE who says this is what a competent FO looks like.

I call BS on not drafting a QB this year. I believe Keim when he says he went to school of drafting a QB a year.

If you believe Lindley sucks (which I do) and Hoyer is essentially Drew Stanton (Which I also do) then it makes sense to spend a 3rd-5th on a young guy to develop.

My guess? Matt Scott or Tyler Wilson in 3rd. Maybe Glennon if he falls.

So does this leave you all with 5 QBs?

Palmer - unquestioned starter
Stanton - coaches guy - presumed backup unless he loses it
Hoyer - recently optioned
Skelton - other FOs project
Lindley - other FOs project

Would Lindley have any PS eligibility left?

If not, I can only see a team keeping 3 guys active and bringing 4 through the heart of camp

Do you dump skelton & lindley and let hoyer battle it out with a rookie for the #3 spot ... or do you continue to try and see if either of S&L can develop as a #3?

I think getting Palmer is a definite upgrade and puts a little bit of time on the "find his replacement" clock ..... but he's getting older and the hits are adding up, the backup QB will play a bit this year and that clock is definitely ticking

John Skelton was released last night in anticipation of the deal and because offseason work started today.

Just want to add my congratulations to Steve and his staff for a great job. No one knows for sure how well he'll do this season, but he fits the BA QB Job Description, "Big guy who can get the ball down the field". Now we have to decide if the two tackles that we finished last year with are the real deal. And if they are, coupled with the return of Levi, we should be better at OT and can go OG in the first round. Maybe even able to trade down and get Warmack or Cooper. Also, I'm still hoping that we can trade Hoyer to Pitt as a backup to Ben R. They were reportedly interested in having him play behind Roethlisberger.

I like the trade, I wanted Palmer when he left Cinci. If they like someone like Wilson or Glennon in the draft, trade Hoyer to Pitt for a 6th or 7th and take them. OL, Pass Rusher, and FS in the draft.

thanks - I was scanning to find a corresponding move, but didn't see it

no big loss in that one and it makes sense as far as the room as skelton sounded entitled when he won the job and bitter when he lost it..... don't think it would have played well being the one to break it to him that he's now competing for 3rd string .... let another team teach that lesson
