this is for cheesy. 4 years in the league my ass. i told you. and he's no roadgrader. he was drafted as a pass-catching te out of byu. so he's an older pass catching te that only hauled in 23 passes last year. FEEECH (i'm getting too used to throwing that out this offseason).

i'm not panicking, i'm just severely disappointed with both our lack of aggressiveness AND the mediocrity being paraded in front of us masquerading as a "BIG SPLASH."

Big Splash??....What did you not understand about it when DG said they were not going to give to big a piece of pie to name FA. I understood it. They were going to look at the 400+ FA and spread the pie around to some of the ones that would not ask for a big piece of pie. I think we will end up signing 4 or 5 that fill needs. Not one maurqee guy that takes up 3 pieces of the pie. I think DG was obvious when he said this a couple of weeks ago. A big splash would mean to announce all of the pie is gone and went to several differant guys.

come on .. there is more than enough cap room to sign a high priced guy and then some mid tier players. of course we can't sign everybody but they can do better than a special teams player and a 30 something FS..

i honestly didn't think we'd sign one of the marquee guys, rats. but i did think we'd pursue quality fa's. thus far we're bringing in guys that are backups, retreads, or over the hill. no collection of those will amount to a "BIG SPLASH."

hell, give me an anthony becht, a vincent, and one of the corners and i'd be happy.

He has been in this league 7 years and is 32 years old. My guess is that he was on a mission or something (BYU) for a couple or years and that is why he didn't start playing until he was 25 years old.

My take on Mili, a good all around TE but not great in any one area. I think he would be a decent pickup.

Again...the "high priced guy" has to want to come here. I wanted Lucas...but I would not want to overpay for a guy like him.

Yeah but its only his 8th year...I think he may have gone on a mormon mission or something b/c if I did the math correctly he did enter the NFL until he was - what - 25?

he did the whole mission thing and entered the league with pretty much shredded knees ... hte reason why he dropped so far in that draft

he is a very reliable, consistent TE looking to get paid too much $$$$

I have no ill will toward the guy, he has a couple more really productive years left in him (if used in a system that wants to use him)

the hawks really went away from him last year for some unknown reason

Then we get, "a couple more really productive years", out of him.

Thats two better years then we would be getting out of Edwards, who some on this board think way to highly of.

And we take those two good years away from a competitor.

many of you are waaay too quick to hand out superlatives. "REALLY productive???" i don't see that. marginally productive maybe. he had 23 catches last year and he's not a great blocker. and i'm no fan of edwards either.

That superlative came straight from a Hawks fan who has watched him play more times then any of us.

As for the 23 catches, try looking at in context, before spouting off like its gospel or something, The Hawks started to slowly hand over the reins to Stevens, becuase they knew Mili would be gone next year. By the Way Stevens couldnt beat out Mili for the starting job like they planned for 3 straight years.

You want to spout of Catching stats how about the guy you brought up that you want, Becht, who caught only 13 passes at 7.7 YPC, while Mili had 10.4 YPC.

Becht is a superior run blocking TE - that's why Ouchie wants him.

so you're quoting some unnamed, unknown source. good source.

and i'm touting becht for what he is . . . an excellent run blocker with some good goalline receiving ability. i don't want anything more from him. but mili is a receiver-first-slightly-adequate-blocker who only caught 23 passes (and just why was stevens drafted in the first place . . . b/c mili wasn't the complete package to begin with). i spouted receptions b/c it is pertinent to a receiver-first te like mili, those stats are less important for a run-block-first te like becht. context man, context.

things to consider on mili

although he has age, he really didn't play his first 3 years in the league (where he only caught 6 balls, rehabbing from injuries and working up the depth chart)

he was always stuck behind fauria as the #2 TE for the hawks as well .. then they drafted jerramy stevens to take over as the #1 and let fauria go

mili had other thoughts .. he earned the #1 job (in part to stevens getting banged up) and caught 43 balls then he caught 46 balls

entering the final year of his deal, he was looking to get extended, paid and secured into the TE rotation .... figuring how stevens really hasn't shown he thought he could hold out

the seahawks pretty much told him to pound sand, named stevens the #1 TE and put mili on the bench

as the season progressed mili started getting more play .. but his #s last year were hit hard because of lack of opportunity

he has sure hands, can stretch the field more than some TEs, is a hard worker .... he isn't a devastating blocker, but I don't recall his blocking hurting the team in any instance either

the hawks feel comfortable with the 2 other TEs on the roster and although they'd like to keep mili, they're not going to pay him what a team with a less comfortable TE situation will

he can come in to the right situation catch 40-50 passes, be sure handed over the middle and provide solid blocking

he can probably do this for a couple seasons before tailing off

not a bad deal for the right price (which seems to always be the key)

Unnamed and unnkown, take a look at post #11.

He must be making it up, becuase it would be so funny.

As for good goalline recieving ability, Becht had one TD last year, if thats enough for you, so be it.

Stevens was drafted to beat out Mili but couldnt do it for 3 straight years, even with his so called complete package abilities.

I don't feel any panic at all really.

No dissapointment, zip, zero, zilch, nada.

Now if we wheel into the season without spending most of our $ on someone then maybe I'll be irked, not terribly sad but irked.

I think for all intents and purposes FA is way way overated. We did spectacular last year in comparison to 95% of the other teams. We waited and waited for that and then were only somewhat placated only to find out much later that we actually did extremely well in comparison to other teams.

FA done like the Patriots is the way to go and remember that no one ever got terribly excited about the players that they accumulated as a whole, however in their system they did very well.

I believe that is what will happen, mostly because whatever else Green is he isn't a bad talent evaluator at all. He has a plan for who he wants and he excells at finding players to fit it.

We will be fine, better than fine actually so relax.
